Preface: first off, “Rock Band” is an awesome game, it perfectly translate the feel of being a Rock Star on stage with out having to learn the difficult technical side of music (I play the guitar, piano and anything electronic). One minor complaint sparked an idea… my complaint was that I beat the easy level in a single day and went back to get all perfects on the songs. I was averaging 97 to 99% accuracy. I played my first song perfect and I was so stoked. I was absolutely amazed and felt awesome, but the game did not reward me. In fact it didn’t even matter that I worked so hard to get 100% accuracy. In fact you can get a higher score playing sloppy but timing your boosts… that doesn’t seem right. Then came the birth of my idea, “Hall of Fame” Expansion Pack. Downloadable over the Internet as add on content.
Here’s how it works…
The point of the expansion pack is to get 100% accuracy on songs, which enhances replay value. As you get a 100% accuracy on a song you will receive a reward based on song difficulty:
Easy Harmonix Air Guitar Trophy
Medium Gold Record
Hard Platinum Record
Expert MTV Music Award
As you collect your rewards the ultimate goal is to be inducted into the “Rock Band Hall of Fame”. This is done by winning a certain number of awards per difficulty:
Easy 75 Trophies gets you the air guitar world championships (you are not in the hall of fame though.)
Medium 50 Gold Records gets you inducted into the Medium Hall of Fame
Hard 40 Platinum Records gets you inducted into the Hard Hall of Fame
Expert 30 MTV Awards gets you into the Expert Hall of Fame
Once inducted into the Hall of Fame there would be online leader boards of all Hall of Fame inducted artists. They would be ranked by their overall score of combined 100% accurate songs. Note: if someone gets 100% accuracy on the same song more than once they only get 1 award for each different song but the points would be added to their Hall of Fame points total. That way there is still competition with in the Hall of Fame inductees to continue getting 100% accuracy. Basically there would need to be an online Hall of Fame leader board per difficulty level, showing, name of player, rank, how many awards total, total points for accumulated 100% accuracy songs. If a player is playing in a band and gets a 100% accuracy then they get the band total points, but the band itself cannot get inducted into the Hall of Fame. A trophy room would also be cool to see some slick graphics for bragging rights too. Quick idea the Gold Records could have song names on them and band graphic for variation, with date and instrument. Hall of Fame mode only would count during tour play of course.
This is my basic concept; I don’t think it would be hard to incorporate although I don’t write code. Come on Harmonix create this, if anyone else thinks this expansion pack is awesome then please comment. I would be willing to pay good money for this. Like add 10 exclusive “Hall of Fame” expansion pack songs and sell the package for $39.99 I think it’s more than fair. Here are the songs you should add to the exclusive expansion pack (suggestion):
1. Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
2. Sancho by Sublime
3. Bombtrack by Rage Against the Machine
4. Loser by Beck
5. Eruption by Van Halen
6. Hotel California by the Eagles
7. Blister in the sun by Violent Fems
8. Here I go again by White Snake
9. Voodoo Chile by SVR or Hendrix
And number 10 is the ultimate song… National Anthem by Jimi Hendrix. This song should have about 5,000 notes with power boosts available every couple phrases if played right. Since this song is guitar only have it as a bonus song track 11. So the real track ten would be Helter Skelter by the Beatles.
If there is a god of rock this expansion pack will be available by April 2008 since that is my birthday. If Harmonix decides to do this I release all rights to this idea… plagiarize, copy, duplicate it, whatever just get it out! Rock on!
