Just got "Heroes" and "Moonage Daydream (!)". Not a fan of "Queen *****".

While not the hardest, definitely the most fun DLC. I love all three songs and FC'd all three songs.
Here's video for Heroes:

Ouch man, way to **** up with Moonage Daydream Harmonix. T_T
They should've known best it should've been a cover, the guitar could have been much less boring and much more awesome if they performed it like the live versions. The one good thing was Heroes, at least they attempted to properly capture Mick's playing. Queen ***** is such a random song though, if they were going to do that why no go with something much more better like The Width of A Circle?

Lord of the Rock Bands, I presume? :p
Back on Topic.
Even though Moonage Daydream looks enticing. I'm gonna pass for this for right now.
The Sabbath pack comes out next week right? I'm almost sure it does. That pack, I've been salivating for. This one, I'll dl later on in the upcoming months if I wanna play something 'new'.

I will buy Moonage Daydream but I'm not paying full price for cover versions.
Funny how the title of one of the songs would get you banned if it was your gamertag on Xbox Live....

Crap! The Black Sabbath pack is only cover versions?? What's the deal with that?
Did they lose their master tapes or something??

It's a little surprising that there are some covers mixed in there. I would of thought Bowie's masters would still be around.
As for Sabbath, all the Sabbath songs in GH have been covers, so I suspect their masters are lost.

I'm sure a few still exist but they are likely unusable for Rock band because of mixing.

Same here. I knew it was already, as my wife is a huge Bowie fan and I like this song a lot. I was concerned about the cover (he's not exactly an easy singer to capture the essence of), but I think this came off real well. Our foursome band is going to be rocking to this pretty hard come Christmas. :)

As someone else pointed out, having the masters is not always the problem. If the masters were mixed in a way that the drums, guitar, bass or singing cannot be separated from the other three instruments, then it can't be used for Rock Band. It's been pointed out before that on a lot of the Black Sabbath masters, the drums were downmixed and couldn't be parsed into a separate track, rendering them unusable. The same problem exists for a large amount of music recorded before the very late 70s/early 80s, regardless of how famous the artists were.

Totally nitpicky, but typically when they say that the "drums were downmixed" they mean that each of the microphones on the drums were downmixed into a single track. So it's not that the drums can't be separated from the other instruments, but that the drums can't be separated from themselves. For a Rock Band track, they use three drum tracks: right hand, left hand, and kick.
Otherwise, absolutely flawless explanation.

Thank you for correcting me. I am absolutely no musical engineer and was going off what someone else pointed out. :)

So, does anybody know if PS3 users will get the DLC today or Thursday? I'd assume Thursday, but you never know with a title this popular.

Well of course I meant 'fully seperated instument master tracks are probably no longer available" but that would have meant more typing, lol.
The Bowie stuff is surprising because the Ziggy Stardust tracks are clearly available. And he's remastered his entire catalogue relatively recently, I guess some of the albums just weren't kept the same way.

Edit: NM that post. I see what you mean with Suffragete City being a master in the game. But different studios can record things differently, and does Heroes predate Ziggy?

No, Heroes was done later IIRC. Queen ***** was on Hunky Dory and was before Ziggy.
Oh, and I bought the pack first thing this morning. I can't wait to play it later.

Oh, man... that alternating Y B section in the solo for Moonage Daydream is going to destroy me as it speeds up. I can't decide if I want the whole pack, I'm not too big on Queen *****.
Thanks for the post, Corporal Gregg. Hearing the quality of the covers helps a lot!

Downloaded the packs, immediately tried them out on vocals, Hard. Those are some of the toughest vocal challenges in the game--Queen ***** is really, really fun to sing. I'm 5 starring most of the Hard vocals; on these songs, I 3-starred Moonage Daydream and Queen *****, and just barely 4-starred Heroes.

One song pack to rule them all, one song pack to find them, one song pack to....alright, alright, enough with the LOTR references....:D
Does anybody know if the Bowie song pack is already in the PS store? I'm at work so I can't check.
Probably will have to wait until thursday....stupid sony!!

It wouldn't surprise me if it was just YouTube's audio compression. When that guitar medley was posted by whatever website it was and someone put it on YouTube you couldn't hear Bang Camaro mode when it was audible in the original video.

Yeah - that dissapointed me as well.
There's no crowd sing-along on any DLC (which for ROXANNE was a huge downer).
I'm pretty confident when you hit the level that a sing-a-long usually starts (green bar almost full) you get a generic crowd "woo" type sound that kind of SOUNDS like when someone is singing but doesnt know the right words, but then it fades.
There's always going to be something to complain about however, and I hope once HMX gets to a point where all the initial launch bugs are under control maybe they can patch all the DLC at once to have some sing-a-longs.

Wtf are you talking about? Moonage Daydream is a master track.
I do agree that the two covers aren't the greatest, and we're having a hell of a time with the singing on Heroes. Our resident singer isn't able to pass it, even though she's more than capable with most of the other songs so far.

Now, if we could only get "Life on Mars".

Actually the multitracks are never used in a remastering project, so that isn't true.
If it was a 'remix' that would be a different story..
