View Full Version : Why does everyone think things can/will be fixed with a patch?

Make a patch for GH3 controllers to work.

Make a patch for single player BWT.

Make a patch to fix my strum bar.

Make a patch to to unlock Richard Simmons.

Come the **** on people! The devs may fix a few minor bugs, but they aren't going to keep sending patches to change their game.

I think they will for the Richard Simmons part. It's unfair if not everyone gets to play as Richard Simmons. In a rock band. In Rock Band.

Perhaps it's because they are actively and openly asking for feature and enhancement requests.

Well, the problem is that the first one is viable. The second one will take a while, but is possible. The other 2 are ridiculous. When attempting sarcasm, all parts should be ridiculous.

The first two are very possible. It's just a matter of whether they want to or not.

Welcome to PC gaming! no wait...

Patches give devs the option to change things that they may have spent hours in meetings figuring out the best solution for only to find after the games release, 95% of players want it the other way.

And if we don't ask for it, they'll never know how much players are frustrated or why they feel that way. They'll hear "yeah man, most people hate the way 'this' works in your game" and respond with "no one has ever said anything about it to us."

Granted, there are some things that shouldn't or won't or can't be patched (like some stuff being posted here) but for the stuff that would do well for patching, they need to know we desire it to be patched.

Get used to patch requests in the console gaming communities.

Yeah, if this is turning into PC gaming then we also need to get used to waiting a long time for patches. However, console devs also need to learn to be open and forthcoming with information like PC devs. Always stay in contact with your players.

I guess we're optimists? I think the software issues certainly can be addressed in a meaningful manner.

I thought I read that they are treating the game kind of like an MMO. Any MMO I've played come out with pretty feature intensive patches.

If nobody asks nothing will change/improve.

Thought its an extreme example, look at WoW. EVERY Tuesday is "patch/update day" (at least it was when I played). Constantly making it a better gaming experience.

Now no console game should ever need weekly patches or anything near what an MMO provides but its just an example to show that the opportunity to make a better gaming experience now exists for devs of console titles. Now in most cases (so far at least) console patches are for adding stuff, not fixing things. It just so happens this time around that RB could do well from some things being fixed rather than added.

No, they're really not. The features thread was created long ago, I think nobody's really cared to close it.

"Jesus, guys, why do you care about the quality of a product that you paid $170 for?"

I don't pay $15 a month to play Rock Band.

As a collective thing yea that would be a huge major patch.

But people want these changes to the game, whether is be guitar compatibility or fan cap.

the only way to achieve it is through a patch. makes sense to me.

I don't pay $15 a month to play Rock Band.

But I bet you'll be paying $5-10 a month for DLC. I already have.

It's not exactly the same model, because the money isn't paying for servers, but it's similar. And Harmonix has said multiple times that they see Rock Band as a platform, something with an extended lifespan.

For WoW, you're paying $15 a month for additional content and the right to play something that's more than a one-shot game. For Rock Band, you're paying $x a month for additional content in something that's been promised to be more than just a one-shot game.

They're pretty similar.

I hope no one is getting their hopes up for any of these additions. Unless there is something really game-breaking, they probably aren't going to patch in these things.

Look at GH3. The mono issue for the wii still hasn't been patched yet, neither have the quickplay problems (besides the 360).

I think people are happy that the idea of a "patch" fix is even available. If this was a PS1 CD or an NES cart there would't even be a modicum of hope of getting the changes they would like made.

The only thing I want to see patched is the glitch that occurs when a band mate fails while the drummer is in a fill. It basically wrecks the fill for the drummer.

All i want is to have a 2nd guitar for ps3 that works like the xbox 360 peeps..

My solution release the ps3 guitar now.. so i can order it for 60 instead of pay 130 on ebay..

Tons of gh3's ps3 versions for sale.. peeps bought thinking guitar was going to work.. Tons of xbox 360 versions on ebay and amazon overpriced because of inventory.. I walked into store and got a 360 version last week.. so not sure its that hard.. Craigslist peeps selling 360 version for 250+..

Anyhow Sony is loosing business over this..

Well we think it can be patched since there's
1. A precedent for patches.
2. A network cable hooked up to some sort of fairy world where patches are made by elves.
3. A hard drive waiting to eat up some niftier code.

We think it will happen... cuz I dunno, it could be better?

There was a patch the day this game was released. People release patches all the time.
