alright i was moving through solo tour drums on hard pretty well till i read a thread here. it talked about keeping your foot pressed on the pedal the duration of the song, and i have been doing the opposite with (i think) decent success.

so i tried doing it the other way and i'm doin terrible now. I can see how it really helps with the quick bass hits, but its really thrown my timing off.

does everyone on hard/expert play like this? i'm thinkin about goin double bass but i don't wanna throw myself off when i jump on a real set again (my sister plays and has been guiding me for about 3 months).

It took me a while to get used to keeping my foot held down all the time. But I got used to it, and it is definitely the way to go imo.
I used to play heel up and leave it up, but I was really inaccurate, and it threw off my hands when I stomped on it, especially during fast parts.

if u wanna learn to play a reall set to then goin double bass in the game would help u that much more to progressing yourself. just setup a double bass on ur real set too.

honestly? no. I play Drummania (at a harder level than any songs in RB) with 'terrible' bass technique (I stomp from about a foot above the pedal most of the time, and for sections that are too fast / complex for this technique, I tense my calf and poke down at the top end of the pedal with my toe, neither of which techniques are in anyone's How To Drum manual). And it works fine. It's inefficient and not good from a theoretical viewpoint, but it works, and if you're accustomed enough to your own 'bad' technique, trying to break it and learn 'good' technique will be a hell of a pain. I'd say stick with your technique if it's working for you. Only change it if you're convinced that your actual technique is dragging you down - not inability to follow a pattern or anything like that.
