View Full Version : 360 Or Ps3

Hey there all....
I am torn between which to get Rockband for either the Xbox360 or PS3, I feel that perhaps it will be more native to the 360, and of course the 360 has a good online base, also I have heard that non native PS3 games have frame rate problems, though I would like to go with the PS3 as it has the HDMI inputs as my 360 does not (i dont have the elite 360)....are there thoughts on which platform you all would go with assuming you have both systems

Go with whichever system most of your friends have. The key is going to be having fun with the online bands, so you want to make sure you can buddy up with them.

If you're uncertain, even knowing the pros and cons of both, I would suggest waiting for thre reviews to actually come through.. there may be more pros and cons to help sway your decision by then.

I own both, but I will get it on 360 because people actually play on Xbox Live.

I would also honestly say 360, but the online is compatable so you can play cross platform.
I'm going with 360 version because of achievements and the better online and my friends etc. plus almost every if not every multi platform game so far thats been on 360 and ps3 has looked and performed better on 360. while I'm not sure this will be the case here I do think they will be identical.

the online is compatible so you can play cross platform.
Unfortunately, that is not true. Both Xbox Live and PSN are closed, proprietary, networks, and it would require cooperation between Sony and Microsoft to enable interoperability.

We've been touting that people around the world could play together. We have never said anything about cross-platform interoperability from what I remember.

Electric Zen had it right from the start. The game will be virtually identical on both systems, go with whichever system your friends have. If your friends have a mix choose the console that looks to have the best exclusives.
This is my plan, most my friends have (or will have) PS3's and as far as games go IMO the xbox has nothing PS3 doesn't (besides GTA IV exclusive episodic content damn them, lol)

Makes sense to buy the same console as all your mates, although I guess there will be plenty of online ppl on either platform. Also it wont matter what console you have for single player on if you are all in the same room :)
I'd go for the 360 and use the money you saved not buying a PS3 to buy Rock Band. But I'd defo buy a PS3 when they are a more reasonable price, if that happens. The XB360 hasnt really changed price much, as the PS3 is way more money and the PS2/Wii can't compete on specs/game support etc.

Yeah, I'm hangin out for the price drop, hoping it comes b4 GTAIV is released. I have considered what you said about buying the 360 and using spare money to buy RB but with LittleBig Planet, MGS 4, FFXIII etc coming out on PS3 I'd be being one eventually anyway... 'Tis a tough choice for those of us with little money (probably most of us, lol)
bounchfx

yeah, I agree nick, but the thing is that MGS4 and even perhaps FF13 will come to 360.. so I'm waiting till ps3 hits $300/400 and gets more must have titles (new God of war.. game from the makes of ico/sotc) before I plunk any cash down on it.. that plus the news that their online service might cost? I'm not going to pay for 2 different online plans.
So i'm going to wait it out.. theres a huge change mgs4 will come to 360.
I DO want a reason to get a ps3 though..(and will probably get one eventually.. unless it bombs soon) but it's just too much money at the moment.

I'd go with the 360 for the achievements and the much more active and easier to use online network. And for any downloadable stuff that may come out. The ps3 has that ability as well, but hasnt quite nailed it down as well as microsoft

MGS4 and FFXIII are certified PS3 exclusives. Your claim is invalid.
As for me, I may be more inclined to get the Xbox 360 version since my friends opt more for that than the PS3. If I get around, I'll buy the PS3 version and use the online mode to start another band.

Frankly, I'd expect the gameplay to be identical on either system, so the only factor in determining which to buy should be which system more of your friends you'd want to play online with own.

I own both and PSN sucks in comparison to XBL. XBL gets all the demos of games coming out while PSN rarely does. Every single XBL Arcade game comes with a demo, and the PSN games rarely if ever have a demo associated with them. XBL also has infinitely more movies and movie trailers than PSN does. PSN is pathetic in comparison and is most likely years away from catching up to where XBL is right now.

I would definitely buy it on the PS3, because even Rock Band wouldn't make me pay for online. And also there's no way in hell I would waste any money on the crappy Xbox 360. (I'm not trying to get the fanboys all riled up, I'm just saying I wouldn't waste money on it because the PS3 is all I will need for the next ten years, because I am not going to buy another console for ten years. Microsoft is also a giant douche of a company.)

