this may be a stupid question but i just got a 360 for xmas and rock band special edition. i see all of these songs that i can download with xbox live but what do i do to get them? i know this is a rookie question but this is the first time i have owned a console since my super nintendo and im slowly learning... thanks for the help!

any dlc (whether downloadble songs for RB2 or the map pack for Gears of War 2) that isnt marked free costs money.
you can purchase microsoft point cards at any video game store (Best Buy, Target, Wal Mart, etc) or online at xbox.com or right from the marketplace

Yeah, most of them cost money, But there are a few Free ones. You will have to dig through the songlists to find them but they are there. I think they are Still Alive, Promised Land, and Headphones On.
As for your other question. Get yourself some Microsoft points, and you can purchase them. You can do this with either a credit card, or by going down to your local electronic/games store and picking up a card. Then just ass the code to your XBL account.
Not too difficult.
