I recently broke my bass pedal, and thanks to my shop i have i made a metal diamond plated reinforment and bolted it to my broken bass pedal. it works beautifully and probably can never be broken. I was looking to make some money out of this and want to start mass producing it if people are finding problems with their bass pedal lacking good reinforcment. i was thinking about selling the diamond reinforcment with 6 bolts for $15 dollars not including shipping. Let me know if you are interested or what you think.

i took out three of the bolts so you can see where they go and how nicely they blend in with the pedal, when the bolts are in there is no discomfort to your feet at all

does it go down all the way to the bottom, im still just a little worried that if anything goes wrong and now my warrenty's voided, my petal now broke leaving the smallest bit of plastic behind that it seems might even be small enough to slip through here. Sorry about all these questions, im just trying to do whats best... the whole situations getting to me. why couldnt harmonix have just made a metal petal in teh first place

i'm not quite sure what you mean by saying does it go all the way to the bottom. the screws will go through the bass pedal but only by a couple centimeters. i also need clarification by what you mean by leaving a bit of plastic that "seems might even be small enough to slip through here."
thanks

i mean my petal broke at the pivot point, right near the rod, not in the center of teh petal, the very bottom

oo, i see what you mean, the drill points do not go that far down, but i can make you a special plate that has drilling holes at the very bottom of the plate, let me know how much room from the bottom the break is so i can make sure to accomodate you with the best screw size/ placement for them

truthfully, right now i cant tell you, my drums are downstairs and frankly im too lazy to check but its about 1/4 of an inch, it is an extremely small amount of plastic left on the rod. It was just a clean cut at the bottom that at first made me think the rod just snapped out of its spot. if you need exacts, i can measure tomorrow but im not looking to fix my broken one, i have already ordered my new one, i just dont want to put this metal plate on it and have it break below the plate like the same spot it did before

your case was different than mine in that mine broke in the center. So, the plate is off from the pivot point of the pedal, but only by about centimeter. For you i would have to make an extension of the plate so it covers the pivot point and use smaller screws to go into the pivot point so i don't screw into the actual place where the pivot goes. or screw it into the pedal diagonally. if you could send me your pedal we could do a custom plate that would work for your situation. please e-mail rasehead@netscape.net so we can exchange contact information if you are interested.

Nice fab work. My petal broke within five days of the games release after Best Buy replaces it I was going to fab something like yours but use one of those chrome foot shaped gas petals to do the trick. If that doesnt work I like your Idea email me and we do some business:) harley_street_ride@yahoo.com

hi, just a quick note, what would i need exactly to attach the reinforcement to my kick pedal? its not broken yet (I play with no shoes on and tell everyone to do so lol), but this reinforcement looks like it will solve my worries of the damn thing breaking under too much stress.

All you need is a phillips head screw driver. The reinforcement comes with 6 self drilling screws. It is a good idea to get reinforcement now becuase it is easier to install when the pedal is not yet broken

When i heard RB would not be released till dec 17-18 here in canada i was bummed out, to say the least....
But in a way i am somewhat thankful,
I have been watching and looking here for info regarding what progress that they (EA/Harm) have been making in terms of the problems being found in some of the equipment.... (mic, guitar, drums)
And i am sure they are working hard to get things smoothed out, finding the correct process to weed out problem parts and what nots.....
Regardless, of the strides they may make i am planning ahead to make the best out of what i get.....
I plan on making two ajustments to the drum kit (As the hope is they are problem free from the box)
1. I am giving Ras here a chance , that his plate will do the trick, and give support to the pedal....
2. I have also decided to mod the skins, to dampen the toms,.....
Although i do not have the plate just yet, its was to have been sent out today... I believe Ras did a good job in his choice of material ( Diamond Plate ) instead of just any type of steel/alum plate.....
And no doubt should do the job and support the weak plastic ....
Although it should have never been needed, (Ea/Harm) should have thought this one out a little more, i think overall this is a great and easy solution , and with a few turns here and there, 1 base petal with with the proper support .....
Well Done....

