I cracked my pedal in half too! And a s a result lost my #1 slot for AJFA (I'm at 6 now I think). I was able to fix it, there was no point returning it for another pedal that would break. I was able to repair it by using some metal plates and super glue from True Value.
I have been having problems with blackened, but here's the secret. Get to know the song. I got the AJFA #1 slot on my second try. How? Because I already the knew the song... and I mean the drum beats to it. So if you want to rule at blackened, you need to listen to the song over and over and over, and keep playing it in practice mode. You will get it eventually.

It's a tricky little bass drum part.
If it were just a bit slower it might help.

edit: i beat it with 126k but it doesnt show up on the leaderboards. either way im with a buncha medium moders i think theyre all orange checks. do you gotta play twice to show up?
one fail, 5 minutes in practice mode on the main riff, Blackened expert beaten with 3stars lol.
if you slow the tune down to 50% it sounds like a 50's swing song or something.
basically, hyperspeed whiners cry more
THEONLYTOUGHPARTTOREADINTITIALLY (like that sentence) is the main riff part..
but thats just fast.
in the end star power is your friend, but i got the basis of the beat.. its just fast and i dont know the song very well and its one of my first times playing it.
but that main riff part is the only part that makes this song super impossible.. everything else was ok because there were easier grooves throughout the song.
surprisingly fun song.. still cant beat "wont get fooled again" though.. i think i got halfway through?

uninformed idiocy
People without skill (MJDoja) shouldn't be giving their opinions on hyperspeed, something they have no use for.

I don't call beating a song with 3 stars beating it, that's apparently where we differ; even 4 stars isn't really "beating" it.

Personally, I think star power is FAR more worse of a game breaker than hyperspeed; you can scrub through any song in the game by just not activating it on drums and letting it cover over sections, and getting double/triple the life back for each note is just stupid; i've thought this since Guitar Hero 1.
I'm totally for making Star Power nothing but a points multiplier, and it doesn't help out your life nor does it let you skip over notes; but unfortunately the huge mass of gamers who want everything handed to them on a plate and want to claim "we beat a song" with 2 stars using star power, would never give it up. (AKA, MJDoja)
Anyways, i'm done with this thread, just wanted to point out that MJDoja cleanly pointed out what AdamWill and I and others had been claiming for a while now, that people who don't want hyperspeed generally have no use for it as they're not playing it seriously.

Star power has 2 reasons. If you use it for points and don't need it to survive a song, well good for you. But don't get all high and mighty and tell people they aren't serious because they don't move the tab at 10,000,000% speed.

Agreed. People need to calm down about this not being the most competitive drum game ever and accept it for what it is. Some people need overdrive to pass a difficult Expert song, and then they feel proud when they do. Good for them, they should. Probably a good 50% of the non-drummers who play this game are never going to be able to even beat half of the drum songs on Expert. Some people need overdrive only to make their score insanely high when they already have a song on Expert down. They can feel proud about that high score too. No need to stomp all over someone else's accomplishments just because they're not finishing Expert drum songs with 98% accuracy yet.
The vast majority of people playing are not taking this game that seriously, and they're completely entitled to feel proud about passing a song on Expert, whether they had to carefully use overdrive to survive it, whether they passed it with two stars or four. The high and mighty attitude is completely unnecessary. If you can't handle the way the game works, feel free to voice your opinion or play another game, but it's completely rude to talk down to people who take the game on its own terms and are just happy about passing difficult songs.

Had to respond to this;
I've noted hundreds of times, even in my videos too, that i'm nowhere near the best. So does me saying that factually, *I am better* than someone else make me elitist? If it does, you need to check your worldview, honestly.

Um, do you even know what hyperspeed does? Just curious, because the way you reference it seems like you think it actually speeds up the song's rhythm.
I'm just saying, everyone goes on all high and mighty about how hyperspeed is "cheating" and it "makes the game easier", yet all of you are totally ok with star power, which essentially "makes the song easier"; to me, that's pretty backwards. I never said that people who need it are idiots or anything else; i was pointing out simply the above, and apparently people here decided to take that completely wrong and make it look like I was "taking things too serious" and was "being elitist".
I've said many times on this forum that I have nothing against people who aren't as good as me or people who are better than me; again, I was pointing out that what many people say about hyperspeed is rather hypocritical in light of star power/overdrive, and that the "no-hyperspeed" people are against us for wanting to have hyperspeed to "make it easier", yet for some reason it's bad to say that "star power" is bad, and that makes me elitist?
And yeah, if you don't need hyperspeed for songs, and if you misread song notes in slow mo (like MJDoja did in the last thread), you AREN'T playing at a serious level, i'm sorry. :( It's not bragging, it's not being elitist, it's just fact.

I see nothing wrong with hyperspeed. I never use it. I've used it a few times and thought it was cool, but it threw me off. I didn't give myself time to get used to it I guess. To put it as simple as it can be, you still have to hit all the notes while using hyperspeed and it doesn't change the speed of the song. It does not make the "song" easier. It just makes the note chart easier on the eyes by spacing it out. The only way to space it out is to speed it up in the process. That is why it's called hyperspeed.
It may be listed as a cheat but there really was never another place to put it since it's unlocked with a code. Using it does not disable leaderboards or achievements.

