View Full Version : Corrupted Wii Save File

Well I just finished an online tour, and it says:
Saving failed for an unknown reason. The storage device is not available.
And after rebooting (because game got freeze'd) it says:
Loading failed for an unknown reason. The save file is corrupted.
I can continue without saving, or overwrite the savefile.
What should I do? :(

I'm not super familiar with the Wii and data management, but, you might be able to back up the save file to an sd card. That way you could try both options and see what happens.
If you're able to save to an sd, posting the results back here would be good :)

The guy (PS3 owner) above me has NO IDEA what he is talking about.
The Wii will not let you transfer a WFC compatible game to an SD card at all. It has FCs and other info that cannot leave the Wii memory. Your save file is corrupted and you have to start over, plain and simple. Your system had an internal save error that caused the file to corrupt... This has been heard of by MANY Wii RB2 owners, and my only suggestion is to make sure you are at the main menu of RB2 before turning off or exiting the game.
May I also offer my deepest and most sincere apologies to you for this inconvenience. It has been my biggest fear to loose my save data on RB2 and everytime I hear of it happening to another Wiitard it bums me out. If you want, PM me and I'll help you make some progress (expert bass/guitar/vox/some drums).

Thanks for so politely and succinctly informing me and the OP. Much appreciated.

Your welcome! :-D
Read system specs before giving him false info and wasting his time. And if you DON'T KNOW, DON'T RESPOND.
Thank you.

Go easy on him. He's trying to help based on the very little information he has.
Not many people on these forums bother to help. At least he's trying.

I have gotten the corrupted save file issue. To resolve it I went to the options menu and manually saved. This worked fine as all my data was preserved and the auto-save feature worked normally again.

Hmm well, I copied the corrupted save file (passing through the NOCOPY protection with homebrew software) and it does less than 1 kilobyte... A normal save does approximately 10 megabytes. Roflmao.
From now on I'll backup my save frequently.

Killer, I'm glad someone has found a way to fix this disaster when you get the "save message of death".

You should have made it clear you were homebrew. That's part of the problem to begin with. At least you have a backup.

At the very least what I accomplished was getting someone who knows the system specs to respond, lol. The post had not been answered and I thought I'd give it a shot.

I respect you for that. Sorry if I seemed harsh, I've just wasted alot of personal time from responses of HD gamers who don't understand the Wii system specs and options. But hey, I showed up.... And you ended up being right too because sonic4ever has some homebrew to back up the files to begin with (even though the mod could be the source of the save problems). But yeah, the Wii is a Nazi with save files, especially with extremely large WFC file (Smash Bros.), which takes up about 1/6th of my availible "play space" and CANNOT BE MOVED! (%#$&ing Ninty)

Sounds like a solution is found. Partially, but it sucks that you cant back up saves that are connected with Wi-fi data, like this one. I guess Nintendo and or Harmonix should think of a way to make back ups, one way or another (thanks Blondie). So all we can do now to avoid corrupted save files is saving manually, when presented with a save error? I guess this should be made sticky or something. Atleast it's a (temporary) solution.

You can't backup the RB2 save file without homebrew. Just save carefully, and if ever presented with a save error, go to the game's option menu and save there before powering down.

Homebrews do not pose problems. They help.
Like copying the save you can't.
This corruption is just a proof that the RB2 autosave system, may be inperfect.

Well I got the corrupted save message today...
I finally got the stupid 900 stars for ESL2 and had posted a nice score on Panic Attack when it crapped out during an online quickplay. Game froze on the corrupt save message and when I restarted the Wii could not reload any of the data or overwrite with the manual save. So... had to start over from scratch. Bleh.

You get 420 Stars for ESL2... Not 900.
If that happened with the data I have right now I might go insane. Sry guys.

I believe that the poster meant that he/she had earned the 900 stars necessary to do the ESL2.

Oh, I didn't know it was unlocked at a star count. I always assumed it was just after the Immortals Challenge when you "beat the game" (credits roll) that it was unlocked. Good to know.

Sometimes this solution that Nitestorm found will not always work. Sometimes the game freezes on an error message or mid-save... And then you are royally F-ed.

aHH ME TOO! This happened to me two weekends ago (esl2 completed on drums!). I feverishly searched for a solution for about 4.5 hours. And the only thing I was able to do then ... was fix the sd card so I wouldnt have to re-download ALLL 96 of my dlc songs. But --- I am about 215 stars off of doing the esl2 again!! :)
......im sure you other esl2-beaters understand how naked it feels to go online without the badge of honor! ..and for a girl-drummer, its even worse.

The same thing has just happened to me. How did you "fix" the SD card? I haven't been finding much help.

I feel your pain. This happened to me today (also female). Lost my badge of honor, millions of fans... about to start all over again......Hope I still have all my FC's... shame on RB2 for causing this problem and shame on Wii for being so "sneaky" that we can't back up our own progress to a removable source.

It is important to note that RB2 on the Wii is not a very fantastic port. I have also had my data corrupted like so many others, but I think RB3 will be like the TBRB and LRB and be very handsomely ported. Nay, it should be said RB3 on Wii will see a nice parallel release with the 360 and PS3.