Well, the 360 does have a leading edge with more games and more games that are good at the moment, but the Ps3 is definitely going to be catching up with the good games, with Ninja Gaiden Sigma (omg i love it) that just came out, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, and some other hyped up games coming out within the end of the year.
I must also agree with your comment about Microsoft being a giant douche. Though it's ironic since I'm running windows

Well its okay saying that "you are not trying to get the fanboys all riled up" but using the term "crappy Xbox 360" isn't exactly 'not' trying is it?
Buying an Xbox 360 is not a waste of money (as far as buying consumer electronics in general is concerned). I seriously doubt the PS3 will last 10 years, sure the PS2 has had a good run, but lets face it, for most of its early life it really had no competition. Now that Sony and MS are competing over the top end of the console market, things will move along at a faster pace.
Saying MS is a Douche of a company, while lauding Sony is pretty daft too, they are both large corporations trying to make as much money as possible, and as far as software and patents go, they are as bad as each other. Blue Ray and HD-DVD exist because Sony and MS (and a few others) couldn't agree on a standard (that did not involve one party charging the other party a license fee).
Try and be a little more open minded in future.

The only valid concern with regards to the 360 versus the PS3 is if they enter into some sort of "exclusive content" deal with one sytem or another.
Take GH2 for example, which now has a song library fragmented on 2 console systems. You've got a PS2 only 80's expansion, 10 existing 360 exclusive tracks, the PS2's GH1 songs only partially ported to the 360, and recent news suggesting 360 exclusive downloads.
It would be flippin' bonkers for Rock Band to do something similar, effectively forcing people to buy 2 entire band's worth of peripherals and a pair of pricey next gen consoles.

Coming from someone that would need to buy a new console to play this game ...
I find this topic very interesting.
Please be civil in the discussion. I'd hate to see it locked due to some console war.
We currently have the PS2 which might make us lean more toward the PS3 for backwards compatibility but if XBox really shines in other areas, we just might consider making the switch.
Pros / Cons for each system would be greatly appreciated.

I say get whatever one more of your friends have, I'm sure the game will be fine on either console.
If you've got a PS3 and 360 and your friends are an even mix between both, I'd personally go with the 360 version as Live blows PSN out of the water, and GH2 guitars are usuable with it.

I'll be getting it on PS3 and here's why...
1. I'm not paying for online (why don't people consider that when they bring up price 4x$50 = $200 or the $200 the HD-DVD add-on costs)
2. I'm on my 5th 360 so at least I can trust I'd get to play it without having to wait 2-4 weeks every 3 months.
3. My current GH guitar is in bad shape so I'd have a new guitar to use with those games. I'll probably be horrible at GH 80's untill I get this or GH 3 whatever comes first.
4. I'd hope they'd use all that extra Blu-Ray space to improve sound quailty but other devs don't seem to be using it on multi-platform games.

1.ok now xbox 360 has graphic compression which means that something that takes up a lot of space will only take up a little bit of space on the 360.and thats why microsoft didnt have to get any hire space capacity. and besides it will make the system just cost hella much more.
2 we have more people online 2million to be exact and its acually worth paying 4. we can find freinds better and what not.
3 and to mention the battires on the ps3 are inreplaceble on controllers.

You can't tell a person what to get. One of my friends owned a 360 and he was the only one that had a "next-gen" system and I played Gears of War a few others and I enjoyed them. But, when I decided to make a console purchase I just didn't go by what people were saying if that were the case I would have a 360 sitting on my entertainment center and not a PS3. The person who will be investing 400+ dollars into a piece of equipment has to do the research. Since I have a great love for watching movies and now I have an hd-tv I couldn't have been happier with the purchase.
I'm not a big online player so the inferior online interface doesn't bother me. The games play just as well as they would on x-box live they it's just not as easy to navigate through menus and such, but hey, you get what you pay for.
You have to buy what you think is the better system for you, and ignore all the "console wars" and "pwnage and ftw" talk. Just buy what works for you.

