View Full Version : Eager to Leave Band Quickplay

This is something I've noticed that kind of bothers me. When a player is doing worse than you or the other players in the band during Quickplay they leave the band. They'll get lower than 90% when everyone else gets above, come close to or actually fail a song, or they see other players playing at higher difficulties (and in some cases, lower difficulties), and then leave. It happens like 5 times in a row before finally a player joins who either plays Hard or Expert well, or (rarely) isn't worried about the points.
I didn't realize the scores mattered in Quickplay, personally it's a way to let me get to know people. You don't have to try and show off or play on the same difficulty as the other players - just play at the difficulty that's most comfortable for you. I've played for a solid hour with a group who played on Easy when I was on Expert, and I don't think any of us really cared, we were having fun and I thought that was the point.
If I'm playing vocals on Expert and getting 98%, and you're playing Medium and getting 85% and coming close to failing, I'm not going to get frustrated and think you're a terrible player. Heck, I play Guitar on Medium and Drums on Easy, however well you play is probably a lot better than what I can do. I just think you should try to play a few songs with someone before deciding if you want to stay in the group or find a new one.

This has been a problem since Counter-Strike. Just one of those online gaming annoyances.

Hm, I think most people would agree with you. Some of the most fun RB sessions I've had were where people were failing - or almost failing - out. Granted, there is a different dynamic in online play. I suppose I'm not sure what the point of playing online is if you're only there to play through every song flawlessly. Someone may as well play through a solo tour or solo quickplay if that was the expectation.
Thoughts?

well when i go online to play with people it's probably because I'm stuck on solo tour and want to just enjoy a few songs.

That's a good point. I'm a solid player but I wouldn't mind playing with people at medium/low level, and I imagine I'd be more annoyed at quitters than who fail. I wonder how others feel. With that said, I haven't gone online myself. When you host a section can you type a message stating what your goal is? And do scores from quickplay count on the leaderboard?

Unfortunately I play on PS3, and there's no way to communicate with other players... well, I can talk to them, but they can't talk back, so I prefer to keep my mouth shut, lol.

Being on the verge of failing adds a certain fun element I think. During my Thanksgiving party, our band of 3 expert players was able to carry our 6 year old cousin on the drums through a full song by strategically staggering all of our overdrive usage. It was a rather amusing challenge.
That example is a bit extreme, but there's fun in the risk/uncertainty element of a challenging song that you will have to fight through to pass.
