I think Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6AvHAdXz3A) would be awesome for a Maiden song.

I agree with some of your guys' choices, but here's my list that would kick ass (I'm more classic rock/90's alternative than metal or pop punk):
Black Crowes - Hard To Handle
Led Zeppelin - Over The Hills and Far Away
The Beatles - Helter Skelter
Bad Company - Feel Like Makin' Love
Boston - Long Time (Minus the Intro)
Bush - Everything Zen
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son (Vocals alone would be awesome)
Derek and the Dominoes - Layla
Full Devil Jacket - Wanna Be Martyr
Green Day - Blood, Sex and Booze
Incubus - A Certain Shade of Green, or Nice to Know You
Jonny Lang - Lie To Me
Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band - Blue on Black, True Lies, Slow Ride, or Ledbetter Heights (no vocals, but who cares)
Live - I Alone
The Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright
Pearl Jam - Even Flow, or Satan's Bed
Pink Floy - Have A Cigar
Rage Against the Machine - Know Your Enemy (this would be awesome), Tire Me, Wake Up, or Take The Power Back (mostly for the bass line)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Love Rollercoaster
Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
Silverchair - Tomorrow
Sevendust - Waffle
Steve Miller Band - Keep On Rockin' Me (more of a novelty, earlier song)
Stone Temple Pilots - Interstate Love Song or Plush
Tom Petty - Last Dance With Mary Jane
Allman Brothers Band - Midnight Rider
Billy Idol - Rebel Yell (Since they left it off Rocks the 80's)
Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well
Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride
The Guess Who - No Sugar Tonight
Yes - I've Seen All Good People
Blind Melon - No Rain
Los Lonely Boys - Heaven (kinda ***, but the guitar part is slick)
Seven Mary Three - Cumbersome
Soundgarden - Spoonman
Violent Femmes - Blister In The Sun
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child, Castles Made of Sand
This is just a basic idea. I also agree with some of the ones thrown out there like Black Dog, and Teenage Wasteland. Also, the songs that they've announced so far are pretty sweet. I'm most pumped about Mississippi Queen and Won't Get Fooled Again. Definitely looking forward to this game coming out. It will be it's own platform.

Oh cmon I'm sick and tired of ppl who say that less popular songs are better than more popular songs
Why are ppl choosing them songs then and they pwn
I would have Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Nightrain or You Could be Mine
and for Maiden it would be Run to the Hills or Can I Play with Madness
Now looking at your list, darkmaiden
and I love your choice of song from the Strokes, Muse and Metallica
But there are better Blink 182 songs like Stay Together for the Kids, First Date, What's My Age Again and All the Small Things
WingsOfSteel

I completley disagree. From a 'fun' factor its not as enjoyable playing songs you have never heard of. In Bloom is a grey area because I am a big Nirvana song so I know them both and both are great songs...but for example, on Guitar Hero II the song Jessica by the Allman Brothers...BLOWS! What a stupid song to put on a rock game like this. I think Rock Band should be loaded with songs that are main stream and popular. There is nothing worse then having to complete a song you absolutley despise LIKE JESSICA! can you tell I hate that song?

In Bloom is a popular Nirvana song anyway cause it has been made into a music video etc but I do agree with you that it is not as big as SLTS but it doesn't mean that Harmonix are choosing the less popular songs than popular ones

I think this list is a great list of SONGS but not for a game like this.... I think people will be more inclined to purchase this if they are well known songs. Not to say Magic Carpet Ride isn't well known BUT it is an old song....classic yes, but I think this kind of game calls for more.

Playing songs that you've never heard of is not fun. Plain and simple. When you hear a good/popular song on the radio you air guitar....thats a good song. If a song i don't know comes on, i'm not playing my air guitar.

I know what you mean, and maybe there should be more popular modern songs as well, but I just threw songs out there that have fun and interesting guitar riffs, or drum solos, or vocals, or a combination of those and are still popular combined with some songs that people haven't been exposed to as much. The first guitar hero was great because you imagine sitting there and rocking out to those songs when you hear them on the radio, and the second one was great because it mixed some of the more popular stuff with more obscure, harder-to-play songs that made the game interesting. My favorite song from the first was Jimi - Spanish Castle Magic (even without the lyrics) and from the second would be Brian Kahanek - Gemini. I also agree that i don't want a lot of songs out there that people never heard of just to rock out some crazy disgusting solo. I would rather have the songs that I hear on the radio from time to time where I can play them and rock out myself.
I think this Jakester dude needs to go cut himself and get it over with, he's so nonconformist. He's trying to be Mr. Elitist/I know everything/Slash/your musical tastes suck because they're popular kind of guy, which is pretty lame.

Marty Friedman is actually one of the most original, unknown, interesting type of guitar players out there. He's not as well known because he has mostly instrumentals.
None of us would have ever heard of Jimi Hendrix either if it weren't for just a bit of luck. He was discovered by Keith Richards' girlfriend and flown to London where he became huge. Marty Friedman just can't reach as large of an audience because he doesn't put words in his songs, just a whole lot of feeling.

isnt this whole thing supposed to be learning new songs and making them your new favorites? and then maybe they will becom popular and fun??? no?
WingsOfSteel
07-07-2007, 04:52 PM
Seriously, I'd never heard of Last Child, Strutter, or TIGRYT before GH2, and those were some of my favorite songs from that game. The song that I was most excited about (You Really Got Me) ended up being overshadowed by all the great new songs I was hearing for the first time. Sure, some sucked (*cough*Tattooed Love Boys*cough*), but a lot of them were great and if they were replaced by more popular ones by the same artist, would have been lame. Like, Walk This Way by Aerosmith is really repetitive, and Dust in the Wind by Kansas doesn't have a solo.
Also, Gemini was one of the best songs, period, and it was only a bonus song.
Don't get me wrong, lots of popular songs would be good in Guitar Hero (Wheel in the Sky by Journey and Peace of Mind by Boston are good examples) Still, there's probably an unknown song that would be even better, because there are so much more non-singles.

I havnt heard of half of the songs in both games and ended up buying albums from artists like "the sword" i never heard of before. Im going on everyones nerves since i first played freebird. Without GH2 i probably would have never appreciated this song like i do now!

I agree with you half way. We should definitely have songs on the game that are not so common so they get some exposure. But you have to have a good amount of songs that are very common. This will attract more people to the game that arent into music really and only know the basic rock classics.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean "go pik popular songs lol" You have to choose popular songs that are good all the way through. For example, Dude (Looks Like A Lady) is one of Aerosmith's biggest hits, but it would still work well for GH or Rock Band. Walk This Way is also a big Aerosmith hit, but the riff is repetitive, and it wouldn't work well in Rock Band.
Carry On Wayward Son and Sweet Child O' Mine were both big hits that worked well but with both bands, I know a few obscure songs that would have been even better.
