Returned one package and got a new one...same problem. Any suggestions from PS 3 users?
I have both plugged the mic into the PS3 directly and also tried plugging it in to the wireless box from Rock Band.
Thanks for the help

You do have a PS3 controller turned on to control the vocalist character options, right?

I played Rockband (original) all last night with no problems. I put in Rockband 2 for the first time this morning it updated immediately, sang 1 song and then the microphone wouldn't work, I thought it broke so I went and bought another cordless mic this afternoon and it won't work either. There is no pitch indicator present - the game recognizes the mic it just doesn't hear me, the mics are both dead. Someone please help!!! I have been through all the settings that I can find and they all seem to be ok and as I said I played all last night with no issues and didn't change anything except I put in Rockband 2.:confused:

I'm having the same problem, but on the Wii. I hope someone has an answer!

I'll try to help (though there's some weird discussion of "wireless" stuff above...)
The most common problem when you're unable to get a microphone to connect is not having a GAME controller sync'd as well. So for the Wii/PS3, you need to have a normal game controller connected as well as the microphone. (This lets you steer in the menus, etc, in addition to singing.)
As for the problem Kahula's having...our game doesn't currently support any cordless mics that I'm aware of. It does support most USB microphones...not sure what kind of mic you're trying to use.
Also sdgully, do you mean USB Hub when you say wireless box? That needs to be plugged into the console in order to connect the mic.
Hope that helps!
Yours,

Tried your suggestions, but still no change John. Here are the problems:
The pitch indicator has disappeared.
The mic doesn't register "tapping".
It does recognize singing, but seems to randomly rank singing. If we don't sing at all, it still ranks.
Platform is Wii.
Brand new.
Using Rockband (not Rockband 2).
Problem with two disks, including Track Pack I.
HELP!!!

Sorry should have been more clear, I am using:
PS3 80GB
Was originally using the mic that came with RockBand and once I put in RB2 and an updated loaded it only worked for 2 more songs.
Went to the store and bought an Icon Wireless mic, according to the box it works with Rockband on all supported platforms (PS 2/3 XBox 360) and it does the exact same thing as the original Mic.
I am using the controller I have been playing RB for months, I have been through all the settings to confirm nothing changed, I have done all the things people have suggested throughout this forum and nothing will bring the pitch indicator back.
I did finally get through to Phone support and they were excellent and more than willing to send me a new mic, but I find it kind of weird that soo many people are having these issues since RB2 but that is just a gut instinct.

We are having the same issue. Got Rock Band for Wii: there is no pitch indicator, microphone does not recognize tapping, and it also seems to rank singing even though I am not singing at all...what do I do?

I'm having the same issue, the mic is not recognizing any sound, but the game keeps playing as if someone was singing.

I have this same issue. I just bought the RB2 bundle last night and hooked it up to my PS3.
everything is recognized, except the Mic. Mic is connected directly to the PS3 USB port.
Yes, I have the controller on and selected the Mic, but when I do, it pops up and tells me to connect the Mic and does not recognize Mic, etc. Then it would not let me move on to play in Band Mode.
Frurstrating to say the least.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

For any PS3 users encountering this problem, the fix I found was to unplug my playstation eye. Seems like if you have that plugged it the PS3 decides to make it the default mic. Hope this helps:D

This might be your problem. Unplug ALL USB sound input devices (singstar microphones, playstation eye, etc) AND disconnect your Bluetooth headsets.
Also, check your sound input/output settings in the PS3 menu to make sure that the Rock Band mic is selected.
Not quite sure if this will work, but try anyways.

This is getting ridiculous. Had the problem with the original mic, went and bought a new one, a week later, same things happens. I have no other devices connected either and yet...
Pitch indicator disappears
Doesn't recoginize singing or tapping
Randomly ranks as if you are singing
Called Logitech and was told they haven't heard of this being a problem with their mics. The second one I bought was a more expensive model, supposed to be of better quality than the original mic that comes with the game. Sending a new one, but I'm pretty sure it will happen again. Nobody seems to really believe this is a problem. It's beyond frustrating.

have a problem,
bought PS3 and Rock Band 2 at same time mid December.
everything worked fine for half month played well no problems.
have friends with PS3, Rock Band, then Rock Band 2.
their Rock Band 2 microphone stopped working after a few plays and they bought up to 3 new microphones, currently on their fourth
last week we brought our fully functioning microphone to their house to use on their system and it would not register, we plugged it in, with the controller and everything as directed and as we've done countless times before and the PS3 would not recognize the presence of our microphone,
Methinks it is possible some issue with the drivers? for Rock Band 1 incompatible with Rock Band2? Not familiar with the logistics there but my guess would be something with the software from the original Rock Band interfering with the new Rock Band??
Does anyone know what could cause this....
Any help/insight is appreciated.
Please Note:
I know how to use this system and play this game, I don't need to know the simple controller setups - I'm past that, i've read the manual, nothing works.

