SO i watched the tutorial already and I can pass a good amount of songs on medium. Though Metallica songs and others i have mucho trouble with. I know this probably can't be explained in a thread but I am hoping. How do you sing an octave below or above etc.. and tips besides keeping a steady voice and what not for passing songs?

It's hard to explain how to go up/down an octave to someone. If you are relatively familiar with music, or have been in choirs before where you learn songs, it sort of just comes to you. Honestly, I sing many songs entirely up the octave because I have a full octave range in the higher octave but lose some of the higher notes when singing in the lower octave (it's right where I have to switch from lower register to falsetto, if you are familiar with such things). If you really want to try and master it, learning the scales (Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do) will give you a good edge on mastering pitches that you aren't anticipating and switching between octaves, but it's something that comes more with practice and experience than with just being told how to do it.

As for tips on singing, it's more about knowing the song and practicing it if you haven't had any real singing experience. I can get songs I know even on expert, but I've been singing for over 11 years now and reading a staff is second nature to me. If the song has a long lead time before you sing, try humming or singing on 'la' at the beginning to get a feel for where notes are on the scale. It would also help to listen to the song a few times before singing it just to get an idea for how it is sung, where some of the tricky parts are, and a feel for what the real artist sounds like so you can try to emulate them. Really those are the easiest ways to master the songs because it's generally easier to emulate the artist than it would be to try and learn how to read a staff coming at some of those speeds.

Hope that helps.

Just practice singing in the car like I do. :D Or drumming for that matter.
