Assuming he is serious:
Strings replaced by buttons wouldn't make much sense. It just would be a glorified synthesizer.
Mark Knopfler... a nerd? He's one of the coolest nerds!
Assuming he is sarcastic:
Hahahahahaha... you fail at humor, dude.

By the use of the word smelly, I can tell this is fake.
And this...
"Real rockers who can actually play guitar, like Nickelback's Chad Kroeger"

I thought it was freaking hilarious. It would not have occurred to me that it was not satire. Maybe it would help if you read it aloud with an English accent...the Guardian is British, and they're really good at sounding snide.

There's no way thats serious. It's too bad that it's not really funny either.

Last year, for the first time ever, computer and video game sales might have outstripped music and DVD sales combined, helped in large part by games like Guitar Hero: World Tour, Rock Band 2, Wii Music, Rock Revolution, Boogie Star, Pop Star Guitar and Ultimate Band.
That's totally true, dood! I mean, like, the ones I bolded most definitely outsold the entire music industry and DVD's combined, but I'm not too sure about Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, or Wii Music; they were but subpar.
