View Full Version : Refusal to play bass

Ever come across someone that refuses to give up lead? I know when I play I at least like to trade off, and will even skip my turn on a song if I might not do good but the other guy can play it better. I don't mind playing bass, but not for every song. Some people are just hard to work with though.

This one guy picked lead every time. I let that go about five times before I just started rapid firing on the green button during the loading screen to bump him out of lead. He played one song as bass and quit. I guess some people's egos can't properly be fed without a six string in their hands.

I love doing the bass part for a few reasons:

1) It's a nice change, and preferable to guitar on some songs (imo)
2) You can get your band a lot of points because of your multiplier
3) Bonus challenge of going for 100% upstrums
4) Bass groove and bass overdrive fretboards look really cool

When I do quickplay on Live I tend to do Bass (when I'm not singing, of course).

I tend to play guitar with my friends, only becuase I am better then them, so on songs where they may fail and stuff, it makes sense for me to play.
I haven't done it online, but if someone can halfway play guitar, I wouldn't mind giving it up. But If I have to save them all the time, that would get annoying.

Yeah, i've come across some people that wont let go of lead. And what pisses me off more is that they're vastly inferior to me. Damn them.

The solution is to set up a killer subwoofer that essentially gives your bass player command over the most powerful element of your sound system. Boom, problem solved.

Speaking of this...it happens to me all the time and it's annoying. How exactly does one go about joining a quickmatch and NOT being the leader? I am always the leader unless I'm invited by a buddy, but usually I hop online and hit find players, but I am the leader. How did these other people find me and hook up to my game? The reason I ask is because it seems if I'm on guitar as the leader I have ZERO control over what instrument I pick. I've even tried the continually mash on the green button trick, but I am always stuck with bass unless the other guy gives it up. I actually like playing bass but come on, after about 6 songs in a row I'm ready to hit the 6 string...especially when I'm watching some tool get 84% on Medium while I'm FC'ng songs on expert bass.

A sub woofer that kills people wired directly to the bass player's amp would definitely solve a lot of problems, yes.

Well, the only casualties for me so far are a couple of ceramic things that rattled off their shelves in the adjacent room, but still, that's good enough for killer in my book.

I don't know how it's decided who's the leader. Either way, it should let you pick which guitar you want to play. If you keep getting stuck with bass, the other guy's beating you to it.

I don't mind playing bass. Whenever I play online I wait awhile to let the other guitarist the chance to pick whether they want to play lead or bass. if they don't choose one within a cerrtain amount of time, I usually pick lead and play. I'll switch between lead and bass. If anybody plays with me and you want to play lead just pick it. I'll let you choose first. My Gamertag is the same as above.

This doesn't really surprise me (people are jerks), but at least it hasn't happened to me yet. I've only gone online once (to play with my buddy, a drummer). The first time we found a second guitarist, he was more than willing to alternate between lead and bass. When that guy dropped out, we found another guitarist who was even nicer than the first (he let me play lead twice in a row 'cause I had to leave after the second song anyway).

Which is to say, for every jerkwad there is on XBox Live, there's also some darn nice folks out there rocking out - you just have to find them.

You see, if you've played with me, you know I refuse to give up Bass.

Chords.. meh.

I play Bass in real life, and I love playing it in rock band. Bass Groove ftw.

I don't play online but I can see how that happens. Yesterday my friend came over, and we are decently far in the band world tour so he had to play medium. Well, we told him play Bass. And he loved it, cause it's easier than the guitar for a beginner.

But we switch it up whenever someone wants.

I'm usually playing the drums :-)

it doesn't matter if you both pick guitar (or who does it first) you can both select it and it will randomly assign one of you to the bass. I liike this design because it precisely gets over this argument.

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
If both players pick Guitar it picks randomly, so both players can pick Guitar if they prefer it and the game will force turns... The game doesn't make this very obvious but don't hate on people picking Guitar everytime, just do the same. Info courtesy Johnlok.

Ditto.

Just play Won't Get Fooled Again. The bass is WAY more interesting than the guitar

Eh, it doesn't really matter to me. I will do all aspects in RB. I actaully prefer guitar due to difficulty but will selected what isn't taken.

So, tell them it's a six-string bass instead. :D
