ahahaha i cant believe this. im kinda upset but its more funny than anything at the moment. reason being, i was doing really well on and justice for all so im like "hey. im gonna film myself for the hell of it with my digital camera's video recorder (im #4 on the leaderboards so i figured i'd catch some magic in the making). so i get like 40% through justice and. well see for yourself
i guess i can get a replacement from EA or whoever makes this game. i will figure out how to put a return request in. hopefully i dont have to ship back all of the drums although i did save the original box
if EA lets me keep my pedal i may try to transform it into hybrid electric/real kick drum pedal. i kinda wanted to do that anyway but didnt wanna screw anything up

tape the end to your shoe and just tap it on the base. lol
After hearing so many problems about the pedal drum I'm a bit worried and I'll use the pedal without any shoes.I did the same with my GT Logitech steering wheel.

the spring i think is too tight on these pedals. for double kick stuff i have to press down really hard. to make sure both register. im talking obviously about the really fast double kick. if i can loosen the spring i wont have to beat down so hard on it. i have to put my whole leg into it sometimes. if i could get just like 1" of clearence and/or a looser spring i think i'd be good. but for now i'll just make sure i press down on the pedal at or before the spring.
also im looking and it appears that on an intact pedal, if you push all the way down till the rubber feet hit the base of the pedal, if you wanted to, you could put extra weight on it and break it because there is a clear 1/4" or so gap between the rest of the pedal and the base. IE the only part of the kick pedal that touches the base is the pivot point at the bottom, and the rubber feet. at the top. this leaves the rest of the pedal succeptable to stress in the middle. i may put something there myself so that there is a support "bridge" in the middle.
i hope harmonix is seriously looking at this weakness and will address it at some point. unless i make changes (that i shouldnt really HAVE to) they'll be sending me a new one again im sure. its only been 1 week

why would they delete? im not complaining and im not asking for tech support
i called EA and they're sending a replacement in 3 - 5 days. they wanted to send me a box, me return it, then they send the replacement when they get my broken one but that would take 2 weeks she said, so i gave her my CC # and they're shipping one right now and will charge me if i dont send back the broken one

they are going to put a pending charge of 100 on your card. if that matters to you. the lady told me 10 days for my new guitar without CC# didnt want 200 out of my account cuz my drums are broken out of box. Yay me.

but i just checked the tracking # and its already in the system not 30 minutes later. 2nd day air. i should have it on Friday, assuming they ship it out tomorrow. i'm impressed. i dont want it to break again and they give me sht about it. like i said i will play differently or something

Not trying to put blame on anyone...but were you stomping on the top of it without your heel on the floor?
I could see why it might break if you do that...because you are putting more pressure at the top of the pedal, potentially bending it a bit.
I've trained myself to "rock up" heel-to-toe the pedal with my foot intead of just pushing my foot down on the top of it.
Still, it should take more abuse than that.

I know when I was reading IGN's review they said this was one thing they were worried about because they broke pedals on the pre-production models and the newer ones didn't look "beefed up enough" in there opinion.
Hopefully it's just a fluke, you're the first person I've read that had this happen to them.

I'm just waiting for that to happen to mine. I've actually stopped playing this game almost completely because the instruments are so bad. All of my friends instruments are completely broken. And no, we aren't children (have been able to drink legally in the US for a while now) and we are actually all real musicians.

yeah i just recieved my rockband bundle for ps3 today, and rist thing i did was break out the drum kit, omg i had so much fun....i took a look at the bass pedal and for what its worth..i do think its a decent setup for people who arent slamming down on it using their entire leg but wear and tear happens ya know. but what i did was after reading all these complaints i started with just using socks or barefoot...rested my heel on the bottom piece just infront of the moving pedal part and used my ankle to push down on it...it maybe slow to get used to the fast songs but im sure with practice ill do fine....i was just thinking itll help to keep the pedal to last longer ^_^ also in another thread i read that some people were hooking up metal drum pedals that had a mono cord/connector and most times it worked. should maybe check that too.
erickOnasis412
11-27-2007, 06:11 PM
i have read that resting your heel on the bottom part doesn't really help..
i think it was on scorehero i read that at, but if you keep your heel on the ground and push on the bass pedal that way, it usually snaps near the bottom instead of the middle
the bottom line is the pedals are pretty poorly built.. all these people saying "just don't slam it so hard" - you don't understand that when you're playing on difficulties above Easy & Medium, it's pretty hard NOT to use so much force cuz there's a ton more kicks..
i haven't personally had a problem with the bass (knock on wood lol) but it's a fear of mine
and sorry to hear about the snapped pedal man.. it kindof sucks that you have it on video too cuz now everytime you watch it, every second before the 4 minute mark you can watch it and think to yourself "it works at this very moment" haha.. hope you get the new drum set as soon as possible though so you can get back to the game.. you looked like you were doing good on the video too

Agreed. Heel down ftw. Its a plastic pedal at the end of the day.

