View Full Version : If my new guitar doesn't arrive, like, TOMORROW, I can't pay my rent.

If EA can't ship the new equipment in two days, then they shouldn't claim to on their support page.
I don't care if they're swamped or busy or coming back from vacation or whatever. They have $100 of MY money, and I need it to pay my rent.
2 day shipping my butt. Thanks a lot, EA.
I'm starting to think this game is more of a hassle than it's worth.

Hey dummy. You don't get your money back until you receive your guitar and you ship the broken one back and they receive it.
Be more responsible next time.

I know that, genius. My point is I need the new guitar here PRONTO, so I can send them my broken one and get my money back. And if they did in fact ship it as quickly as they claimed they would, it wouldn't have been a problem.

lol shouldve though ahead and gone with regular shipping instead of express.

Well I'm sure once they DO ship it will be 2-day air. Did they give a specific date on when they would actually ship it?

Exactly. Maybe this will teach him a lesson. It is just a game...not worth missing your rent over.

Ugh... you mongoloids. Does ANYBODY get the point I'm trying to make??
Here, I'll spell it out for you: IF EA did indeed ship me my new guitar when they said they would, then everything would be fine. If their website claimed "Since every single guitar is a piece of crap and everybody wants a replacement, we're totally backed up and you won't get yours for God knows how long," then yes, I wouldn't have sprung for the express shipping.
But their website did not say that. So I'm screwed. Get it?

It's funny I get called a mongoloid for making a logical point. Did they give you a specific shipping date? Just because they said something would be shipped by 2-day air doesn't necessarily mean that it will ship right away. I know that it's poor wording on EA's part.

stop complaining, nowhere on their site does it say your part will arrive in 2 days. it specifically says it will arrive as soon as possible using 2 day shipping. That doesnt mean it will ship that day. They never took ur money anyways. The bank holds your money until the transaction is complete. As long as you havent cancelled a credit card in the middle of a transaction, aka u have good credit history, you can take that 100 right out and use it.
[edit] also, you didnt have to choose express, whats more important, paying your rent, or playing a game??

Okay, I've cooled off a bit. I'm sorry for calling you a mongoloid.
And you're right, they didn't state when they would ship it. That didn't occur to me. I admit it, I brought this on myself.
I'm contemplating calling up tech support and seeing if I can have my $100 deposit moved to another credit card, but after reading all these horror stories about the phone support, I'm hesitant.

Man I totally see why you're pissed. When I signed up for this, it basically said "If you don't send it back in 28 days, THEN we will bill you for the cost of the guitar". Thereby leading me to assume that, you know, I have 28 days. And NOWHERE did it say the cost of the thing. So I was quite surprised when I was charged 100 dollars, overdrafting my account. Thanks a lot, EA. And after 4 or 5 days now, the new guitar is STILL not here.
So I get it.

I know their phone support isn't necessarily the best, but who's is? I know some people who have bumped their means of shipment from regular to express so you can probably do the opposite. It may take a day or two for the hold to be released though.
Apology accepted. :D Best of luck to you.

Yeah, I was sorta under that impression too. I guess I should have realized that, well, the world's out to screw ya.

That's true, every phone support is a nightmare. Whenever I get connected to some guy in India who has to claim his name is "Brad" or "Jeff" or something, I just wanna say, "Dude, that's not your name. What's your real name?"
So do you think I should risk it?

Well if you definitely have no other means to pay for the rent it gives you two options really.
1. Change shipping means and not get another guitar for maybe 2-3 weeks (guessing)
2. Put the rent on your credit card, have it go over your limit and just take the charge for going over it and take the penalty.
I'm a college student that only has a 500 dollar limit CC, sort of to build up some sort of credit history and I went over the limit by 3 cents paying for a fantasy baseball league as CBSportsline, and took a 30 dollar charge. So it may vary depending on credit limit, credit standing or type of credit card.

This IS OFFICIALLY the new RROD
You're serious? Can you say that with a straight face?
This is guitars breaking that still allows you sing and play drums on a 180 dollar retail game where apparently it looks like it will take 2 weeks to return and not to mention they send you the new guitar and then you send back the old one.
The RRoD is a hardware failure on a 300-400 dollar system that allows you to play NO games and takes 4-6 weeks to return.
There is no comparison.

200-400 is the same thing to me...if I pay over 100 bucks for something I expect it to FRAKING WORK! 2wks...4wks...again SAME THING...it's time I don't have to play on a game I paid a LOT of money for. If I had known this...I would have chosen NOT to be a HMX guinea pig and waited until 08 before I tossed my money away.
So what you are saying is that if I buy a car....I should only expect 1/3 of it to work right? NO EXCUSE HERE DUDE! You are right...THE RROD isn't the same...MS at least ACKNOWLEDGED the issue. HMX STILL remains silent while most likely the MAJORITY of its consumers sit at home with broken equipment...THAT is what PISSES ME OFF.
OH...and the two day thing is a LIE too...Even though I used a CC I don't normally use...I have to look at a 100.00 pending charge for the next two weeks.
I know I sound grumpy, but I have a right to be! NOT A PEEP out of HMX on this...I love the game and had a BLAST playing it while it lasted...which wasn't long. Now my guitar doesn't upstrum either...and I'll be dang if I am voiding a warranty.

