So, I got up to Green Grass and High Tides on medium drums and hit a brick wall. My roommate and I just started in BWT now that he's home from the holidays. So, my question is this. I haven't unlocked the last tier of songs in my solo career. Can we unlock this by playing in BWT or do we need to go back to a solo career to beat it?

We really don't want to as we will be playing together 90% of the time.

i would suggest beating it in solo tour mode. it will open up all the songs in BWT right from the get go and a bunch more variety.

It would take much longer to try to unlock songs in BWT than in Solo. For each venue, you're given 2 songs, then a Mystery Setlist, and Create A Setlist. Those setlists vary, but chances that you'll get songs you haven't unlocked are rare. On create a setlist, you play whatever you want, as long as it's unlocked. Mystery you might get locked stuff, but most likely not.

My advice, play Solo Guitar Medium and unlocked everything. Easiest thing to do.

That's pretty dumb, I thought the whole point of the game was the World Tour mode and playing as a band. So why is it more difficult to unlock things as a band?

Because the game is hard. :)

It's not about difficulty, it's about focus. The focus is supposed to be on the band, not on the solo stuff. But if I don't do the solo stuff I'd only have 5-6 songs to play.

The idea that your solo tour has anything to do with your BWT band in terms of song unlocks is pretty... how shall I say nicely... out there.

So is the idea of BWT to unlock songs our just to play and gain fan's, points, ect? I am confused about which one is better to unlock songs. It seems to me once you unlock songs then the game should be close to over correct?

Make your singer female and name her Master of Unlocking and everything will be available right away.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: The primary focus of Rock Band is the BWT mode. While you can unlock every single song in all three solo modes (singer, guitarist, drummer) on every difficulty including DLC and bonus songs before you even make a band... that band still starts pretty much on the ground floor in terms of fans, stars, sets played, etc.

Honestly the make a setlist and the mystery setlist are done kinda wrong. Make a setlist should be songs that your BWT band has already done and mystery setlist should be out of a pool of your played songs plus a few "in the future." GGatHT as a mystery selection on your very first set is kinda rediculous.
