My bass pedal recently broke and thanks to my shop i fabricated a diamond plate reinforcement plate. As you might have already seen i am selling them for just 14.99 plus S&H on ebay!!
If you havn't broken yours yet, it is just a matter of time, and it is easier to screw the plate down before you pedal is broken!!
Most of you already have broken it, but no problem!!. just hold pedal together and screw on the plate and it will hold your once broken piece together, and keep it together!!.
Did i mention looks bad ass too??

only thing wrong with that design is that people have had their pedals snapping at the VERY bottom right at the hinge.. how would you fix that.

yea that was my exact issue that we talked about yesterday

We are currently testing with a longer plate and smaller screws that would hold the piece together at the bottom. from what i've found a lot of people have been breaking them right in the center, like me.

Might I suggest building one that wraps around the pivot point and under then bolts into itself? It's a tight space to try and do that but it MIGHT be possibly and help. That or make a hinge that screws into the heel of the thing that the metal pedal could hinge off of if people have broken it right at the pivot spot?
albinousrex
11-27-2007, 03:05 PM
that would be hard im guessing cause the metal doesnt pivot, to do that, you would need to metal plate to have its own hinge

yeah, I was about to hop on one but as soon as the issue about the pivot point was brought up I hesitated. However if a way came up to reinforce the area near the pivot point more then I am a definite buyer.
I hate having to play and constantly worry about whether the bass pedal is going to snap right under me

Dude, I have to give you some props. At a point in time where the boards are filled with a level of whining that brings lurkers such as myself out to mock various people, you're actually trying to hook people up with a fairly useful, if entrepreneurial, fixes.
Rock on.

I agree. So when is your strum bar/whammy bar/overdrive activator fix coming? ;)
You know, you should work for EA fixing their gear. :)

Yea, I just broke mine in half the other night. Been thinkin of doing the same idea, but I don't have a shop to do it :P
When you get that think working real well, I'll have to get one for sure. EA is sending me one for nothing so hopefully I don't break that one so quick

You people are pretty lazy if you won't spend the $5 it costs to make your own. Diamond plate is cheap as hell, I doubt it'd be hard to find some scrap you could use for FREE.

lazy...why???? Its the same thing as buying a new face plate for the guitars aint it?
Anyway my pedal isnt broken, i just like the look of the diamond plate, and if it prevents damage to my pedal...... double bonus.

My point is for $10 you can buy enough diamond plate to make 20 of these things. I could go to the metal shop here at school and they'd charge virtually nothing to cut them out. They'd charge even less if I made a CAD model they could use with the CNC machine. Or I could cut them out myself in 15 minutes or so apiece.
$15+ is a ripoff in my opinion. I'd say this guy probably has access to a CNC machine and cut out a handfull of these on some scrap at literally no cost to him. Why would you pay so much for something you can get for free (materials) plus a little effort (which is only slightly greater than installing the pedal anyway)?

YOU DON'T NEED A METAL SHOP TO CUT SHEET METAL. If you want to produce a whole lot for little or no cost, then yeah a shop will help. If you want to make one just for yourself, you wouldn't go to a shop.

well said.
i know i could n ever make one, you say its so easy, yea i could buy the metal sheet, i cannot cut it, i am very messy and cant get a good fit and truthfully, its not like hes selling them in bulk, they are retail and i think that 15 dollars is cheap. Much better than the other guy selling the same thing for 25

if you really want to nitpick, you might also mention that he charges $6 for shipping when the usps priority flat rate envelopes only cost $4.60 :p

the reason for the shipping being $1.40 more than the flat rate is because of the cost for bubble wrap and the gas to get to our postal office. for "ZERO" dollars, you can come pick it up yourself :)

Nice job! Still sucks we have to resort to something like this however. But atlease we have some crafty people who are willing to help where the developers fell short.

Though the price may be a bit high, I applaud the OP's drive to develop and sell such a product. As they say "necessity is the mother of invention"
I'd buy one if they looked a bit nicer (im not a fan of the diamond pattern) or were available in different colors. (Black, gray, etc.)

stop complaining. not everyone knows cad (i do though :) ) and not everyone has access to a fab shop or the tools to do it, or the desire to just start cutting metal w/ no training. dont forget buffing down the sharp corners. why would someone do all of that? why dont you post something about sony or xbox and complain that they over charge because they mass produce their parts and that people could make their own. and how its so easy for them to do it and just sit back and make a buck.
its called a business. you make something that people pay money for because a) they dont want to do it themselves, b) they dont know how to do it themselves, or c) their time is worth more than the cost of r&d, materials purchasing, learning how to operate tools, and risking injuring themselves

i would buy one, but EA is replacing my broken one. and i dont want to void warranty on my new one. i will look at making my own out of a real pedal, or applying small homemade fixes that can be reversable and not voiding of the warranty. like small blocks to fill the gap that is present when you press all the way down

The guy is trying to make a few bucks, good for him!! I hope he sells a lot of them, I might buy one myself.
Although, the pedal is so bad, its like putting salt on s*h*i*t.

Wow, this is impressive. I would assume not, but do you think the plate voids the warranty? My pedal hasn't actually broke yet, but is cracked from the bottom to almost midway. I went ahead and ordered a new one just in case - but this seems like a great (and aesthetically pleasing) method. Oh, and does it make the peadl harder to depress in any way?
Thanks!

We are assuming that it will void the warranty, but it doesn't matter anyway, our first pedal has been in constant use for over 30 hours and will never break. while it adds a small amount of weight to the pedal, it actually makes eaiser to depress.

My pedal snapped at the center.
I tried using some superglue at where it snapped at the center, and it did work for just one hour, but the glue didn't resist anymore and it broke again. In this case, the metal pedal should work out perfectly, keeping those two parts together.

This looks awesome, and I'd almost order one just to make my set look cool. If you're that good with metalworks, you should totally create diamond plate skins for the entire set and sell them as a bundle. Imagine what your kit would look like decked 100% in the stuff!

my pedal just doesnt respond at all, i gotta press the connection really hard and bend the wires a certain way to get a half ass response. garbage man...i called for a replacement so i hope my out of box defective part will not haunt me. just imagine playing the game to save the drummist, and not to jus have fun. everything else works fine, except for the pedal and the guitar, luckily i have 2 guitar hero guitars as well.
anyone else had this problem with the bass pedal just not responding at all?

actually, that's exactly what happened to us :)
except the superglue only held for a song. the plate works beautifully.

I got a cheap kick pedal laying around from my drum set, when my pedal breaks if it breaks I'm just gonna rig one up from that with a dummy pad for it to hit....it'd be more realistic feeling than the one included that pretty much feels like a electronic snare control pedal...which btw does work as a bass drum pedal on these kits, ya just need a adapter to change the plug size.

since the bass pedal is just using an on/off switch people are figuring out how to rig a 2nd pedal or replacement on their own. see:

Great idea!! I just placed my order as "Lazer80" for 1 of your pedal covers, my pedal has a crack in it, and now I am afraid to use it any longer until I get this to fix it.
Thanks for the fix, the price isn't that bad at all.
If they had 1 of these at the store i would go buy 1 right now for $20 with no problems at all.
I hope the shipping doesn't take to long.

Have they been sanded down to avoid injury? lol