11-27-2007, 11:48 PM
I fear for my pedal now...
I use it just my socks on, but I'm a big dude with big feet. So I might put a little to much foot pressure into a kick and snap! That would def. ruin my weekend.
And it is hard not to slam your foot down to get a kick when you're on a harder difficulty. I've moved to hard (on some songs) and those double kicks you really have to be fast at.
MegaGoo
11-27-2007, 11:54 PM
yea i have to stomp down pretty hard because the kicks are too rapid not to. if the spring were less stiff, i think i could keep most of the action in the ankle but what i have to do for fast kicks is come down with my foot parallel to the floor with equal force both times
on a real kick drum pedal, the weight of the beaters makes the second kick easier, so most of the push the second time is in my ankle i think. we this that obviously isnt an option. its very awkward and leads to simple kick drum mistakes a lot.

This is something I'm worried about, ever since I saw this type of problem come up. I mean sure, when I play drums I'm very careful with them kick pedal, but let's say one day I have some friends over or decide to have a RockBand party and one of my friends gets a little to over excited on the drums? and then, *crack!* man!! I can just picture that nightmare!!:(
How long a warranty does this thing have anyway? I didn't even bother to check.

I will try to get some pictures up but here is what I did for my bass pedal. I took a couple of pieces of bass wood (i also build model airplanes). I laminated those pieces together, basically making my own plywood. I then took the wood along with fiberglass cloth and used epoxy to glue it to full length of the pedal. When it was all dry i sanded it to the shape of the pedal and then used grip tape (like used on a skateboard) to cover the top. This thing is very strong now and has a better "feel" just feels more solid.:D

Hey some people like fat chicks :).
Anyway, there is no way i'm playing without sneakes on. The pedal only needs a simple piece of metal down the middle to support the center and take pressure off of it. A lighter spring may also help.

I decided to go with metal (zinc). Aluminum is a bit too soft and wouldn't take enough strain off the plastic pedal for me

Mine is almost cracked all the way through.
I ordered a new 1 from the online web page, I didn;t give my CC # seeing that so many are having issues with timely shipping.
So now I'm not sure if I will get a replacement pedal, or an empty box to send mine back in.
If I get an empty box I might just try to fix it.
If I get anew pedal I'll probably modify to make sure this doesn;t happen again.
I gurantee anyone who's pedal hasn;t broekn yet, IT WILL!!!

I got told by customer service to maybe try it WITH a shoe on next time.. because mine broke when I was playing in socks and broke right where the arch of my foot is. (And I asked "How can I make this not happen again?)
In theory, it should be less likely to break with a shoe on because the shoe eliminates most of your arch so that pressure is being distributed more evenly across the pedal, and in theory, makes the pedal less likely to break.
But his broke with the shoe on.. so who knows.

mine broke just about even with the spring. this is because i come down on the pedal the same as you would a real pedal and the only way to do fast kick stuff that is called for in the songs i was playing (metallica ONLY up to that point).
like i said, the pedal flexes if you press down on it anywhere between the toe and heel. it is more likely to break just in front of the spring because that offers some support. if i would have taken the time to look at the design and the possibility of over-flexing and cracking, i would have lined the sides so that the pedal would make contact with some supports in the middle

Shoe or no shoe... it won't matter..... the fact of the matter is that the plastic is not rugged enough to withstand people stomping on it for long....
You can even watch the 'Designing the instruments' video on the Rock Band game.... there is a part where an HMX employee presses the pedal with his hand and you can see it flexing/bending.
Let me tell you something about plastic.... repeated bends become cracks. Cracks grow and become fractures or breaks.

if using a wha pedal you'd have to get one that has a spring in it. the traditional ones dont. morely does. but you'd have to wire a button underneath it. so any spring loaded pedal would work

Don't be silly. Holding up a 0.125 lbs piece of trim on a car is a *far cry* from being subjected to 4 dozen foot stomps per song day in and day out.
But if you really believe that double sided tape will hold up under all that stress, strain and sweat then go ahead and use your double-sided tape.... but you better buy a couple of rolls because you'll be repairing your pedal very often.

I think I'm gonna head down to Autozone/Parts Plus and see if I can't buy/modify a custom gas/brake pedal to work with my set. Shouldn't be too expensive.
