k i missed the boat on this one, as the West all stars have already been announced....
Eastern starters are ... (fan voting is the worst.)
G - Carey Price (MON)
D - Andrei Markov (MON)
D - Mike Komisarek (MON)
F - Alexei Kovalev (MON)
F - Sidney Crosby (PIT)
F - Evgeni Malkin (PIT)
so heres my picks for the extra Eastern squad...
G - Tim Thomas (BOS)
G - Henrik Lundqvist (NYR)
D - Zdeno Chara (BOS)
D - Mark Streit (NYI)
D - Thomas Kaberle (TOR)
D - Jay Bouwmeister (FLA)
F - Vincent Lecavalier (TB)
F - Jason Spezza (OTT)
F - Alexander Ovechkin (WAS)
F - Mike Richards (PHI)
F - Zach Parise (NJ)
F - Eric Staal (CAR)
F - Thomas Vanek (BUF)
F - Ilya Kovalchuk (ATL)
F - Marc Savard (BOS)
1 guy to represent every team, Boston gets 3. Savard n Thomas were robbed of getting on last year, so with the seasons theyre having, theyre gonna have to ake it this year IMO, and theres no way they aint putting Chara in the game.. Kubina might make it in place of Kaberle... and i think Spezza has been the best for the struggling Sens this year. Itll definately go to one of their big 3.
if anyone cares, whatcha's think about the Western picks?

Did they change the rules on having a player from each team having to be on the All-Star Team? I know it used to not be that way. In any case, I agree with your list.

As a Hab fan, I absolutely hate this fan voting crap. They should also consider not making it mandatory to have one representative per team.

every team from the west is represented, aside from the starters, the 2 teasm with doubled up players are the red wings (datsyuk & lidstrom) and san jose (thorton & boyle)
like cmon! Patrick Marleau didnt even make the team, with the season he's having, thats robbery. Toews isnt even having a good year, he doesnt deserve to make it, but he got fan voted on. Maybe Kane will still be injured and they can call Marleau up.
EDIT: i think there should be one player from each team. but the way the fans in certain cities vote like wildfires, that restricts a lot of the '2nd best' players from many teams from making it. Gagne from Philly should make it, but i dunno if he will. every team in the league has a player deserving of the all star game.

Crosby n Ovechkin arent on the same team though?
and if u didnt mean that, the problem with Crosby is that hes way too inconsistant.. and a wimp. and doesnt make the people around him THAT much better, he couldnt get going with Satan & Fedetenko on his line, but if u team him up with Malkin, thats the hottest line in hockey.
and the caps havent lost many games with OV out of their lineup this year :D

Yeah, fan voting's always been more of a popularity contest than anything else. Interesting that every team in the West is represented. I know that every team used to not have to be represented in the All-Star Game. Being an Islanders fan, I was used to not having any representation in the All-Star Game.

That's true in all sports. It would be one thing if it could somehow be limited to knowledgeable fans, but since that wouldn't work, the starters should be voted on by the media (even when players vote, their selections aren't much better than the rube fans), and the alternates should be voted on by the fans.

but in this years case, its not a popularity contest. Alex Ovechkin, i would say, is the most popular player in the league. its impossible to not love the guy. and he didnt get boted on. in this years case, it all had to do with fan support in certain cities.... Anaheim, Chicago, Montreal and Pittsburgh are the onyl teams with representation in the starting lineup.... so its not popularity, it all had to do with a city supporting its team with massive amounts of dedicated voting.

...or montreal fans taking advantage of a lack of captcha on the original online forms and writing scripts to cast thousands of votes autonomously before the NHL finally closed that loophole. at the time, montreal was leading every single spot by a wide margin. it's one thing to be dedicated and vote a ton and encourage your fans to vote a ton, but it is another thing to cheat
