View Full Version : Pet Peeves

We all have pet peeves. The things that bug you to absolutely no end. They make you uncomfortable, annoy you, or make you cringe. What are some of yours? What is it that really grinds your gears?
Mine:
It really bothers me when people drive around aimlessly in a parking lot at a store (i.e. wal-mart) so they can find the closest parking spot to the store. If a store is busy, I just save the hassle and park near the back of the lot. This guarantees me a parking space and saves the time searching. So what if you have to walk an extra 200 feet?
I can't work when someone is standing over my shoulder.
Chewing gum with your mouth open.
Incorrect grammar. When typing, writing, or speaking. I correct people constantly.

People that have hard-ons for Guns 'N Rose or Nickleback.
People that say "OMG METALLICA IS TEH FACE OF GREED!"
Stupid people.

I cant stand people who eat with they're mouths wide open.

- Managers that micromanage everything. Wait, make that managers, period (good thing I've been rid of that problem for a couple of years now).
- Text / l33tspeak.
- Anti-intellectualism, the growing tendency to call people who have a different taste than you and/or just might be a wee bit smarter than you 'elitist', and the way more and more people seem to celebrate mediocrity and frown upon anyone who dares to rise above that (these issues have enough of a connection for me to be listed together).
- Related to the point above: the growing tendency of society to lower the bar instead of finding ways to help people meet it.
- People who want Rock Band dlc to be restricted to big chart hits, simply because they only 'want to play what they know'. What a nice way to punish people with a broader or different taste in music because of your narrow-mindedness. Guess what, I want to play what I know too, even if that's not what you know.
- People who don't like animals or see them only as some kind of resource.
That's probably the worst of them, in any order.

Douchebags that don't use their turn signals. I just want to make them crash Clive Owen status.
People who complain that their life sucks, yet do nothing about it and be sarcastic like they're clever.

Lex, I've got to agree on all of those. For the most part, much of the complaining on these forums is like one big pet peeve, which is why I never really have much reason to complain. Don't hate, I'm a manager. I'm only 18, but I bust my ass doing my job, but I'm a real laid back guy about it.

Agreed on both of these. I hate it when people don't signal. Like Clive Owen said...is it really so hard to move your finger an inch? AN INCH?! No, it's not.
I've got another one. When people complain about how some to do with technology isn't working. Example...phone, computer, internet, cable box, game console. It's technology, it's not going to work all the time. Deal with it.

No worries, my wife's in management too, so I know not all of them are asses. Too many of them are, though... although I'll admit my, erm, slight issues in dealing with self-proclaimed authority figures don't exactly help. I'll gladly take requests, but I don't take orders from anyone.

I've got a few that I don't mind sharing:
-Lack of communication: When people have access to e-mail and cell phones at all hours of the day, I hate the bull**** excuses folks make up when they don't get in touch with me about something. "I was too busy" is weak; everyone's busy, they just choose priorities. And how hard is it to leave a message or drop an email to the effect of, "sorry I can't talk right now, but I'll make an effort later!"
-Last-minute cancellations: Emergencies I can understand, but when friends cancel on me "because it's too cold" or "I just don't feel like going out", then I get upset.
Those being said, I try my best to treat people the way I want to be treated, and try my damnedest to avoid acting those ways to others.

I work at a movie theater. Most of the other managers I work with are college students like me/with me. Most of the managers have worked at movie theaters as floor staff too. The ones that are jerks are the ones that are kind of in their late 20s to early 30s and never worked as floor staff. They are jerks.

This and I'll add in two more; a forum related one and an unrelated one:
-People who are loud in public. If I'm going to be the center of attention, I want it to be for a good reason. If I'm with a group of people, say at dinner for example, and one of them is talking obnoxiously loud I get seriously annoyed. I feel like the whole world is staring at me cause of their loudness.
-People who don't bother to read stickies before clicking the New Thread button. PS3 DLC? Wii store? Many other useful things? All of the answers you seek are right in front of you. Take 5 seconds.

Things I've noticed, being in Israel with the same group for 4 months:
People who talk about how 'long' their hair has grown when in reality it's maybe grown an inch from their short-haired standard.
People who keep asking for the same thing every few seconds (my roommate being a particular offender, asking for reassurance on things I've already stated maybe five times)
People who like to force their musical tastes on others while not keeping open-minded themselves.
People that take things way too seriously.
People who call all metal 'death metal'
People who use the word 'like' as a comma.
People who can't respect others and others' property.
People who think every minute problem is the worst thing that's ever happened to him (my former roommate who was yelling how he would murder the laundry people because there was a stain on his shirt...)
I don't find nearly as many people annoying as this list makes it seem, though, haha.

