View Full Version : Drums "issue"

So I'm pretty good at drums. I can finish most songs on Hard and a few on Expert (this is my first time ever playing drums, gimme a break). The strange thing is that I cannot get a 100% on any song, even on easy. My drum set seems to have dead spots on certain areas of the pads (I haven't gotten them pinpointed just yet). I know for a fact that I'm hitting the pad(s) at the perfect time, and I mean perfect...I've watched the note come down and concentrate ONLY on that single note, hit the pad as it passes the bottom line thing, and it doesn't register. Wtf? It's not a calibration issue, don't give me that. I've calibrated so many times thinking that it might help, and it doesn't. So what's up? Do I have a bad drum set? Is it just me??

People with bad drumsets have reported this problem. Consider sending it in?

Damn it, so there's really a problem? GAHHH. I don't want to send it in and not have a drumset for like 4 weeks. Where would I send it and how long would it take?

You don't have to send it to them first. You call the support number found on the support site. You have 2 options. You can have them send you a box. You send them the drums. Then they send you a new set. Or you can do what I did and use your credit card. They put a charge of $100 on the card that only goes through if you fail to send your drums back in 28 days. They ship the replacement using UPS 2nd day air. I should have mine by Wednesday or Thursday.

You want to 100 percent a song?

There is one bonus song, even on Medium there is only blue and red notes. I swear to God, that is not one yellow, red, or bass note in the entire song. I just can't remember exactly which song it is in the bonus section.

They aren't crappy...the pads are just non-responsive at times.

It's not just one pad for me, it's all of them.

Yeah, if that is what your pads are doing, do like the rest of us and request a replacement. I pray my replacement will function 100%. It can be the difference between 4 and 5 stars most of the time.

I can't imagine you can finish hard with a "broken" drumset.. but what do I know.

This is my biggest fear . I dont wanna get a new kit that sux worse then the old . My friend has a 2nd Gen Drum set and I have the 1st release . Mine actually works better then his . I was playing on Hard last night at his house and not only was the Kick pedal not working ( it would not rapid kick ) the pads were not picking up even single notes sometime . I will try the new set before sending back the old .

I hope the replacement will be better too. I'll have to occupy myself with guitar and vocals until I get it back!

i'm having the same problem with my drums as the guy in the video (although i don't play them nearly as well) - intermittently not registering. as far as i'm concerned, they'll keep eating shipping costs for replacements until i get fully functional gear.

If you're feeling adventurous, there's a fix to basically take the heads off the drums and make sure all the connectors under the rubber bulbs are tight.

It has the benefit of being immediate, not risking having the same problem or worse happen with a new kit, and unless you chew through a wire in your rabid desire to fix it HMX can't tell that you've done it. People do report success. In fact I haven't seen any post that says "I tried the fix and it didn't help."

I don't think I want to attempt this but do you have a link to an example or walkthrough?

Interesting. I wouldn't try it unless I knew exactly how to do it without breaking anything.

My apologies, what I've said is pretty much the limit of what I know about it. I did not make the video nor have I dismantled my drum controller.

Perhaps this thread is of use: http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=9937

I find it pretty hard to believe this is your first time ever to play drums and you can finish most songs on hard and some on expert. I used to play drums some time ago and still can, but I can't do all the songs on hard(and get a good score) and find it hard to see how most people that have never played drums can. Maybe your the exception??

I tried the fix and it didn't help. Lol. I got my replacement drums yesterday. They work way better than my first set. But I now have the red drum problem. Before, I had trouble with my red, yellow, and blue pads not responding correctly. I removed the red pad and made sure everything was tight. I feel its a sesitivity issue. Not a connection issue. At least in my case...

try switching the red drum head from your old set with the one from your new set and see if your new set plays even better. post results.

That would be great and I would definately try that if they weren't two completely different designs. I've thought about that but my first set looks like an older design. I say that because the design of my newer set looks like an improvement to me. There is no way to disconnect the drum on the old set. It is wired straight to a chipboard. No white connector like on my new set. The sensor is also completely different. It also looks like an inferior design. Overall my new set is awesome. It's just that I have to keep the red pad taped down for the sensitivity to be right. If I play soft, I could probably get a 1,000 streak roll. The response is perfect in that respect. But when doing rolls in a fast song, I'm not going to switch from hitting the other pads quick and with a normal attack to hitting the red drum lightly. That is just not going to happen lol. My other pads respond the same whether its a light hit or a harder hit. My only issue is the red one. If I do end up getting another set that is the same design I will try just swapping the red pad.

I'm having the same problem as well. For me it's the blue pad. The other three work fine, but the blue pad only registers about half the time (if I go into a menu and use the blue pad to go down the list, it only moves about half the time I hit it). I just applied to get them replaced, I hope all 4 work on the replacements...we'll see.
