View Full Version : If you could have an entire ALBUM in Rock Band, which one would it be?

Topic says it all. If you could play through an album start to finish without leaving any songs out, which one would it be?
For me, it would be, without a doubt, Wish You Were Here. Aside from already being my favorite album ever, it holds a nice combination of instruments throughout, so nobody would end up being bored for very long.

that's a hard one actually. but i'm going to go with the human abstract's "Nocturne". All the songs show immense skill in every instrument.

can mezmerize/hypnotize be counted as one album??? if so then that would be the one i pick bc of SOADs ability to change completely from one song to the next. If not i would pick Cheshire Cat bc all the songs on there except romeo and rebecca (for the verse only) are quite fast paced and would be excellent on RB

The Arockalypse Special Edition by Lordi.
"Supermonstar( The Anthem of the Phantoms)" is the guitarists highlight(solo is a beuty).
"Would You Love A Monsterman (2006 Version)" would be the singers highlight.
"Bringing Back The Balls To Rock" has pretty frantic drumming.
"Evilove" has really solid bass, but all the songs do, so really, it's your pick.
There are 14 songs all in all, the shortist being 3:03
See you in the spotlight!

I'd have to go with Dark Side of The Moon. The obivious reason being that it's one of my favorite albums ever. Meddle might be a good choice also, but One Of These Days might be really hard to play.
Also, good on you for Wish You Were Here.

I love that album, but since three of its tracks are instrumentals, it's a bad choice for RB (although doing the vocals for Great Gig in the Sky would kick ass)
I personally think Animals would be the best Floyd album for Rock Band. Just think how good Dogs would be.

The played out songs are kinda cliche but the hidden gems like Rocket Queen, You're Crazy, and Mr Brownstone would add a little fun along with the standard GNR hits.

Aye, I would've chosen Dark Side, but there's at least one track where only the drums would be going (On the Run). Any Colour You Like would be kick-ass, though.
I dunno, I just never liked Animals as much as the others. It always seemed more "bland" to me, it just lacked the life of the previous two. Although, I have to give you this, performing the vocal-fade-into-synthesizer on Sheep would be one of the coolest moments in the game for the vocals.
Oh, and I would much rather have Led Zeppelin II. IV was really good, but II is just filled with rawk.

I could give you a few
Drist-Orchids And Ammunition(except Before The Blackouts because there is no music just static.)
Megadeth-United Abominations(Like 4 guitar solos in every song, only one song under 4 minutes.)
AC-DC-Back In Black(Because it's awesome)
Guns N' Roses-Use Your Illusion 2(You know I was going to put them in there.)
Better Luck Next Time-Third Times A Charm(Fast-Paced, electrifying instrumentals and vocals.)

Even as a punker, I've never really got into Dead Kennedys... or the Ramones or most of the old stuff, for that matter. The Misfits are as far back as I go... with The Vandals, Boucing Souls, and Rancid following.
Call me weird, but 2 minute songs with the same 3 power chords over and over again with monotonous, meaningless lyrics get old... even to punks. And they certainly don't transfer well to this medium

I can't believe no one has said Deep Purple's "Machine Head." You get "Smoke on the Water," "Space Truckin'," and "Highway Star" on that album.

@SirAnonymous: I strongly second DSOTM for the plain reason that it's teh bestest album evar!!!1!
WYWH is great too.
However, neither is suited for RB. On DSOTM you have tracks like Great Gig i/t Sky which would be awesome to do vocals on, but besides vocals only has bass and a bit of drums.
On WYWH, the album starts with the lovely Shine on You Crazy Diamond, but none of the RB instruments come into that for the first two minutes - and even then it's only the guitar until around 4:30 when bass & drum come in (never mind the vocals, which start at ~8:40).
In fact, I fear many Floyd tracks fall in the not-enough-vocals-for-RB category... We'll have to wait for Prog Rock Band, with the 3 stacked keyboard controllers :D

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond" you could probably trim down the first 4 minutes until the signature guitar riff. As for Dark Side of the Moon, you could probably remove all the instrumental tracks (On the Run, The Great Gig in the Sky, Any Colour You Like) for the purposes of this game. I think that could make things work...

Most of the ones I'd pick would have to be trimmed due to instrumentals or odd-ball tracks, like most Tool albums and Pink Floyd. But, now that we know that in addition to full albums, such as Who's Next, they're also going to do career-spanning song lists, like they're doing for Metallica, then anyone if fair game. Oh lord...I fear the things I would do to get a 40 song Tool pack. Or floyd too.
But, if I had to pick one single album to play, front to back, it's gotta be Pearl Jam, Ten. So much good.