In no particular order:
1. People chewing with their mouths open.
2. People with stupid character names on MMORPGs (Lollerskates of Rivendell, etc.)
3. 300 Fanboys (Terrible movie)
4. Authority figures
5. Like Der_Lex, people who put down intellectuals just because they're... intellectuals. Since when did knowing stuff become a crime?
6. People who have something against people who are enrolled at universities/colleges. Again, knowledge is a bad thing why?
7. Holier-than-thou religious types.
8. College Conservatives
9. People with a sheep mentality
10. People who ask me "Who's your favorite Rapper?" instead of "Who's your favorite band/artist?" Just because I live in the Hip-Hop/R&B/Rap generation doesn't mean I automatically like those genres.
11. Children, yes I know I was one, doesn't mean I have to like them.
12. People who piss themselves on the Bi-state bus.
13. Alpha Male types (See: Jocks, Gangstas, Frat Boys, Preps)
14. Homophobes
15. Xenophobes
16. Ethnocentrism
17. People who assume I'm a female because of my first name.
18. Anti-Women's Rights people

20. People who clap/shout at the characters during movies at the theater.
21. People who think video games and graphic novels aren't a type of "Art"

Daemius: making Runesmith's job easier since 2009! I'd also like to add:
1. PVPers who join an MMO's roleplaying server for the sole purpose of pissing RPers off. Why would you join an RP realm if you have no intention of participating, or at least respecting the server's rules?
2. Overused jokes, i.e. Chuck Norris, the Coldplay quip from The 40 Year Old Virgin. They were amusing the first time; not so much for the umpteenth iteration.
3. People who think sports games and FPSes are the only type of video games out there.
4. Bullies of any type.

1. People That Chew With Their Mouth Open
2. People that ride in my van and "Automatically" assume they are in control of music...
3. People that are Racist.
4. People that stare at my family (Mom & Dad are deaf/hard-of-hearing) and I have a mentally challenged cousin... It's kinda hard when Sign Language is the only thing that I can communicate with my parents outside of texting, and people look at you like you're doing the most terrible thing in the world.
5. Over-Religious People (Zealot? Is that whats its called?) Anyways that thinks their religion is the only way. I mean I believe in God & attend church regularly, but I am a very open person. Just the odds that it could be anything in the afterlife ya know? I know I'm contradicting myself, but like I said I'm a very open person.
6. People that cannot spell at all. I'm cool with a misspelled word here or there, but not the whole paragraph or whatever.
7. Red-Neck Idiots that act so freaking ridiculous. I hate living in Tennessee sometimes, but then again Tennessee is a real friendly state.
8. Skinny Girls that say they are "Fat"...I don't like to see bones. Ms. Skeleton
9. Managers that let their "power" go to their head, and don't respect any of their workers. Luckily I finally found a place that cares! Good old Papa Johns. Except for one manager, but I think he's being moved shortly. I hope so.

Pretty much everything already mentioned, but in addition:
People who think the equal rights movements means they can discriminate against males/whites.
People who are so hell-bent on discriminating against the homosexual community. Yay Prop-8 which passed here in California, it made a change to our state constitution which makes same-sex marriage illegal, denying legal rights to homosexual couples that come with the title of marriage, which are available to heterosexual couples. What a horrible piece of legislation.
People who don't know the difference between "your" and "you're," "are" and "our," "of" and "have," and "there," "their" and "they're." As well as not knowing when and when not to use an apostrophe.

- When you tell people to stop doing something, but because they think they're funny they keep going
- People who constantly have to prove they're better/smarter than you
- People who give up without trying in the first place
- Cheaters
- People who are incompetent
- People who think they're funny, but they're really aren't... and the fact that they don't even notice they're annoying
- Posers
- People who can't get the concept of Pac-Man or Dig Dug...
1 - I hate ignorant people that don't listen to music that isn't on Guitar Hero or Rock Band.
2 - I hate when people go to the bathroom and don't wash their hands.
3 - I hate people that respond with the comeback "No. you shut up!"
Those are my top three.

I dislike it when people smack their lips when they eat. Chewing should not have any lip involvement whatsoever (except to conceal the gnashing of teeth and food). The sound is annoying as well. This goes hand in hand with keeping the mouth closed when you eat.
Whatever happened to manners.

I have a very strange pet peeve, one is crooked teeth, it bugs the hell out of me. I don't know why, but it just does. Also stuck ups or anyone who thinks they're better than anyone else. I probally have more, but that's my top two.
