View Full Version : Thoughts on Ranked Multiplayer

I played lots of GH3 ranked multiplayer, and the system definitely had it's share of flaws. I was hoping Rock Band would really improve on it, and while they did a few things right, I'm also rather frustrated with this.

On the plus side I LOVE the solo bonus w/guitar. For songs that have really easy verses/choruses (which this game has a few of), it's nice that nailing a solo can pull you ahead so that not ALWAYS just a contest of "who doesn't mess up once or twice." However, this leads me to my main gripe w/mplayer...

Song selection! The idea of random song selection is ALMOST good (guitar hero 3 hosts get to pick the only song if it's a one song set...lame...), but because this game doesn't revolve around guitar-based songs this works out terribly. I can 98-100% a majority of these songs on expert a majority of the time, and apparently a lot of other ppl can to. This does NOT lead to fun gameplay...

At least w/some easy songs like Weezer you have the solo that I mentioned above, but...c'mon! I lost 2 times in a row to the same person on really stupid songs (the clash and in bloom) because I missed 1 note or star powered SLIGHTLY off. Then I played him a song w/real guitar (The Outlaws) and it wasn't even close. It is EXTREMELY frustrating to lose to a person who is clearly worse than you on a song you probably both don't even want to play.

But really , losing isn't the big issue, it's simply the fact that these songs are NOT fun to play if you're halfway decent at GH/RB guitar...even on expert.

PLEASE narrow the song selection (at least for expert!), or give players a choice of tiers or somethings. I've stopped playing it because of how simply boring it is to play tier 1-4 songs, and I seem to play them a majority of the time.

The problem with choosing tiers is it narrows down the already small amount of people that play online mulitplayer on rock band. also the songs might get repetitive but i do like the idea