Metallica- And Justice for All
The Blackening - awesome choice. It's amazing to think that the people who made Supercharger could throw out something as astounding as this.
I adore Blackwater Park but there are many lengthy acoustic sections that could grow boring after a few plays. That being said, select tracks from the album would be awesome. It might be difficult choosing whether to include bass or the second electric guitar track. The bass is varied and interesting, but those dual solos are perhaps too good to miss out on?
I also agree with one of the other poster's choice of United Abominations. That album is packed.
From me, throw in perhaps something by Killswitch Engage? They're pretty versatile. Not sure which album. I can't remember but there may be some intermission/mellow/acoustic tracks - I suppose they could be removed. I'd put more effort into reviewing them if I thought it would matter. Let the "Music Advisory Board" sort all of this out!

You're wrong. Battle of Evermore would be really fun, and Black Dog might be overrated, but it isn't bad.
Also, even though I don't really like the song, Four Sticks would kick ass for drums.
But still, Stairway to Heaven, Misty Mountain Hop, and When the Levee Breaks are all songs that wouldn't fit the instruments well, so the album as a whole isn't a great choice.
Led Zeppelin II and Houses of the Holy ftw.
PS. Wheels of Fire would be a better choice for Cream imo.

The guy that complains that very song is overplayed and hates every popular song claims Rock and Roll is the best song on Led Zeppelin IV.
Stairway, Black Dog, Going to California and Rock and Roll are all great songs, though I forget all the other songs on the album right now.
Battle of Evermore (which is my personal favorite from the album), When the Levee Breaks, Misty Mountain Hop, and Four Sticks.

Protest the Hero - Kezia. That is all. In fact, just make a game that's just like Rock Band, except call it "Protest the Hero: THE GAME" and have Kezia be the only soundtrack. Hey, I'd buy it. And if you've never heard of Protest the Hero, YouTube them.

For a Pearl Jam album, I think Vs. would be better than Ten.
As much as I love Pink Floyd, an entire album of theirs seems unlikely. (Instead, do induvidual songs: i.e.: Have a Cigar, Time, etc.)
Roll the Bones by Rush would be fun.

I think if half these albums got put in there, with the amount of rage they'd put out, we'd be in a blood frenzy only matched by a 24-hour marathon of "300". Not that I'm against blood frenzies but I doubt I'd make it to "Rock Band 2: Rock Bander" with the cops shooting me and all. I'd have to say either Vincent Black Shadow's "Fear in the Water" or Silversun Pickup's "Carnivas". VBS is ska enough for me to not punch a hole through my cat, at least until I listen to the lyrics. "Carnivas" would be more of a cool-down piece... a depressing-yet-happy piece, but yeah.

Plenty of different styles on the album, plenty of hard and easy going songs, and the instruments would work well in most of the songs. I'd like to see it in Rock Band if nothing else to see the "actual" band on stage; fake band in a fake guitar game=meta goodness.

Images and words- dream theater.
John Petrucci Is the sickest guitarist and you would be hard pressed to play 64th notes.
mike portnoy's drums would destroy you.
john myungs bass lines are really hard as well
last but not least James LaBrie's vocals are really high pitched and you could not hit them.
Long story short - NO one would be able to beat these songs on the hardest difficulty.

Hahaha! Great pick! Could you imagine yourself 5-starring, or for that matter, BEATING "This Dying Soul" on expert? An 11-minute barrage of notes. It would become "Jordan" extended 3 times. But then again, there is "Stream of Consciousness". Should we intsrumentalists just don't give a damn about the singers and give it all we got, but after all, it's called Rock Band.
The albums that doesn't include instrumentals are "Images and Words", "Octavarium" and "Systematic Chaos". My personal pick would be either IAW or "Octavarium". I mean, to play the title track of the latter would be awesome, since it's 24 minutes long. And no, it's not a 24-minute barrage, but it certainly blisters here and there. But IAW has both "Pull Me Under" and "Metropolis pt.1". Difficult.

i know this is kinda unfair but seeings how its hard to narrow it down, i'm gonna do a top ten albumns.
system of a down - toxicity
disturbed - ten thousand fists (including bonus track "monster")
slipknot - Vol.3 - The Subliminal Verses
megadeth - greatist hits
queens of the stone age - songs for the deaf
TooL - lateralus (or 10,000 days)
nine inch nails - with teeth
static-x - shadow zone
alient ant farm - anthology
machine head - through the ashes of empires
most of these albumns would work well from start to finish but even some single songs like "toxicity" or "grudge" (tool) would stand out as play through favs.
P.S. Glad to see "go with the flow" on the games songlist, brilliant choice to get the adrenaline pumping

