RB2 for Wii - Mic problem

Recently we've been having issues with the mic. The pitch arrow is not appearing nor does the percussion function work. The mic does sense when we are singing.

Something else that may be related - 2 or 3 times during a song eveything goes quite for 3-4 seconds. Can't hear any instruments. This seems to correspond with the vocals going into overdrive.

I've gone through the EA support phone tree and it sounds like I can get a new mic but would like to be sure the mic is actually the problem.

Suggestions?

We are having the same issues. No pitch arrow, no percussion function on mic and sometimes the sound goes off for a few seconds. We just got our Wii and Rock Band 2 for Christmas 2 weeks ago.
