I have been reading the posts here recently. I too have had all kinds of problems since i bought this game. My strum bar broke, im getting a little lag on the MIC, and my drums were a lil off until i tweaked them. BUT IM HAVING FUN W/ THIS GAME.
I think we all need to realize that there is going to be some degree of calibration that needs to happen for everyone. Especially if you have any kind of FLATSCREEN HDTV. From what i have read so far everyones calibration will be different with one exception............EVERYONE IS HAVING TO CALIBRATE. Or atleast the majority of the people are having to. I know that in a perfect world everyone feels like they shouldnt have to do this, but think about if for just a sec. There are atleast 20 different brands of TVs out there, and who knows how many different types of TVs. LCD, PLASMA, DLP's on and on and on. Then there are TVs that are 1080, 720..........etc. Then you have all different types of refresh rates and lag reducers and motion blur technologies and.........GOOD LORD you guys see where im going with this. So if we think a company can make a perfect game that doesnt have to be tweaked for all these types of TV's then maybe are expectations are a little high. I mean atleaast they give us the option to Tweak the thing, think if they didnt!!!!!!
Sorry everyone if im going off a little, i guess im just getting this off my chest. Dont get me wrong i agree........and whish that things were a little smoother....BUT THEY ARENT so right now we just CALIBRATE and PLAY..........and hope that maybe next time around HMX pays a little bit more attention to detail.
Show of hands.................HOW MANY OF YOU ARE HAVING FUN!!!!!! B/C that's what matters and if you arent having fun............do something about it, return your game for a refund, or call EA and HMX and see what they can do. After all we are the consumer we have the power..........not them. If we dont like something.........you know how we let them know about it..........WE STOP BUYING until they fix it. We call customer service and raise HELL until they give us what we want!!!! Remember the power lies in the hands of the ppl who buy not the ppl who sell.

I was having fun until my guitar stopped working properly, and I started reading on this board about people's drum pedals snapping in half wondering when it's going to happen to me.
I haven't read all the posts but it seems like most of the major complaints are about defective or just plain poorly designed peripherals. I think it's great that HMX included the calibration tool...although I think maybe a calibration tutorial would have been in order. Also, maybe a way for you to test the calibration from within the tool would have been nice so we don't have to exit the tool, go to quickplay, check the lag, exit quickplay, back to the tool, etc etc...all with loading screens and/or autosaves making it take even longer.
Anyway, that was just a rant...but my main point is that I think most people are pissed about the crappy peripherals than the need to calibrate the game...I mean $170 and the tools you NEED to play the game are breaking within 1-2 days...that's just ridiculous.

Errr login, the major problem right now is not the calibration, it's the periphericals. They break too easily, they're made cheap. If yours are not broke yet, they will in a couple of days.

lightthrower,
Well my guitar already did break and believe me i wasnt happy about it im returning it. I do agree w/ you guys that we pay this much for this stuff to be having it break all the time.
Im anxiously awaiting my drums to go out and im sure they will at some point, i already have a slight problem with the occasional random miss beat on my red drum. We all know there are problems, but once again i will say that we have the power to do something. We can choose not to buy the crap they throw out there.
You see companies like this used to pride themselves in making quality products right out of the gate so that they didnt need to worry about replacing a bunch of stuff. They would use test groups or focus groups to test the equipment. This would let the company know how they can tweak the game and what is wrong with the equipment. Well now days in order to save a buck they choose not to use these groups and instead they use us as the guinne pigs to test there equipment. Well the results are exactly what we are seeing.
Dont get me wrong here guys im not happy im upset with this stuff. But guess what we are all still playing and we are all still buying !!!

The game is awesome. The instruments were made by 5th graders with a limited budget.

They claim they did great product testing. Obviously they tested for 1 day and said "lets ship in time for christmas and makes lots of money". If they tested for like 10 hours they would realize all this crap doesn't work and breaks. This game has been the biggest cock tease ever.

Not all the equipment is breaking. At the risk of jinxing myself I will just give the anecdotal evidence that my set has been working since day one and has had ample amount of play time, including some very aggressive players. I should post pictures of the bloody hands and broken sticks to prove it. This is a significant rate of failure, but I think it is much lower than these forums would make it appear.

I still have fun playing the drums, but I'd have alot more fun if I was able to play guitar too. Too bad it broke so soon.

I've got a kick pedal that never works, and a guitar that only works sometimes, and I'm fine with it.
This game was an incredibly ambitious idea. One of the questions at the start was how can you do this game without being prohibitively expensive? The pressure to keep retail prices low, combined with meeting a holiday ship date, I'm sure greatly contributed to what we're seeing now.
But we're also seeing a brilliantly done game. I don't think of it as a rhythm game, I think of it as a Band simulator. I haven't had a chance to make music in years, and I don't have the time to practice. But I can fire this game up with friends and recapture a little bit of what that feels like.
I just hope that EA/HMX does the right thing and works through the problems we're seeing, replacing/redesigning hardware as necessary. Even if it costs them some money now, they can make it up later in downloadable content. Let's just hope they're thinking long term, and not just the next quarter earnings.

Finnius,
I think that is a great statement. I couldnt agree more with what you said. Look this is a ground breaking game here. Its never been done so i think we all have to approach it with some sort of patience. I think its okay to blow off some steam, and complain. And sure we all spent our money and we are all having problems. Im having problems, but i guess what im trying to say is we are entering new territory we just have to hope that EA/HMX will work through these problems and learn from these mistakes whenever they come with the next version.
Until then we just keep rockin till the stuff breaks and then we send it back. Im kinda thinkn we may see some sort of an extension on their warranty, i mean they almost have to with the rate at which customers are having problems.