Ok. A few things.
200 and 400 are not the same thing. If Rock Band was $400 would you buy it?
2 weeks and 4 weeks aren't the same thing, I know what you are trying to say but you can't say two things are equal when no one can say they are. Though I feel your sentiment that they should work out of the box.
No, you should expect a car to work. But, you pay 25,000 for a new car. If you think 25,000 and 200 are the same then yeah, I guess you should expect a 1/3 failure rate.
Like I saw in another thread it took Microsoft a full year to extend to the 3 year warranty and all the causes of the RRoD aren't fully known. So, I think that is also them trying to keep things under wraps.
This also happened over Thanksgiving break. Give them time to settle back in and figure things out. They work Monday-Friday like most people, have and vacation time and people usually tack on a vacation day or sick day on top of a national holiday for a bigger break especially after all the work they put into the game.
And I do agree, you should be grumpy. I also feel for everyone because everything I have works like a dream and I expected the forums to be flooded with idiots clamoring about the game and not people having problems.

No, it said 1-2 days processing, 2 day air, there will be a hold of $100 until we receive the guitar back from you. They even had a warning that you could overdraft your account. The only way you could miss it is if you didn't read the page and just gave EA your credit card randomly.

Uhhh...yeah...I do believe them. They do put out a LOT of tech news....and if they are lying I am SURE EA will throw out a suit on them. They wouldn't have said something like that had they not gotten it from EA. They stated thats where their source was. It MIGHT not take two weeks...they said UP TO two weeks...ONE DAY is aggravating enough at this point.

For those whining about not being able to play until the new guitar arrives... get real, you know you have your Guitar Hero guitar you can use in the mean time... :D
I too am waiting on my "2 day arrival", BUT, even though I have two other GH guitars, that does not mean I don't think this is a joke for something to break within hours of using it... it's just a severe lack of quality control and trust me, if yours isn't broken, it will... what kind of crap breaks after only a few hours (about 7 hrs for me).

What about the ps3 owners they have their gh guit... oh yeah sorry your just an idiot. Bunch of you are being a$$holes to these people that are getting used by ea as cash cows like me. Thought my pedal would last another week but it broke tonight so no more drums and guitar was gone 2 days ago. Called wal-mart and I'll get a full refund tomarrow minus my 2 year warranty (17.99) but oh well it will just serve as a reminder to never trust another hmx product again.

When i went through the process they said nothing about $100. They said they'd make a small charge to my card to verify it. Then i check my account and i see a $100 charge. Luckily i can still pay the rent but they should have really mentioned that. I know they changed the wording from what i hear, but they should have stated that from the beginning. Oh well, just as long as i get my new guitar and my money back i should be good.

11-26-2007, 07:33 PM
hey man, i feel you.
IF you requested a replacement BEFORE the wording change, it never stated that it was a 100 dollar charge. the online request form said there would be an authorization on your account. not a hold. The authorization should clear in 3-5 business days. It doesn't mean that they cant charge you though. thats what the overdraft warning i believe is for. As long as they dont cancel that authorization, they can go ahead and process it later. I was SPECIFICALLY told my guitar would be here by tuesday by a supervisor, but mine hasnt even shipped. this IS kind of bogus. they should've at least processed all of the tuesday replacement orders by now. Its not a matter of receiving the guitar, but i want the hold off my account. there is NO way that guitar is worth 100 bucks. thats horse crap. they even wanted to authorize the 100 dollars for the usb hub so i could replace my headset adapters that dont work.
Don't give up hope man, but yeah, i agree it is kinda bogus.

I'm upset for the same reason. I saw the posts here about people getting dinged for $100 charges and checked my on-line statement to see that it had happened to me as well.
I could see them doing a "pre-auth" to make sure the charge would go through, but to put the charge through without making it clear that they expect a $100 DEPOSIT is pretty shady.
Depending on how long the exchange process takes, I may have to pay the $100 out of my own pocket or pay interest on it. I would have not chosen Express if (a) I had known that I was paying a DEPOSIT versus them holding my credit card information (like a hotel does) or (b) that it was going to take more than a couple of weeks to get a replacement.
Keep in mind - just because they are sending you the new guitar via two-day air doesn't mean that they are going to pay to send the broken one back quickly nor does it mean they will process it quickly when it arrives back at their warehouse. It could easily be 2 - 3 weeks *after* you send the guitar back before they will clear the charge off of your card.
I'm seriously tempted to dispute the charge as soon as my guitar ships. They can charge me again if I fail to live up to the agreement I made with them when I requested express service. (I don't screw around with this kind of stuff. I currently have a Washington State Attorney General complaint pending against Microsoft over XBLA content not being transfered to my replacement box's serial number [my support case is still pending after 7 weeks].)
