PS3 locks up on Rock Band while playing songs

My 40 GB PS3 locks up on Rock Band (1 or 2) while playing songs. It does not lock up anywhere else, I've tried laying the PS3 on it's side and flat, I have a huge fan on it so it's not a heat issue. I have all the updates for the PS3 and RB2. Kinda upset that I've spent almost $200 on a game, and I can't play it for more then 4 songs. When it locks up it's like it's the controllers that lock up, the system still detects the disk and will eject and re-load, but I need to do a hard power off (back switch) to get the system running again.

Any ideas??

The same or similar thing is beginning to happen to me. Wondering how I should proceed to troubleshoot.

how old is your ps3? that might be part of the problem

You're sure you don't have it with any other game that requires the disc? Even if you play that title for an hour or so? It seems to me that the game has trouble reading the disc. And if it ain't your blue-ray drive (which happened to me), then it's the disc. Can you try another copy? From a friend or maybe rent it even?
