Good job Lions. But really I feel sorry for them. Maybe they'll actually get a few good drafts pick and win a few games next year. Eh...probably not.

Actually, '76 Bucs = Worst. Team. Ever. Shut out five/six times? Average 9 points a game? Expansion team or not, that's a team my high school team could defeat.

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving team.

Now to fire the entire coaching staff... only problem is that Rooney, that moron owner of the Steelers, is going to just about make sure the Lions hire a black coach (after they violated his league rule by hiring Mariucci years back), who will probably be Romeo Crennel (whom I already hate for ruining my Browns)...

what the HELL are you talking about.
you don't know anything about:
1. nfl rules
2. the steelers
3. life

the "rooney rule" (which he alone does NOT enforce, it is an nfl policy) mandates that organizations interview minority candidates when searching for coaching/management positions) it's intent was to break up the "old boys network" that was recycling the same crappy coaches over and over again. the rule does not say you have to hire anyone, genius.

The Rooney family has owned the Steelers for 70+ years, helping the city of Pittsburgh and conducting business in a classy and family-first manner, hence the THREE coaches over the last 30 years. The team has been consistently good for that time period, winning FIVE super bowls, and turning a profit, despite playing in one of the smaller markets in the nfl. now why exactly is he a moron?

The Browns hired Crennel because everything that touched the Patriots was considered gold, and they brought him in because they thought he could coach, as did the rest of the league, but they did not hire him because he was black. it is not all his fault that the Browns organization brings in garbage, no-character players like braylon "Can't catch the football" edwards or kellen "i'm a soldier" winslow

They always do, the problem was Matt Millen. He did things that no one could understand, almost seemed like he purposefully wanted to screw the team.

What's that? Win a few games? LOL! And feel bad for them? Why? See their taunting penalties?

One penalty at the end of a 0 - 16 season is not a big deal.

The Lions tried hard, but with the GM they had and the Owner, it's not the players fault nor is it the Coach's fault.

High fives all around!

But, now a serious question: was Matt Millen the guy that kept them from going 0-16 all these years?

No. He was the one that got them to 0 -16. This was his team this year, he formed it. He got rid of anyone that was apart of the old setup.

Lion fans can look at it like this, out of all the teams that are not in the playoffs (and those that don't win the Super Bowl), they are the only ones that will be remembered. Also probally be more remebered than this years Super Bowl Champs (unless the Steelers win their 6th).

I admit it, I lol'd.

Unfortunately for the Lions, it seems Ford is already keeping a couple executives. Sigh. That whole organization could use an overhaul. And what are they going to do with that #1 pick? At least Millen isn't around to blow it on a WR.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of ****
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...

Some people have suggested that the commissioner of the NFL should do the same thing with the Lions that David Stern did with the Knicks, and that is more or less force them to hire a competent executive. We shall see if that happens, but I doubt it.

And no, they probably won't waste the first overall pick on a WR this time... they'll waste it on a QB :)

I wonder if Mangini feels bad that he got fired the same day Marinelli got fired.

Actually, what I love most about Mangini is that two years ago his name was 'Mangenius' for beating Belichick. And also, the fact that had he gone to the playoffs, he'd still have a job! But, Miami beat him, and Favre took his job away! Go Dolphins, destroy that franchise, woo!

How about that reporter that asked Marinelli how it felt for his daughter to marry such a loser? Anyone catch that whole story

I'm sorry but I thought Marinelli was a good coach and was in no way at fault for what has occurred.

I blame Matt Millen and the owner... Ford.

Marinelli was an awful coach. Not nearly as bad as Morningweg or Mooch but still bad. I am a huge Lions fan. I have been since I was a small kid, but the Lions were unwatchable this year. Firing Marinelli was a great move but promoting the guysto GM and President was dumb. I would fire everyone except Kevin Smith and Calvin Johnson and try again later.

I was rooting for the lions. Sorry, I'm a Bear(lies) fan. I got to watch my team lose a game that would have gotten them in the playoffs yesterday! Maybe they'll soon get rid of Lovie Smith and get a less conservative coach and a quarterback...

The whole Detroit situation has been in the tank for a while. Update the O-Line and D-Line, and come back in 2 years. Please do not draft a Wide Receiver.

Then explain to me how he was a bad coach.

I really don't need to read your previous posts to tell you why he is a bad coach. There have been a lot of bad coaches in the history of the NFL and in the Lions for that matter, but not a single one has ever lost 16 games. He may be able to coach a veteren team with talent and leaders, but who the hell couldn't. The coaches job is to lead and motivate, and game plan. Marinelli can do none of this. He is by no means to blame for everything, but to call him a good coach is downright laughable.

The lines weren't a contending team before he came. When he came in, they had all the problems in the world, including Matt Millen. At no point in his tenor was the team his.

It was always Matt Millen's. Especially in the example of the draft last year.

I would never try to argue that Millen wasn't the biggest bafoon to ever have a GM's position in the NFL, but I would also never claim that Marnelli was a good coach. Unfortunately, Ford is on top of the list of problems with the Lions have and I don't think he is going away and when he does there is another Ford to take his place.
