I work at Gamestop (only part-time so don't bash me) and once a year our managers go to a conference to see some of the new products coming out (and to get a lot of free stuff) but anyways my manager went to conference a month or two ago and i remember he told me about a peripheral he had been informed of that was actually a strobe light and a fog machine for Rock Band....my first response was there is no way but he said it was USB and that it would sync up with the music you play in RB so as to enhance your rocking experience....this would be freaking amazing but Harmonix is there any merit to his claim? is there really gunna be a strobe light and fog machine for the game?

I think you've been duped.

I can't possibly see how devices such as those would be something Harmonix would be interested in releasing. It doesn't add any functionality to the game whatsoever. Your boss was likely just messing with you.

my boss wouldnt lie to me about this but its very possible he was misled himself

Lol, i made a bunch of posts about having USB strobe lights and a fog machine back in may or something. It would be so freakin awesome.

I am friends with the manager at my game stop, and she told me the same thing. She said it was going to be mad by Mad Catz

LOL - my wife thought I was crazy for buying mic and guitar stands. She would have me committed if I came home with a fog machine and some DJ lights!

Of course, I wonder if I can rent some for my next party.... Hmmm.....

It's certainly true; I was at that Game Stop Manager's show in LV couple months back too and this is a real licensed product from a company called PDP. Like you say; it works in unison with the game; lights match the music and fog when you hit star power. Pretty cool. Adding further realism to the game; next should be my own Rock Band groupies; it doesn't get any more real than that.

The strobe light, possibly...but I doubt the fog machine.

I wouldn't buy it... but it would be kind of fun to mess with.

that would be tight if the strobe light would hit with the music, kind of like a real concert.

i wonder if the fog will block our view of the charts.

Uhh.. yeah I dunno how it would do it short of audibly.. I just can't envision the interface, software or otherwise...

There seems to be a real disturbing trend to these games (which I love, don't get me wrong) that is leading itself towards a bizzaro world where people pay to watch other people play pre-recorded music tracks using plastic replica instruments. :) Just the launch party video's and such of people getting on stage to play the games and a crowd actually cheering for it... now strobe lights and smoke... I dunno.. it's a blast to play or be part of the band, but I just don't see any voyeuristic appeal. I dunno I suppose you could liken the RB strat as a DJ turntable... though it's a bit of a stretch. At least the drum kit is a drum kit and you can do free form fills and there's still the vocal performance... still... it's a little disturbing in a generation that has so little originality in the first place...

Come on guys!! Think!! while having those items for a party (outdoors) would be adding to the fun, it's totally impractical. if I where Madkatz I would seriously reconsider making these products (if that is the case). Especially since you can get a fog machine for 20 bucks (I have one, I bought it this Halloween), and a strobe light goes for like 15 dollars at the most.

I have no idea how a product like this would ever make it to market, while the "Wii Party Station" was cancelled due to lack of interest.

Seriously - look up the Wii Party station. Chilled drink holders ATTACHED to my Wii-Mote charger? HOW IS THERE A LACK OF INTEREST!?!

Why only outdoors (Indoor fog machines work just fine)? Why do you think it is impractical? Having been involved in music promotions I know how much people enjoy light shows and fog, and happen to own a number of lights and fog machines myself (If I had access to the USB API for RB I would try and rig up a set up myself). I would rather a laser than the strobe, but even strobing in sync with the music and puffs of fog during star power would certainly make for a damn cool RB party. Now if we could get a pyrotechnics add on... what is that going to far?

pyro? see "great white" about 6 years ago. they really "burned down the house", and some of their fans got "totally toasted". what a blast!

This has been rumored for months and this is always how it begins:

My [insert relation] went to a GameStop conference...

The device fits the rumor well. I think it'll happen.

How about a penalizing machine? Have one over each player's head, and when one fails the machine will burst freezing air rather than fog? LOL

this is getting ridiculous.

Memories. We painted an old piece of crap car like your strat once, all EVH'd out, lit it on fire and watched it burn while it drove itself through a field. Those were the days.

That a sticker, or did u paint it?

EDIT: where did u get the light?

A fog machine would cause a lot of peoples fire alarms to go off.

It's a vinyl skin from a place www.ghskinz.com. They will be posting it on their site probably tomorrow.

The light I got from guitar center, the lights move by the sound.

LOL, yea that is true my wife would do the same. A fog machine and Lights would be cool but I thnk that is for the Hard Core Rock Band Gamer. I wonder if they will have Rock Band in any bars where they play on stage in the future using the fog machine, lights and Plastic Instruments. That would look funny but would be kind of cool.

I play with 3 of my friends at least 4 times a week at my house, and this would be tight. We already play with the lights off, but colored lights and/or a strobe would be excellent!

Not real sure about the smoke machine, hope there is an option to turn it off.

I can help back this up. I actually knew about this a lil while ago. Cant believe i didnt think of mentioning it on the forums here. But i came across this http://ps3.qj.net/GameStop-leaks-Rock-Band-Stage-Set-with-lights-and-smoke-effects/pg/49/aid/111543
aparently Gamestop accidentally put the item up on there cite a little bit early.
