It is sad actually...I usually don't post this much but I'm very sick today and can't really do anything. However, that thread was not spam and IMO no more banal than half of the posts in General so I think I must be missing something here.

You may not think it was spam.. but reading it... it was a pretty pointless thread. If this forum was like GameDamage's forum, they should create a "The Tard Farm" on here.

The Tard Farm: Consists of Complete uderly pointless crap... The only things you cannot post are "Porn (including the grossout kind) and Threats of violence or destruction against members, mods, or the site." That's it. The forum also doesn't raise your post count. And the best part of it, it's unmoderated. well it is technically to watch for the stuff above... but that's it.

It depends on the thread really. If the conversation strays from the topic, well then it's off topic. If your thread has no topic, that's spam. If you had outlined some kind of rules or something or some kind of game for your other one, it probably wouldn't have gotten locked, but as is had even less point than the games threads. Come to think of it, your thread was pretty much just a duplicate of the Word Association thing, so if you really felt the need to post random words, they have a place for that.

Keep it clean and such.

I found that and set it, but Compose Message only has a drop down of friends for 'Recipient'.....any idea how to send a PM to a non-friend?

Things are a great deal more relaxed here; so long as you don't wander too far from the topic (and the thread actually has a topic), things tend to stay open. Barring the obvious ban on politics, naturally.

For the most part, conversational off topic threads dont stay long (IE: "OMG HI") and that's the content of the post. There actually was another link besides sean's post that had a more comprehensive list of rules - however the link is currently broken and its on the list to be fixed. Overall, its up to moderator choice to lock a thread. We typically do not delete threads unless they are pretty bad.

Game threads, we really dont mind. A lot of people like them, so why not. I personally dont like Meleeman's incessant poll threads about weezer, but whatever, I leave them open for the most part.

A sick day for me tends to involve immobility and weak painkillers, so I find it really easy to focus. Though the games get boring after so long, that's where the book comes in. Clancy franchises tend to be fast paced enough to keep from getting boring.

Unfortunately that wont be happening. Its ultimately up to mod's decision to leave a thread open or lock it. The official rules (like I said is currently broken right now) state that it is mod discression and mod interpretation of the rules. Anyway, this thread has run its course, you now know why your thread was closed and how things work here. I'm going to close this thread.

'General' does not mean 'Pointless'. It's a place to talk about stuff like other games, movies, news, art, hobbies... all that stuff. Proper discussions about things not related to RB.

If you wanna talk about random crap just go to mIRC chat room or something.
