The more i f' around with the drum in practice mode and see why the hits DONT register i came to this conclusion. The air gap that was intended to help calm vibrations and maybe make longevity is actually hurting us.

I can sit in practice mode (ive played drums for 22 years) and try and roll on ANY of the pads, more notably the red and yellow and only "soft" hits register, if i play harder maybe every 5th note will register. The moment i remove the airgap, by either taping it tight, or having someone else grasp the pad and squish it together it hit EVERY note. Not one missed. It seems the airgap doesnt fair well under harder play, play that MOST of us endure. Im going to test this out once i receive my new set of drums if they do the same thing.

They work flawlessly if i put pressure on the pads to remove that air space or lessen it. So all these people performing the "tape" trick were right about how it makes em work better.

i've been interested in trying out the tape trick cuz i've noticed too that the rolls are just damn impossible to hit right now..

did you tape the pads up like in the pictures posted?

The tape trick indeed works. Someone here posted a video of himself on Youtube playing ...And Justice For All on Expert. He held the high score for a good few days.

First thing I noticed was that he had tape going across the red drum like an X, and all the other pads were taped down on the sides as well. Now, this guy hit almost 99% on that song, so I can only imagine the tape helps.

That is definitely just a bad set of drums though because I bought 2 copies and 1 works as you describe and the other works flawlessly. Get them to replace the drums.

I have to disagree. My set works perfect, and I play pretty hard on it. Most likely just faulty sensor? Idk, but yea the tape fix seems to be a great idea for those with faulty drums.

Maybe that's why one of the hints on the loading screen says "for better results, trying playing louder!!" (or something like that). Maybe they intend to have you beat the living hell out of the drums to get 1 hit to register. I notice if I play softly, or even just normally, the beats wont register. I literally have to beat the crap out of the pads when I'm playing to get them to register. Under normal play, even keeping a simple beat will not register certain hits and cause you to lose your combo moves (and I know it's not just me, because I've been playing drums for 11 years).

i know that they are faulty, anything past medium and its impossible to get past the complicated parts with multiple hits. I "know" im playing the notes, they just wont register, and for my set, harder makes it worse.

If i tape just the sides, to compress that airgap some, they work flawlessly. So far duck tape has held the best, but im def getting a new set. Once they arrive i will test, test, and more test. Best way to test is in justice for all on practice looped on intro, you can bang away.

i just checked again ALL my drums work better when taped down to put some preload on them. BUT it shouldnt be this way.
