View Full Version : Signs that RB2 > GHWT

bonerock

Sign 1. Younger nieces and nephew who have no bias towards one or another and would otherwise prefer GH because its new and all over TV got bored with GH and complained about graphics.

Sign 2. GH was set up on a 52" HD TV and RB was downstairs on a tiny 20" and everyone still wanted to play rock band.

Sign 3. Aunt walks into the room, looks at the TV and says " I thought they bought it for Playstation 3 not playstation 2" (due to the animations and charts)

That's pretty funny with your Aunt saying that. I think GH3 was more visually appealing than GH:WT.

Pretty funny list there. Here's what I think: Harmonix made the better game, but GH:WT isn't necessarily a bad game. I just think that there's a bit too much going on at once in GH:WT. The only thing is Red Octane makes better plastic guitars than Harmonix.

This is an opinion as I like the non clicky Rock Band 2 guitars much better than Guitar Hero I II ir III's controllers. I've never played GHWT's controllers so I can't compare, but Rock Bands are better than the older ones...

GH:WT isn't bad. My brothers all prefer it over RB, but that's mostly because they don't have the DLC library built up and they're all addicted to classic rock.

Anyway, after a Winter Break full of GH:WT, I feel that it didn't bust out a completely new thing, nor Rock Band's butt, but did introduce a couple things that should definitely be ripped off for RB3:

-Sustain Notes w/Built Cords. I.E. holding Green then strumming again for other notes. VERY cool. The chart for Float On in GH:WT does feel much more natural than the RB chart.

-Band Streak Bonus. This really separates scores on their leaderboards, not that that matters here, but adding the mechanic to RB's Battle of the Bands would really spice some of them up.

-Sustains in Drum Charts. These work a little better than rolls, and though they don't work for all songs (Everlong would be stupid as a big long chart of sustains) it does for other songs (Those annoying fades on cymbals at the end of songs like Won't Get Fooled Again)

Otherwise, I have to say that RB still wins for me. The Library + Customization (Notice how all GH:WT Characters look the same?) and the focus on the player's Band over the bands they're imitating. Not to mention the RB vocal system is so much easier to understand than GH:WT's. Honestly, it's every single note bar counts? Really? that's friggin' nuts!

I think Activision needs to come up with their own ideas. I don't think anyone here can deny the fact that they copied Rock Band for GH:WT.

Don't get me wrong: GH:WT is fun, but Rock Band did it better.

And GH's graphics still suck. At least that ugly-ass singer from GH3 is gone.

When we wanted a Wii, my Mom was like

"You have a Game.. what's that called?"
"GameCube."
"You have a GameCube, what's so different between it and the Wii?"
"You're kidding right?"

I love my Dad.

OH YEAH, then I wanted Rock Band 2 when I had Rock Band. My Mom and Me:

"Why would you want to pay $50 for something you already have something similar to?"
"Rock Band 2 is incredibly improved: It has Online, Downloadable Songs, and more!!"
"I think you should save your money for something else."

I used to love the GH guitars until RB2 fixed their mushy strumbar.....I hated the clacky buttons on the RB guitar and now I like them because I saw how much further apart the buttons on the GH guitar are, allowing you to slide your fingers instead of lifting them up like the GH guitar makes you do. The RB2 guitar gives you all kinds of neat effects during overdrive also....I still own both but only use the new RB2 guitar.

I own both games and honestly, I can't pick a winner between the two. There are some things that World Tour does better at, and other things that Rock Band 2 does better at. I'm not taking set lists into account as I'm no music critic.

If you do the tour challenges in order, then you'll end up with all the songs. But just a tad off posting that here, don't you think?

GHWT's setlist is just bad in my opinion. There are probably less than 10 songs on that game I actually enjoy playing. Not to mention the graphics suck compared to Rock Band's, the characters in GHWT show pretty much no emotion when performing, unlike Rock Band which captures this amazingly. GHWT online play is horrible, the other player can pick easier difficulty levels than you and can even in Pro Face offs, and they can beat you just cause theyre on Easy and youre on Expert. And it doesnt even show you your note hit % at the end of the song! What is that?!

Rock Bands just better, its in my XBL bio, RB2=GH2=GH3>>>>>>>>>>>>GHWT, and I get messages from random people that I don't know, saying "I agree with you about your bio."

There are songs on GHWT that I would like to have on RB. And I bet if charted by HMX they would be perfect. As a side note I was at Best Buy on Wednesday and saw stacks of GHWT but only a few RB bundles.

