View Full Version : Wii drums randomly stop responding

You know, I would have figured that by now... months after the Xbox 360/PS3 release and the delays the Wii version went through... Harmonix would have fixed the drums stopping to respond issue on the WIi drums and all current shipping drums. But I guess that's a lot to ask, you know... shipping a working product...
It happened FOUR times during Hungry Like the Wolf online last night (I think it was that song anyway) and a few times during other songs as well, but I think I've got it fixed now by just shoving tons of paper in the battery compartment. But come on Harmonix... the Wii version of RB2 has a handful of bugs, and the drums have issues like this. Do you even have anyone in QA who tests this stuff before hand, or do you just roll with it and hope for the best??
Now, if the paper-fix doesn't hold out as a fix I have to RMA the drums... and if they have the same issue, RMA them as well and so on and so on. With how widespread the issue is, how can I be sure I'll get a working set within my ultra short 60 day warranty? After that, I have to go buy another set and continue the same process for an issue that's not even my fault!

I've got the same disconnect problem, but it can't be my battery cover. which has foam inside it, and shows adequate depressions indicating the batteries are kept in contact.

Mine had foam in it too and showed depressions. I added some folded up paper in there and it hasn't disconnected yet (I played a few more songs last night... again, intentionally playing a little harder than normal.) so fingers crossed.

I agree it is related to a battery compartment issue. If the drums shake you can recreate the disconnect problem. It is obviously a power issue that relates to a loose connection somewhere.
There was one song that had a quick combination of blue/red blue/yellow that must have created a side to side movement of the drum kit and it disconnected very time that combination was played.
I was going to try taping the batteries in place to resolve the problem.
I will also try the "paper" fix.

I don't know how well a tape fix would work. Since the force is going downwards there's still potential for the batteries to jar loose. If you use paper it's going to hold them in place against the battery door.
Give both a try though, I'm curious to hear your results as it seems to have worked for me (So far)

Tape didn't work too well. I'll try your paper fix tonight or tomorrow and report back.

Could this be why one of my drum pads stop working and the other 3 still work? I mean it seems to switch from the yellow and blue drum pads only. When one isn't responding the other one is and vice-versa.

It sounds like something different. The issue I was experiencing was the blue lights would kind of flicker a little and then, and then the whole set would cease to function until I power cycled it. I would RMA your set to be honest. (I'll probably RMA mine as well after my family comes to visit)

I probably will because its very irritating. It only lasted 2 days :/ then it started acting up -_-

That's weird. Does it happen all the time or randomly during a song and power-cycling the drums fixes it?

Paper trick seems to be working. I used a folded up piece of paper and than secured it in place with some electrical tape.
Just played about 10 songs with no disconnect problem. Usually have the problem every song.
Hope this solves the problem.

Not working for me anymore.

So what do I do now Harmonix? RMA the set until my warranty expires, then buy a new set, and go through this again? There has to be a solution here.

This same thing is happening to me and it's really annoying. I have three pieces of a paper towel in there and it won't hold it in place, and I can't seem to find my receipt so RMA is out of the question. :(
Come on, I pay over $100 for a game and an issue this basic gets missed?

I am using a wired rb1 drum kit and it cuts out pretty much in the middle of every song as well.
