View Full Version : Your favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger film.

One of my favorite bands is Austrian Death Machine. Fast, solos in every song, and hilarious. ADM is Tim Labesis' (As I Lay Dying's frontman) side project. Tim and I have something in common...our love for Arnold Schwarzeneggar.

He has been the star of so many memorable movies, and some that might not have been so memorable. But whether he is a barbarian, killing the predator, terminating people, saving Mars, teaching 5 year olds, or even searching for the Turbo Man, we love him. Arnold has a memorable line from almost every one of his movies as well. I also did not write some of these synopsis'.

Let's go through some of his best roles, shall we?

***I know not every one of his movies is listed. There is the option "other" as well***

Conan The Barbarian (1982)

Arnold's first big role. Conan the Barbarian begins with Conan being enslaved by the Vanir raiders of Thulsa Doom, a malevolent warlord who is responsible for the slaying of Conan's parents and the genocide of his people. Later, Thulsa Doom becomes a cult leader of a shamanist religion that worships Set, a Snake God. The vengeful Conan, the archer Subotai and the thief Valeria set out on a quest to rescue a princess held captive by Thulsa Doom. The film was directed by John Milius and produced by Dino De Laurentiis. The character of Conan was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and was his break-through role as an actor. This one was followed up with the sequel Conan The Destroyer which was a less popular and more fantasy based role, still good though.

The Terminator (1984)

"I'll be back." So many people remember that phrase. We all know this one, not my favorite of the Terminator series, but great none the less. Arnold didn't say much as his role as The Terminator, but he didn't need to. His job was simple, terminate Sarah Connor and stop John Connor from ever being born, and kill anyone else that gets in his way...we all know that plan didn't work though. Arnold was great in it.

Commando (1985)

I feel this one didn't get enough credit. I love this one. Arnold is retired Colonel John Matrix. Matrix is living with his daughter, Jenny (young Alyssa Milano) in the country side. Jenny is kidnapped by Bennett, one of John's former soldiers. Bennet's boss, exiled Latin American dictator Arius, demands that John assassinate the president of Arius's country so Arius can reinstate himself as dictator. John is put on a southbound airplane with a guard, but before the airplane can take off, John snaps the guard's neck, jumps off of the airplane, and sets out to locate Jenny. While John is tracking down Arius and Bennett, John enlists the help of a young woman named Cindy. As John and Cindy close in on the island where Jenny is being held, they are confronted by hordes of men who work for Arius and Bennett. But John is willing to do anything to rescue Jenny...even if he has to start a one man World War III

Predator (1987)

"GET TO THE CHOPPA!" I've yelled it, and so have you, admit it. You won't forget that line. Arnold is Dutch. Dutch is the leader of an expert Army Commando team that has been sent to the deep jungle of Central America to rescue a team of downed airmen from the guerillas living there. They are not the problem though, something else has gotten to the airmen. There is something living in the trees. Something that is not visible to the naked eye. But...it's something that bleeds. And if it bleeds, we can kill it.

Kindergarten Cop (1990)

"Who is your daddy, and what does he do?" It makes me laugh every time. I love watching this movie. I thought it was so funny seeing this massive guy who played Matrix, Conan, Dutch, and The Terminator (all killing machines) playing the teacher. Arnold is Detective John Kimble. John Kimble is a tough city cop who's been on the trail of drug dealer Cullen Crisp for years. He finally tracks Crisp down but it seems the only person that can testify against him is his ex-wife. The problem is she's disappeared and all Kimble knows is the name of the school in Oregon where her son attends. When things don't quite go to plan, Kimble finds he has to go undercover on his toughest assignment yet - Kindergarten teacher!

Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)

"Come with me if you want to live" and "Hasta la vista, baby" were the two memorable lines from this one. This is my favorite of the series. Arnold is back as The Terminator. John Connor is now 10 years old, and Skynet is on the brink of unleashing hell onto the Earth. Skynet has found a way to send back Terminators from the year 2029. Arnold is a reprogrammed Terminator sent back to protect John Connor from the T1000, a more powerful Terminator. But the question is, can Sarah, John, and The Terminator survive and eliminate Judgement Day from ever happening?

Last Action Hero (1993)

"Rubber baby buggy bumpers. Didn't know I was going to say that, did you?" I love this movie. I watch it every time it's on. This is the story of young Danny Madigan who is a huge fan of Jack Slater, a larger-than-life action hero played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. When his best friend, Nick the projectionist, gives him a magic ticket to the newest Jack Slater film, Danny is transported into Slater's world, his number one hero where the good guys always win. It's a dream come true for Danny, but things take a turn for the worst when one of Slater's enemies, Benedict the hitman, gets a hold of the ticket and ends up in Danny's world, where he realizes that if he can kill Arnold Schwarzenegger, then Slater will be no more! Slater and Danny must join forces and travel back and stop him at all costs before it'll be the end of Jack Slater!

Jingle All The Way (1996)

"It's Turbo Time." I like this one too. I remember watching this one as a kid. It still gives me some good laughs. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Howard Langston, a father who has promised his son that he will get anything he wants for christmas. Unfortunately for Howard, his son wants an immensely popular "Turbo Man" action figure. Howard forgets to get it, and since it's Christmas Eve, it's sold out everywhere. Since Howard knows he has let his son down in the past, he goes on a quest to track down a "Turbo Man" action figure, and will stop at nothing to get his son the gift that he wants.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)

Arnold's last big film. More than 10 years after 'Terminator 2', John Connor now exists only as a drifter - living 'off the grid', so no more Terminators from the future can hunt him down. Unfortunately, SkyNet does send another one back - and this one is called the T-X, even more powerful & advanced than the dreaded T-1000. However, another CSM-101 Terminator is also sent back to protect John against the T-X. Now, Skynet is patiently assuming control of civilian computer systems, under the guise of a computer virus. John has also met his future wife, Kate Brewster, whose father - a U.S. Air Force General - is in charge of the military computer systems & is leery of up linking SkyNet. However, when the SkyNet virus infects the U.S military computers & leaves the country open to attack, the machines begin their horrific takeover. Soon a nuclear war will result - and the war against the machines will begin. Can the outdated CSM-101 Terminator eliminate the highly advanced T-X - or will a darker future await man following the nuclear attack?

I fell asleep through "True Lies" the first time I "saw" it (I was 6 or 7 at the time).

Yeah, my parents let me watch rated R movies at a young age. The only thing is, I never saw enough of them (I always fell asleep).

I went with The Terminator, mainly because it was the first Arnold flick I saw and I still remember squealing with glee everytime he would say "Uzi 9 millimeter", "F you, A-hole" or "I'll be back."

But Conan, The Running Man and Total Recall were some stiff competition.

Seriously, people should watch Batman and Robin as a campy B-movie. It's really good if one does so. I actually do wonder from time to time if it was meant to be campy. 60s Batman was campy, but looking back on Batman and Robin, I can't help but wonder as well.

It was meant from conception to be as campy as possible, and I can't hold that against it. But it was such a waste of potential. Mr. Freeze couldn't have been a more tailor-made match for a villain for Arnold to play well, and it was a train wreck because the franchise got off the turnpike 2 films previous. Bane was a joke as well, hell Jeep's heart exploded after the movie was finished. I won't even comment on Ivy. Each villain in a hero's menagerie brings different qualities to a story, and cramming as many into a bill as screen time allows only cheapens the experience.

Conan got my vote.

I think this role fit him best. I don't think anyone else could have done a better job at that time.
