View Full Version : Left-over Ipod stuff

So I received an 80 Gig Ipod Video, 5th Generation, because it wouldn't turn on anymore. I opened it up, and looking at it, thought it was just the battery. So I bought a new battery, which ended up not working anyway. I tired and tried but to no avail. So I open it up a little deeper, and I find a burnt circuit. Turns out, I can't use the Ipod anymore :(
Well, I'm left with a battery (Which I can't return ), an LCD, a click wheel, an 80 Gig hard drive, and the earphone jack and the hold switch.:p

My question to all of you is:
Is there anything I could do to make something out of that? Maybe a portable hard drive? Or something of the sort? And is there anything I can do with the LCD?

I don't really care much about the click wheel, the earphone jack, and the hold switch, but if there's anything I can do with them, I'm open for suggestions. ;)

Also, I still have the casing of the Ipod :p.

Please help :)

You could sell the parts online, I think.

I might sell the earphone stuff and the click wheel, but I want to see if I can make anything from the other stuff.
Thanks for the reply:D

I thank all of you for your posts, and I do believe I will go with the TM-61

But seriously, is there anything I could do with them?
Or can someone point me to a website or something?

The parts are designed to only work together. I haven't heard of anyone making them do anything besides make an iPod. Your best bet is to sell them, there's a huge market of people looking for parts to fix their broken iPods that are out of warranty. If you sold each part individually on ebay, I bet you could make enough to buy a brand new one.

Edit: The going rates for parts from www.ifixit.com are as follows:
LCD: $50
Clickwheel: $10
80 GB HD: $180
Earphone/Hold switch: 30
Rear panel: $10
Front panel: $10

You probably won't get those prices for used parts, but even if you get only 50% of that, it's still $145. Not a bad deal

Hmmm...
Well now that you say, I might as well.
I might do a week of research, see if I can still do something though.
But $145? That's not bad.
Thanks for the (serious) reply :D
Will-o-wisp! Ha! I can't even find a Rapidash! XD