After the 60 gig PS3's price drop to $500, and the slew of new features and cool crap coming down the pipe (like Home), I didn't think there was a choice. Especially when the Elite with Xbox Live would cost just as much, and not have any next-gen DVD capabilities.
Sure Live might be more robust and have more content (they did have a year's head-start), but PSN is free and I haven't had any problems with it.
So in my opinion, even if the 360 has most of the advantages, they're only temporary. The PS3 would be the wiser investment, even if more of your friends are on the 360.

I don't know why people keep saying this??? True Xbox live has a lot more users than the PSN.
But, there's has to be at least 600,000 PS3s in homes right now in the US alone, and lets say that of those only 25% have broadband connection, that's 150,000 users. If you can't find someone to play with among 150K users....you must be really picky.

Yea, but of those 150,000 people that's on PSN, how many are going to buy Rock Band initialy, and worse yet how many will have the $200.00 version of Rock Band? And you have to take into consideration that this is a new game, a new name brand in gaming with a very high dollar price tag attached to it, and it's being released roughly one month after GH3 which will run PS3 users $99. So in total you're expecting a lot of people who's paid $500-$600 for a PS3, to hopefuly pay another $150-$200, even though GH3 so far, has more song tracks that are better known compared to a lot of the announced songs for this game. And a game that's selling cheaper than this game with a name brand that's better known. Don't get me wrong I know, and you probably know that this is going to be a better game than GH3, but you better hope those 150,000 people believe it too, otherwise you'll either always be stuck playing the drums or singing or both because not enough people has bought the entire RB package or you'll be stuck playing GH3 because they have the larger selection people to choose to play with. We may all like RB, but we're a minority in the gaming world, I'd bet there's not even 150,000 users on this message board between both systems so good luck and have fun on the PSN.

There will be plenty of people on both Live and PSN so I really don't think there is a concern either way. I'll be on the PSN day one for both GH3 and RB, so that at least makes one.

i try to stay away from posts that become console wars, but it's somewhat relevant.
im a ps3 owner. i know nothing about the 360 or xbox live. i think the PSN is fine, but im not gonna say that there's an abundance of players online. sure it's easy to find a game of resistance online, it's a world server now so you can play with folks in europe, japan, etc. before then it was tough to find games at the hours i play (late night, pacific time zone).
im not much of a gamer (i mainly got the ps3 for blu ray), so i dont know how the other games online user base fill up, but every time i check out calling all cars there is like 20 people at the most. yes, TWENTY people. most of the time it's even less than that, closer to 10. out of hundreds of thousand of ps3 owners. i know it aint the greatest game, but you would think there would be more people on there.
it may not be hard for most people to find band mates, but around my schedule it probably would be. i dont know if it would make a difference if i had xbox. i dont really care. im mainly going to be playing online or offline with friends anyway who also will be getting the ps3 version.

To be honest I'm not really sure if those numbers are correct. Could be less for all I care.
What I am concerned about is that there is somebody to play with(and there always is) while I'm online and those persons are worth playing with.

no i just say what I think. I think that a lot of times people have opinions and they don't let them out...they keep it inside...and why? There's no point! It shouldn't matter if people are offended ...what hurts more is if you keep quiet and let stupid people be stupid forever.

I have a 360 only, so there you go...
Besides, PS3 is losing its exclusivity. A game nowadays has to push 500,000 units to break even and there are only maybe 1.75 times that of consoles out on the market right now. The publishers then turn to 360 to make up the difference.

well...for this game. Comparing the PS3 to the 360. The 360 will be able to download more songs and more content via Live. i mean i downloaded two packs of songs for GH2 and its pretty cool. Harmonix said themselves they will search for more song ideas through this site and others for the CD and to put more songs on Xbox Live Marketplace post-game release. its gonna be great

but the PS3 goes online too. in fact you dont even need to go into the PSN to download game content, you can download add-ons from within the game's menu.

Yeah, I don't know how RB can be any better on 360 than on a PS3, or vice versa. you are getting the same game, every song that is available on XBL will be available on PSN, and the online experience will be the same. I'll call it a draw.
Let's not start a console war on this peaceful forum. In fact, I think any thread with the subject being something like "PS3 vs 360" should be removed immediately; while we're at it, I think any thread with the title of "what will RB cost?" or "4 controllers with 3 USB ports?" or "no metal in RB" should all also be removed :D