I'm saying your attitude against other people who don't the game nearly as serious as you is a little off.
Um, do you even know what hyperspeed does? Just curious, because the way you reference it seems like you think it actually speeds up the song's rhythm.
My reference was to the speed of the tabs, not the song.
I play guitar hero 3 on expert and I use hyperspeed. I understand how it works and that it does not speed up the song itself. Hyperspeed is an option in the game and whether or not people use it shouldn't invoke any judgement on their playing skill.

Playing 10 minutes a day on medium a day could be, in perspective, considered serious just as 10 hours a day - Expert - hyperspeed could be considered serious. I just don't think you can tell someone they don't take a game seriously based on your perspective of serious. Even if you don't think your talking down to anybody, that's how a lot of people will take it and that isn't all their fault.

i was never a fan of hyperspeed because it felt like the notes were off. plus it seemed like cheating. speeding it up and spacing them out so they're easier to read. my cousin is 12 and he can't play anything beyond medium without the help of hyperspeed. i've heard arguments on both sides, but to me, its comes down to this. Hyperspeed is a cheat, and what do cheats do? Make the game easier. So if you can 5 star something on expert, but only in hyperspeed, you probably shouldn't be bragging about it.

but really, if you can do a bit of the main riff without totally failing and get to the end of it, then you might as well call the song beaten (and never look back if youre smart.. jk). its tough when all you can do is turn the music up more and hope youre on the right beat. :D

To me, Star Power is a cheat, because you get to make the game easier.
I'm sorry, star power is as much of a "gamebreaker" as hyperspeed, that's undebateable.
I'm completely done for real now trying to say my point on this though, as it's pretty obvious that the overwhelming majority of people on this forum refuse to look at facts and ignore all of the intelligent, logical posts the pro-hyperspeed people are making, so there's really no point in arguing it anymore.
the cheap unresponsive pedal wont allow me or anyone to play most songs in expert mode. plus without double pedals the song doesnt make sense. they need to add an exspandtion pedal to this game. then we could play some '' real'' songs the way were supposed to. amagine playing '' shadow falls'' that would be heaven. ofcourse..... better pedals are required.

For lack of not wanting to start a new thread and not finding a suitable place to put this, this was the best I could find. I just wanted to say I finally beat Blackened!!! Wow. this was the only song I hadn't beat, so it was pretty exciting to beat it. Overall, I don't think its as tough as Run to the Hills, but it has that 1 section(which comes up 4 or 5 times) that (to me) was harder than any other 1 section of any other song(at least that I own). But it feels liberating now having beaten finally.
I just made a bass pedal basically using ~!~ The Lazy Man's Authentic Drum Pedal Mod! w/ Pics ~!~ as described here: http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2967
which I was able to put a lot more force behind(because it was a real pedal) which helped me hit the basses much faster.
That is all. I'm just excited

-drumming for a hobby on real drums
-college
-moderate electrician work
-film editing semi-professionally
-camerawork for television broadcasts
-traveling to other countries
-designing mods for defective drumsets
and in my spare time, I spend a few hours a week (less than 10 or so) playing Rock Band and making videos for Youtube.
Sorry that your assumption of "lots of words" means "lack of life", but i'm sure you'll get far in the whole "having a life" scenario with that. Come back when you've got a new insult like "you're fat" or "you're a nerd", ok?

Hyperspeed is for pu$$ies. My friend uses it in GH3 and that's the only reason he's been able to beat Through the Fire and flames, and once The devil went down to Georgia, the DLC version. I don't know how he beat that ever cuz he is horrible at solos, but whatever I guess. People say it's harder on hypersepeed but it isn't. Hyperspeed spaces all of the notes apart and you can see them better, you just can't see as many notes at once. If you can't read notes normally you shouldn't complain, that's one of the skills needed to play expert.

This is why you need hyperspeed. Songs like this. I really don't think anyone is going to argue that you "just memorize it" with the notes that scrunched up.
There aren't songs like that in RB yet: Blackened is close, but there will be eventually.

you need star power for the competitive aspect of the game. the impossible setlist songs should offer less star power since they are meant to be hard.
Hyperspeed is a cheat, but it doesnt really do ne thing except make the notes drop down with less time for you to visualize the upcoming notes.
oh yeah and sskitzzo you have a life, but it seems like you don't really have any freetime with all that work. quit some of those jobs so you can relax once and a while.

I don't see why anyone would be against the inclusion of hyperspeed in the game, especially if it was optional.

Don't suck... and practice the hard part in practice mode for an hour or so, and you'll get it. Not perfectly or anything though.

Two things.
1. I don't see why that should be necessary
2. That solution isn't very appealing to the casual player, which is who the hyperspeed-phobic attempt to represent

What is hyperspeed?
And how is it cheating?

This doesn't work at all: it's been proven that practice mode is bugged.
Try taking Electric Version into practice mode and doing the blue+yellow notes during the chorus: i guarentee you'll miss a truckload of yellow notes that you wouldn't normally.
Also, many other songs have bass pedal notes slightly off rhythm during practice mode (at 100% speed) when they're not in real play, notes won't register when they're clearly hit, etc.
