View Full Version : Overdrive Mechanics in BWT

So yesterday I finally realized that I don't really understand how OD is working during a song.
Let me explain...
I have a 4x (guitar) and my friend has a 6x (bass), if we both use our OD, in the top right corner the band multiplier becomes 4x. Now, where I begin to lose my understanding is at this point, what happens, I see two multipliers, but neither seem to effect either in the UI - and I am at work so I can't test anything :(
A) Guitar becomes 8x, Bass becomes 10x
B) Guitar becomes 16x, Bass becomes 24x [The Correct Answer]
C) Guitar stays 4x, Bass stays 6x, if a note is missed the 1x multiplier is overridden by the band multiplier (4x).
Are any of these correct? I hope B is, but it feels like C is. A is just a guess really =P

As far as everything I've seen shows, B.

I think it's the band multiplier times the members multiplier.
so if i had a 2x and the band has a 2x, my personal is 4x

Option B is correct. This multiplicative effect makes having a guitarist and bassist playing at the lowest difficulty levels required by the challenge/mode and maintaining a multiplier important. Get them up to 4x/6x and have all four players activate Overdrive to supercharge that score.
I think it's the band multiplier times the members multiplier.

Although that's the same result you would get if they were additive too. Better to say if you had 4x and the band has 2x, your personal is 8x. :)

The overdrive multiplier for the band is take times your current personal multiplier. If you had a 4x band-wide multiplier and a 6x personal multiplier as bassist, the effective multiplier would be 24x.
The key part of "multiplier" is "multiply" :)
I see this asked a lot so I'll add it to the noob guide sticky.

Thanks, and everyone else I didn't quote for clarifying - I spent about 30 minutes looking for an answer and decided to post upon it, maybe someone else with the same question can find this thread :)

Or, if you're cool like your band, everyone has 24x or 36x

So, technically, in a four member band, you could get a multiplier as high as 8x, which means you'd be running at 32x for guitar, vocals, and drums, 48x for bass max. That would be ridiculous scoring. That would be 1200 points per bass note, 1600 per power chord for guitar.

Don't forget a lot of drum songs have 3 notes and same for guitar, 3 note chords sections are great! 2,400 points per note.
Now... is there any bass song with a 3 note chord?
Is there any guitar song with a 4 note chord (like in GH3)?
... that would be amazing =D

Given the title of this thread, this is an appropriate place to ask... In solo mode, if I activate vocal Overdrive, it doesn't decrease during phrases where there are no words. Is that the case in BWT? So, if I were to activate it during a long non-vocal solo like My Sharona, the entire band could get an additional bonus multiplier without me losing vocal Overdrive energy? Still waiting for Christmas to enjoy the game, but I wanted to plan some tactics out ahead of time. :)

No, in multiplayer energy is used all the time while overdrive is engaged. So, for example, the vocalist can trigger during a guitar solo to give the guitarist a boost, even though he is not singing.

One good unison Bonus with 3 players gets you to 4 stars on some songs!!!

Bah, clearly the developers outsmarted me. Well, nevertheless it can still be useful.
Also, is there any measure of how useful one person's OD is for keeping another person from bottoming out? Is the bonus to their band meter half as good as when you're feeding on your own energy, or what? Hopefully that made sense...

Pretty sure it is only score, not crowd meter cross-player OD. If someone is not doing well it's best to hoard OD on the chance they fail.

Not true... if someone else is failing and I activate OD, it will boost them up on the crowd meter.

Well feed me nails and call me Rusty. Learn something new every day. Are you sure? Hmm, confirmation required.

He is right on that - you can "save" band members from failing by using overdrive, it will boost them on the crowd meter. There's a couple songs where our bassist knows to start saving up overdrive when my solo approaches :p.

You can only activate it after an "overdrive fill", where you play anything you want but have to hit the green pad at the end (or red, if you're on lefty flip).