Seeing as 90% of the latest responses are modern albums (which I really don't like, and wouldn't want to see in the game) I'll throw out some classics here:
"Quadrophenia" by The Who
"Painkiller" by Judas Preist
"Are You Experienced?" by The Jimmi Hendrix Experience
"Queen II" by Queen
"Crest Of A Knave" by Jethro Tull
"Back In Black" by AC/DC
"Edge Of The World" by Glenn Tipton, Cozy Powell and John Entwistle
"Break Like The Wind" by Spinal Tap (A variety of styles on this album)
"Heaven and Hull" by Mick Ronson
"Last Of The Independents" by The Pretenders
I'll stop there because I could probably go on for quite some time.
What I'd like to see, but only for it's vocal aspects (there's not much else in the song that will be provided in RB other than some generic drums and bass) is the song "Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)" by Elton John. Like I said, it'd have to be a vocal only song. But the vocals are so great, I'd love to have a go at it

BOSTON - Third Stage (good luck on the vocals, everyone!) :p
So you'd have to skip "The Launch", but to play (and sing) Hollyann at the end would be worth it.

This is an easy one!
There are 5 albums I'd love to see added to RB:
1) "Quadrophenia" By The Who (Amazing Drums and Bass, Great Guitars and Vocals make this the quintesential Who album!)
2) "London Calling" By The Clash (Who wouldn't love to just belt out some good old fashioned Punk Rock without worrying too much about carrying a tune? These songs weren't about musical ability (although The Clash were really starting to develop that at this point) it was about the message in the songs. Many of which still hold true today!)
3) "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" By Iron Maiden (Easily one of the IM's best albums and contains some top notch playing, especially on "Infinite Dreams")
4) Use Your Illusion I By Guns 'N Roses (Great Album!)
5) Use Your Illusion II By Guns 'N Roses (Again, just great!)

The 80s died with your tracklist.
Considering your post here (http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=4520), it's not surprising that you have horrible, horrible taste in music.

Another thing TheBends, if that's the worst Blue Oyster Cult album then what do you think is a good Blue Oyster Cult? I love to see why since you decided to pick my post out of all posts in this thread. This thread is about posting your personal preferences. I wouldn't pick apart your bands if you posted them up here.

3) Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall

5) Beatles - White Album
6) Van Halen - I, 1984

Well, one of my guilty pleasures is an unexplainable love of System of a Down, so as much as I love Steal this Album, i think i would prefer some Toxicity instead. Id be ok with any of them really, though I dont think Mesmerize/Hypnotize would be quite as much fun.

4) Metallica - Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, ...And Justice For All, Black Album.

"Orion" might be a bit dull for the singer, though. :p

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
The timeless, essential industrial rock album; raw, elaborate and infectious from beginning to end

I would say that the Album i would want the most would be Train of Thought by Dream Theater. If you have ever heard of it you should know what i'm talking about. The drum beats and guitar are amazing, as well as bass beats. It's overall a phenomenal album. It is progressive rock so it is really technical.
Meatwad12
09-24-2007, 05:11 PM
Images and words- dream theater.
John Petrucci Is the sickest guitarist and you would be hard pressed to play 64th notes.
mike portnoy's drums would destroy you.
john myungs bass lines are really hard as well
last but not least James LaBrie's vocals are really high pitched and you could not hit them.
Long story short - NO one would be able to beat these songs on the hardest difficulty.
Hell Yes dude! You know what good music is!

I can think of a few actually, albums that I could listen to their entirety and would work very well for Rock Band. If any or all of these came out as DLC I would buy the whole album without a second thought.
Nirvana - Nevermind
Pearl Jam - Ten
Foo Fighters - The Colour And The Shape
Blind Melon - Blind Melon
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Either By The Way or Stadium Arcadium
Roger_Thompson
09-24-2007, 06:42 PM
Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime
I totally agree with that choice. :D
Couple of others I'd pick:
Melissa - Mercyful Fate
Peace Sells... But Who's Buying - Megadeth
Stained Class - Judas Priest
Kurohana-Aiko
09-24-2007, 10:02 PM
I'd actually waste $ on MS Points if any of these were DLC:
White Pony Deftones
By the Way Red Hot Chili Peppers
Nevermind Nirvana (only because I don't know if that one was actually confirmed)
I can't decide between the next two though..
Without you I'm Nothing Placebo