Rase,
Just ordered one as well as let a buddy at work know about your product the other day. He told me he ordered one as well. I'm hoping mine get here just about the same time that my set gets here.
Anyways, a suggestion. Have you thought about making the the whole pedal with the hinge as well. that way there are no holes needed to be drilled or tapping screws to add either. You would wrap the end of the aluminum to create the shaft for the rod or weld a tube on the end.

well actually there still would be holes needed because the magnet from the pedal has to be on the metal one. Also it would greatle increase cost because you would also need a place for the spring and you would have to have the alluminum shaped which would be more time consuming and costly.
Thanks for your purchase!!

Hey i am not sure if you have to return the bass pedal too, i don't think so but don't quote me on it. And yes this plate will void the warrenty but you shouldn't be needing it because the pedal won't break :)

the pedal prevents it from snapping, but it doesnt stop it from the circuit failing. so if the pedal suddenly stops registering hits, you could be screwed. but yeah, it seems for the most part people have not had to return their broken pedals.

My only concern is that with a thin, flimsy piece of plastic, if you drill a hole in the pedal, you're likely to fracture it or crack it even more in the process. But then again, I've never drilled anything. Can someone address my fears?

it's possible that screwing it in may crack a bit from the stress, but since it's self-tapping if you do it right it should tap into it smoothly with no problems. and even if it did crack a little, it seems the whole point of this plate is to reduce stress on any points, so if there are little cracks, you should still be able to step down on it no problem.

The screws arent only self tapping they are self drilling, on the tip of the screws there is a mini "drill bit" that drills into the plastic first and then the thread goes in so there isn't any cracking of the plastic.

Hey rasehead.. I'm pretty interested in the plate, but I just want to know a few things:

HEy, i'm not quite sure what you mean the by extra orange. although i think i have the older pedal too, because you can't see the hinge when you turn the pedal over. And of course it will help the durability,.
I will ship to singapore, it will be 11 dollars

Mine also broke at pivot point and I decided to make my own reinforcement. Why? I live in Canada, no replacement.
picture : http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l243/Wanny1/PDR_0519.jpg
First my father got back the pivot and the pedal together by welding the plastics. Then my father used Carbon fiber on the top with the actual pedal shape, glued it with eurethane and put some rivets and washers.
He also put carbon fiber under the pedal with only carbon and eurethane, no rivets, that's why theres tape. I will remove it in a day or 2.
Well I dunno if I just voided my warranty, but it's now solid as a tank and I can actually play.
So harmonix, if I voided my warranty, what will some holes and solidifications do to you? It's not like you will use the broken pedal and make it in one piece again. I didn't touch anything else. oh well..

I ordered a bass pedal replacement and had a supervisor from EA to call me so i could ask a couple questions. one of the things he said is that he didn't think that they were even asking for the bass drum pedals back and not sending you a return shipping label because all they can do with the pedals is throw them away. I quote him when i say "they are bass pedals, your suppose to step on them, they break." So i wouldn't worry too much about the voided warranty or "excessive abuse"

Hey, this shouldn't matter too much. I have an "old" style and mine is holding up just fine. But you can do what you want. The plate fits the same on both pedals.

Alright. I think I'll get the new pedal then order the plate. I won't be getting the game until Christmas though so I hope you are still selling these in January. Good thing Activision doesn't have a drum game or they'd be blocking your production because you refused to make an "offer" with them.

I just have a minor crack but this product looks awesome and pretty much solves all problems with the kit. Guess I'll just have to sing and play guitar for a few days.

i havent bought it, but i dont see why strong double sided tape wouldnt hold this thing as long as you make sure the pedal is wiped clean before applying it.

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii68/cashu29/1224070520.jpgMine broke here, anything for this? I have a new pedal on the way but i'm sure it will do the same thing. It just seems with your reinforcement it would break in the same spot mine did, maybe even faster with the extra weight. Let me know, if you can't make something maybe I will try.

yeah, reinforcing one point can cause greater stress elsewhere, one made completely from metal would be ideal. Also diamondplate is pretty and all but it's kind of slippery at times, plain steel with skateboard griptape is a better solution imho.
Also has anyone taken two stock pedals with a headphone jack splitter and try to make a double pedal yet?

