1966 - The Who appear on the first BBC The Whole Scene Going

1967 - The Doors self titled debut album is released and will go on to hit #2 during a 121 week stay on the charts. Ironically the first single off the album Break On Through will fail to chart at all.

1973 - Blockbuster by Sweet, using one of the most familiar guitar riffs in rock(the same one in David Bowies The Jean Genie which sits at #2) is #1 in the UK for 5 weeks.

1976 - Long time friend, bodyguard, confidant and road manager for The Beatles Mal Evans is shot and killed by LA police when he refused to surrender his gun while police were responding to a domestic disturbance call.

1978 - Ted Nugent causes controversey when he signs his autograph on a fans arm with the tip of a Bowie knife.

1978 - The Ramone's Rockaway Beach is at #66 in the US

1983 - Ozzy's Speak of the Devil is #14 in the US

1985 - Following the cancellation of their U.S. tour, Hanoi Rocks plays two contracted gigs in Helsinki for a television broadcast on Europe-A-Go-Go, which they dedicate to the memory of their late drummer Razzle. Tommy Lee offers to play drums for them at the shows but it doesn’t work out. Former drummer of The Clash, Terry Chimes, plays the shows after rehearsing three or four times. With Vince Neil to face vehicular manslaughter charges for Razzle's death in a few days, it is rumoured that Hanoi Rocks vocalist Michael Monroe will replace Vince in Mötley if he is jailed for a considerable period of time. Crüe manager Doug Thaler reports that members of both bands have been commiserating the loss, while jamming and collaborating on four or five songs; however Hanoi Rocks members Mike Monroe and Andy McCoy just sit around the house of Nikki Sixx and Robbin Crosby for days on end, shooting cocaine and heroin as their way of dealing with the tragedy.

1986 - Aerosmith's Done With Mirrors is #36 in the US.

1987 - Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson is arrested in Texas for allegedley hitting someone with a microphone and then strangling him with the cord back in March 1985

1989 - The EP GnR Lies is #2 in the US and #22 in the UK

1991 - Motorhead's uncompromising consistency is rewarded as The One To Sing The Blues peaks at #45 in the UK while the parent album 1916 is #24. As the group celebrates it's 16th Anniversary Lemmy is quoted as saying "We've been going 4 years longer than the Third Reich."

1991 - ZZ Top is honored before a gig in Memphis for their help in raising money for The Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale

2000 - During his second day of tour rehearsals Tommy Lee thanks his fans as his Methods of Mayhem album moves up to number seventy one on the charts from number one hundred and twenty.

2007 - Pamela Anderson hits out at her recently-estranged husband Kid Rock following reports that he attempted to beat-up her former-husband Tommy Lee on New Year's Eve, calling his actions "completely childish threats." Rock was seething over rumours that Tommy and Pam were getting back together again, after reportedly spending Christmas together and being seen all over each other at their son's basketball game.
