Ok guys. A lot of people tend to get hard rock and heavy metal mixed up. So, name a few bands that are metal and a few that are hard rock. I'm not saying you are right or wrong. I just want to know in your opinion who you think is hard rock and who you think is heavy metal.

Here are mine:

Hard Rock Heavy Metal
AC/DC Metallica
Aerosmith Black Sabbath
Default Megadeth
The Doors Deep Purple
Foo Fighters

There are people who think the Foo Fighters are metal? What kind of bizarro-universe is this?

I wouldn't classify the Doors as Hard Rock....Let's replace them with Van Halen.

Hard Rock

Darkthrone
Guns n' Roses

Iron Maiden
AC/DC

Cannibal Corpse
Cream

Electric Wizard

There's a pretty fine difference.

Foo Fighters, I would say they are Alternative Rock more than Hard Rock. I'm going with modern age bands for this.

Metal
Gojira
Lamb of God
In Flames
Mastodon
Arsis
Austrian Death Machine
The Black Dahlia Murder

Hard Rock

A Perfect Circle
Rob Zombie
Tool
Seether
Ashes Divide
Bang Camaro
Anarchy Club
Endeverafter

Disturbed aren't metal... they're hard rock, and Mastodon are progressive sludge, which is a subgenre of metal.

Firstly, Distrubed are very conterversial when it comes to that, secondly i put mastadon in that catagory for thier lyrics, not thier sound

Hard Rock

Guns n Roses
Van Halen
Cream
The Who
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple (Most metal on Hard rock list)
Thin Lizzy
Blue Oyster Cult
Rush (Arguably)

Metal
Motorhead
Iron Maiden
Black Sabbath
Judas Priest
Diamond Head

They're all from the same era give or take a few years so the change of 'heaviness' in music wouldn't of changed that much.
