View Full Version : Duran Duran

While I know that there was another Duran Duran suggestion post before, it went so off-topic I felt that it needed a new one. So here it is:

There are a few Duran Duran songs that I feel really should be included in Rock Band; while Andy Taylor isn't necessarily the best guitarist of all time, John Taylor and Roger Taylor are two of the best bassists and drummers of all time, respectively. I'm not saying that they are THE best, just that they're two of the best. But anyway, I digress. The songs that should definitely be in Rock Band are:

Rio
Planet Earth
Girls on Film

and, if possible,
Burning the Ground
Wild Boys
View to a Kill

Everyone automatically labels them as either "New Wave" or "Pop" which, in fact, they are both of those things, but they are also Rock, Alternative Rock (this is ROCK Band, isn't it?), and New Romantic (that genre didn't last long, but they were the best at it).
Rio and, subsequently, Burning the Ground, have two of the best bass parts in any song. Wild Boys has amazing drums, and Planet Earth, Girls on Film, and View to a Kill have amazing vocals, as well as being all around excellent songs. So I think that these would be good songs for DLC eventually.

I don't like a couple of the bands that have songs in Rock Band; that doesn't make them bad songs, it just means that you don't like it. You don't have to like something to admit that it's good

Define "Girl Band"

Yes, they do. That doesn't mean you have to like them, though. If you say something is bad just because you don't like it, that's just being closed-minded. And no matter what your preference is, Duran Duran is a good band. "View to a Kill" is the only James Bond theme song to hit number one on the charts. You say the band sucks. Well, why then is it that so many artists have named Duran Duran as having an influence on them. Hell, The Killers and Garbage, who have songs in Rock Band, have listed them as an influence. Jonathan Davis, the vocalist of Korn, was heavily influenced by them to get into music. You cannot possibly say they aren't good. While I will admit that Red Carpet Massacre and Astronaut weren't quite as good as their 80s albums, they're still pretty good.

Duran Duran is awesome. I would really like for them to be in. They were very good. We need some more New Wave (Which is a rock subgenre).

I'm down for some New Wave and Neo-New Wave.

Too bad it's mostly synth-heavy and guitarless.

I would LOVE a Keytar peripheral, though! :)

There's plently of Guitar heavy New Wave. You're talking about the stuff that leans more on the synthpop side.

I would pay for a Duran Duran pack, but I would rather hear the Taylor brothers stuff from Power Station or even John Taylor's solo stuff. However, I do like and own several DD CDs from back in the day.

That actually didn't hurt to type much either...:D

I agree. Duran Duran has some great music. Definately would have to go with Hungry Like the Wolf and you could go nuts on the drums on The Reflex and I like the guitar for Girls on Film.........

I would love to have some post-punk as well, like Talking Heads, Television, the Fall, Joy Division, Gang of Four.

I would Love to see some Duran Duran. I was sad there was nome on the GH 80's.

Slightly off Topic but A View To A kill made me think it would be cool to do James Bond themed Pack

With:

Toss my name in the "I would buy all Duran Duran DLC" group. So many great songs, I really don't care which ones they would pick, though I would primarily like to see their early stuff... mostly things from their first album and Rio (and not just the title track on the latter).