Does the EA warranty cover breakage of the plastic like the one shown on the first page?
There were only two options when i checked the site last (20 minutes ago).
Since i live in canada this may be faster than getting a replacement pad anyways, ugh.

hey, what would you guys think about a plastic pedal that replaces your old one. Its a really strong plastic, cnc i think or something like that. We would put up a picture with a small block chevy being supported by the pedal.
Also, i've hit the 1000 mark for sales. Pretty awesome!

Not to take any sales away but you can fix the pedal even if it is cracked free and easily. Take a look at my post under the rock band forum for details. I will post a picture by tomorrow. My pedal was crack through on the edges. I modified the pedal in a way that does m not void the warranty. I've spent the last two days beating the absolute crap out of it and the crack has not gotten any bigger.

Hi there. My pedal just broke and I'm interested in purchasing your mod as a fix, but I have a bit of a problem: the pedal broke roughly where the lowest screws on your plate are positioned. I wish I could take a picture, but I don't have a digital camera.
The crack is directly between the 4th and 5th (from the bottom) grip ridges. How will this effect the installation of your mod?
Thanks in advance.

Hey if you pedal is broken towards the bottom you must send me an e-mail over ebay saying that you need lower holes for your pedal as we do have a template to drill extra holes in the bottom of the pedal for those with break towards the bottom
Thanks

Thanks for this service! Wish I had come here before dealing with EA and their RMA issues. I will probably get one for the new pedal should it ever arise. Was thinking of doing something like this myself but your price is worth my time! :-)

I just ordered the carbon one. My bass pedal broke a few hours ago, already ordered an RMA, but I'm definitely going to have to reinforce this one, at least until they release a standalone drum pedal that is (hopefully) more sturdy.
Question, though: once applied, can the carbon reinforcement be removed if I have to RMA that pedal for some other reason?

Hey guys, we came out with a new product to fix pedals broken at the hinge!
This will NEVER break, you can order it with a just the hinge if you already have a pedal metal. Or you can order it with a billet design, which looks really sick
we have em for sale of amazon and ebay
Hope all our customers our happy with their pedal metal!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/Rock-Band-Bass-Pedal-Fix-PEDAL-METAL-BILLET-with-HINGE_W0QQitemZ280195825420QQihZ018QQcategoryZ1225 17QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I also noticed a slight difference with the pedal in the fact that it is ever so slightly easier to press down
I can now beat don't get fooled again on EXPERT!!
pretty cool i know.

Amazing entrepreneurial idea, man!!!!
Wish I would have thought of it!
Just ordered a PETAL METAL from you on Ebay today. Mine broke off about an inch and a half from the bottom, so there's still almost 2 inches attached to the hinge. Will your standard template fit this?

:mad:I think it is great that their are people out there making replacement drum pedals but I think it is terrible that we have to by them. If their is that many that are breaking where people have to build them, then this is a defect with the product. Defects in products should be bought and paid for by the company not the customer. My son got Rockband for Christmas and we took the first one back to the store because of trouble with the guitar and then the 2nd one the drum pedal broke after 2 weeks. These Rockband set have big defects in them and the company should be fixing them not us. We have 2 other guitars and games for over a year with out problems. This Rockband seem to be good money down the drain. With in 6 months, your Rockband set will be nothing but broken junk unless the company stands behind it and fix these problem, and I don't mean replace with the same defective parts. Fix not Replace!!!!

I agree, it's bull****. Not only that, but to replace it quickly, even the ****ing bass pedal, you need to let them charge 125 bucks to your card. **** that, EA. Send me a GD STEEL pedal so your ****, which I spent my hard-earned money on, will stop breaking. This is my second broken pedal.

Hey all,
I just thought I'd post some tips in case you are DESPERATE to play while waiting for your drum pedal Express RMA or reinforcement.
step 1.) break pedal
step 2.) find duct tape
step 3.) find hard flat board
step 4.) tape the heck out of hard flat board to broken pedal (make sure to use duct tape around stress point)
step 5.) stomp hard!! (ie. finish 'MAPS' on Expert)
(see pedal.jpg attached)
Hope you guys find this helpful (if not amusing).
Cheers,
Yeaaaaah cuz!