My biggest complaint with World Tour was the vocals, with RB we have the thing fills up knowing when we're singing correctly (along with it saying awesome, strong, or weak, after ever phrase) with GHWT, you don't any of that, so it's kind of hard to know if you're doing good.

iNeedXBL
12-27-2008, 08:41 PM
Basically everywhere you go, there is like 100 GHWT bundles on display, etc. I only saw 3 bundles of RB1 and no RB2.

I have both. You know how much gamerscore I have on GHWT? 30. I have 600 gamerscore on RB2. Rock Band is just a better game. I got my 30 gamerscore from playing a song, FCing it and uploading a song onto GHtunes.

Not to mention that the ingame guitar's fretboard is so huge it looks like the guitarist is playing a freaking dulcimer.

lol i hang out around gamestop and best buy all the time, both are almost always out of stock when it comes to RB2, little easier to find RB1 over RB2, but no matter where you go, you'll always find at least a set up of at least 10 GH:WT's, game alone, game/guitar bundle, and whole band bundle, 10 of each!

i was at wal-mart the other day and they had 4 pallets out infront of the electronics section, 1 with RB1 bundle, 2nd with RB2 bundle, 3rd with GH:WT guitar/game bundle, and finally GH:WT band bundle

there were 4 RB1 bundles left, 1 RB2 bundle, estimate of 15 GH:WT guitar/game bundles, and estimate 20 GH:WT band bundles, there were so many, the game was on the floor instead of on the pallet that they would practically stack it up with RB2, some of the employees tried saying "why dont you get GH:WT instead of RB2?" lmao it's funny when they get *****ed out and a manager is called against them

all i hear though about GH being the better game is because of a better setlist "GH has jimi hendrix! that makes it the better game!" OH WOW! JIMI HENDRIX! whoopdie ****ing doo!!!! i don't give a crap about jimi hendrix and his music, i want **** like In This Moment, Tokio Hotel, Disturbed, All That Remains, Abnormality, Bang Camaro, and Dream Theater more than i'll ever want jimi hendrix, beatles, eagles, michael jackson, or any of that other crap

GH fails miserably on so many levels compared to RB, i played BYOB on expert bass at a setup they had at best buy, i got 98% on slightread, then i come home to play RB2, 94% expert bass, RB2 is much more challenging than GH will ever be

my g/f got GH:WT for christmas, she felt insulted, she played a few songs to make her aunt happy, she got so frustrated with how easy the game was, she returned it to wal-mart and got her aunt's money back which she's putting on a $50 PSN card and 2 $20 PSN cards so she can purchase up to $90 of DLC for RB

The only thing is Red Octane makes better plastic guitars than Harmonix.

They used to. Somewhere in the madness of them putting out another completely new guitar for World Tour, they completely ruined it. I would definitely put the new WT Guitar at the bottom of the list.

I like GH more than RB for these reasons:
1: The ho's / po's in GH are WAY better than RB's
2: The note detection in GH is a lot better than in RB
3: I like the carrer/campaign mode in GH a LOT more then RB's because you have to keep playing the same boring songs over again in each venue in RB

YouAreNotSpecial

I like GH's on-screen performances. You can't really get a sense of energy from the RB ones because of the low framerate. But other than that, I have plenty of complaints with GH:WT (which I recently bought and still love anyway, even if not as much as my RB2)

Vocals:
#1- No Effin mic sensitivity option! seriously WTF, its like if i move the mic more than 4 inches from my mouth then it doesnt catch it.
#2- you can't really tell if you're doing well, you just have to hope that you hit enough of the phrase
#3- Related to #1, no easy way to set off Star power w/ low mic sensitivity

Guitar:
#1- Its very hard to tell the difference between "Touch" notes, and regular ones

Other than that, the guitar parts definitely feel better and more fluid. They brought back the old HO/PO system though, so you have to be dead-on to get those.

Drums:
#1- Star Power mechanic of hitting both cymbals (using a RB drumkit its Yellow & blue at the same time) is completely flawed in-practice...it doesn't really account for the fact that you probably won't have any free space to activate it
#2- Im not sure if it wants me to be more precise on expert with my hits (more than RB), orrr if the drum pedal is really THAT unresponsive in the game.

Overall:
#1- The auto-calibrate is glitched...you go through the steps but it doesnt actually change anything.
#2- VERY FEW outfit options. They spend SOOO much time allowing you to customize the size of your character's jaw that they only end up having like 20 shirts
