RB2 (wii) Guitar Problem - Pause Button

The pause button (+) on my guitar doesn't seem to be working. I haven't noticed it until today because since I got RB2 5 days ago, I've been mainly using the drums...they work great, as does the mic. The guitar is definitely synced as the forward, back, frets, wammy, and strum work fine.

At the RB2 opening screen, I've tried pressing the "+" on the guitar to enter, but it never has worked...so I used my remote and could enter the game. I did all the guitar tutorials yesterday and other than the "+", the guitar works great. Well, when I went to set up my character and do a quickplay today, I couldn't continue because the "+" doesn't work.

I was curious if anyone has had this problem and if there is any sort of workaround. I'm guessing it is a hardware problem, but I thought I'd check here and see if anyone had any thoughts on this.

when i try to pause the game to go to the bathroom. the guitar lights blink and i have to turn off the game to get the guitar to work again. is there an easier way?
