Wow really? It's a really great thing I switched over to DirecTV this year, so I could actually watch some football and basketball

Wait...
Does Time Warner = Charter?
I've seen Time Warner commercials and the cable box/remote looks almost exactly the same...

Man, most of New York is gonna be screwed. Apartments mainly get cable, and Time Warner is the only option in most of the city, so it's not even a matter of being able to switch to someone who has it. So glad Verizon decided to give us Staten Islanders the good stuff first. :D

Since when did Time Warner have a cable company? All I know of is Comcast out here :D

Yeah, they got into the cable business a while ago and then split off from Time Warner earlier this year.

I'm watching VH1 (some countdown of great rock songs or something) and I keep seeing this message.
Does this affect the East Coast? Because out here in California, we have Comcast and they aren't mentioned in the message.

Yeah, I saw that message come across my screen while I was watching South Park, that's pretty strange. Sucks to be those who have TW or BH for their cable providers...

Typical media exploitation.
Time Warner won't lose MTV and MTV won't stop delivering signal to Time Warner. There are millions of Time Warner and Brighthouse subscribers across the country, MTV Networks would do their advertisers a huge disservice to discontinue programming.
MTV wants more money and that's what it all boils down to. So when you get the media involved, people (like most of the first posts on this thread) start to freak out.
These publicized negotiations are why your cable AND satellite rates go up nearly every year. Networks strong arm the media delivery companies by bringing public attention to these negotiations.
This stuff happens every 7 to 10 years with all major cable networks, similar to union negotiations. MTV channels are not going anywhere.

Wonder why my g/f hasnt said anything about this. She works there, and all.
Whatever, those channels all suck. Comedy central hasnt been worthwhile since family guy came back on air (FG>SP), and mtv is only good if you want to chuckle at how desperate people are for attention. I hardly watch tv as it is. I only use cartoon network as a sleep aid. im scared of the dark, and adult swim is good...so, yeah.

Spike is a damn good channel, if only because they show Star Trek during the day.
Comedy Central also doesn't just have South Park, they have Colbert Report and the Daily Show, which I enjoy.
Furthermore, Family Guy < all, so Family Guy < South Park.

I work for Time Warner Cable and since yesterday we have been bombarded with calls regarding this. I'm in the LA area. If Time Warner doesn't come to an agreement with Viacom, they can lose A LOT of customers. LA area use to be Comcast.

This afffects everyone who has TW and BH cable, if you don't have those companies you're fine

I saw that this morning. Sorry to those who have Time Warner and Bright House (odd name).
Thank God I switched to a different provider in March.

Yes but is it Midnite in the west coast?
likun
01-01-2009, 03:20 AM
no but i was guessing it would be shut off in each area separately since even if its the same station they broadcast shows later in the west to match up with the time zone. but i had a few drinks so my logic might be messed up >_>
I'm gonna check in an hr anyway then it will be midnight there.

Either that stations have come to an agreement, or no ones at the office to pull the "time warner feed here" plug

Nah this whole disagreement thing was all a lie for when the cable company raises the cost we wont think its a bad thing.
It makes people think the raise in price was to keep those stations

Of course. (see my post # 13 in this thread)
This happens all the time, just like Union negotiations. The content provider (MTV Networks) gets the consumer's panties in a bunch and drags the service provider's name (Time Warner) through the mud.
Then everyone smiles, shakes hands and nothing happens to the beloved channel lineup.
See ya next year when FOX renews.

I have Time Warner but I don't watch those shows. I mean what has happened to MTV these days? I believe its called MUSIC Television. Why are there so many reality shows? And when my friends are watching it, they play a song (a horrible rap one) but don't play the whole thing. Whats up with that?