*****UPDATE***** I THOUGHT I FOUND THE FIX THEN I DIDN'T*****
I thought I found the fix and I was stoked! I used the technique that I say below and it worked for about 4 hours of Rocking Out then half way through the last song of the night it stopped and I haven't been able to get it back again. It continues to show up in the game but doesn't capture any vocals. When I access the PS3 menu and go to the Accessories Options menu to check on the audio input settings I can choose between a Logictech USB mic or nothing. If I unplug the mic then it removes the Logitech USB option. When I plug it back in I hear a pop in the speakers like it was turning on then I see the option to use the USB mic again.
I had my brother bring a Rock Band 1 mic and we plugged it and everything worked just fine. I have concluded that it is officially a crap mic. I hope that is all it is too. I am leaving my other posts in this post so you can see my thoughts and struggles with this issue.
-----------------------------------------------------
I was getting all sorts of frustrated with this issue and then I had an idea. People have touched on it so I gave it a try. Come to find out I was using the controller that was assigned the #2 spot. I only had 1 controller turned on and then each of the instrument transmitters and the mic plugged in. On a whim I reassigned my controller to be the #1 position and BAM! My mic was now functioning properly. I think it is ridiculous that I have to make sure to only have the #1 controller as the mic controller. If I had 4 controllers then I would most likely have to reassign every time I ran the game because all the controllers look identical until you turn them on and see which one is assign the number you are looking for.
So in summary, if you are using the mic make sure that the controller you use to make your selections is the #1 controller. I think this may fix a lot of the problems with the mic not working from one day to the next like mine did. I hope this helps more than just me. Good luck.
I am leaving my original post so you can see what my issue was and my thoughts before I found the fix.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was using the mic just fine until yesterday. I am using RB2 on the 80GB PS3 with 4 USB ports. I found that the microphone was a little particular about which USB port I plugged it into. I found that if I connected it inline with the USB Guitar transmitter/hub then it would work until yesterday.
Now it seems to 'recognize' the mic with 'hearing' it. What I mean is that the game is aware of the fact that I have the mic connected and if I disconnect in the middle of the song it gives me the warning message. So I then reconnect it and it lets me continue. The problem is that it will not pick up a single sound. I have a feeling it is more of a software issue than a hardware problem so far.
I don't have any extra controllers or the Eye or any additional peripherals connected. I have the current PS3 firmware update. I just wanted to share my experience so that Harmonix can understand that there seems to be a glitch somewhere in the system because we all seem to be experiencing something weird.
That being said, does anyone know of a way to reset the 'core' PS3 settings to maybe even reset the USB/controller cache/memory? I wonder if flushing the history of the connected devices would help but I have no idea if that is even possible. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am having the same mic issues and so is my daughter. I have PS3 she has a brand new xbox. It states a mic could not be found. I have tried different ports and configurations, still nothing. I tested the mic(s) on a PC, they worked fine. Both systems worked fine for about 3 weeks then they both started having these problems, almost at the same time.

I am having the same issue. Everything worked prior to the PS3 update 2.60. After that update, no MIC and I also had to re-calibrate. MIC Does not work in game or as a normal Audio Accessory. Used RB2 SE used less than 3 times.

I'm curious if any PS3 owners can time the MIC failure to the same time of the latest PS# update 2.60. That is clearly when I started having issues.

I can add to that - Yes, I only started having Mic problems when I updated to the recent system and game upgrades.

Same here. I had no problems with the mic before that last update.
At first I thought I simply fried my RB2 mic since I shocked the cuhrap out of my lip with it on Tuesday. It still worked after that for a few sets; however, the next time I started up my PS3 it would no longer give the pitch indicator, etc. So I dragged out my RB 360 mic and used it on Weds with no problems - until today. Now this one suddenly isn't working either (with no shocking involved). No pitch indicator, but it still partially scores even if I sing nothing. Tapping no longer registers as well.
I really don't want to go through the trouble of returns or purchasing a new one if this is more tied to the update.

Same issue here. Detects the mic, but nothing registers and the pitch arrow is missing.
Just started last night and was working fine for 5 months. Firmware issue??

I am having the same exact problem:
Pitch indicator disappears
Doesn't recognize singing or tapping
Randomly ranks as if you are singing
It worked for a month and a half. I did have the PS3 randomly redo the setup (asked if I wanted to HDMI even though it was already set up to do that). Maybe that has something to do with it?
Anyone have a fix for this yet?

Same problem also. I called EA and Sony. Both companies don't know what the problem is.
Could be a firmware issue or a mic issue.
Don't want to buy a new mic and find out I'm having the same problem. I've read other people had this happen.
Anyone hear of a solution?
