7.5 million units is a lot.

The series is already dead to me. They can take their uninspired sequals elsewhere.

Agreed, from here on out I'm not even concerned with anything else besides Rock Band. GH III was done too poorly for my taste, it was a good game, but nothing special, I'm tired of Guitar Hero, it's getting old.

After Rock Band have any of you gone and popped back in a GH disc? I did GHII last night cause I was craving to play "Dead!" and it looks so... sterile compared to Rock Band... wierd.

I tried GHII with some friends the other night and it just looked so stiff and bland.

In what way is single player Rock Band different than Guitar Hero that would make you say that?
Without multiple people in the same room playing Rock Band with you, it's just Guitar Hero with drums and customizable characters. The game play is pretty much the same.

Comparing RB and GH3 is like comparing a fine Steakhouse dinner to a McDonald's hamburger. ;)

I think we've all learned our lesson from buying GH-80's. It will be another money hungry attempt to cash in on the GH craze while it is still hot.
I wouldn't expect the expansions to have any of the following:
A low price tag
More than 50 songs
New features
Graphical improvements
But they will most likely will have:
More in-game advertisements
More unnecessarily finger twisting note charts

I feel the same way, not in a "flame" kinda way, (I have a PS3), the word "irrelevant" comes to mind also, I do like the boss battles though, and the battle mode, I can IMAGINE (since I don't have another guitar that will work) that battle could be fun with a friend in the same room....

While I don't like the money grubbing 80s edition, I think the GH series definitely has its own merit.
People try to compare the two, but really its apples to oranges. I have both, play both, love both. My mood dictates which I prefer. If I want to be technically challenged and listen to some kick ass songs, I got with the GH series. If I want to just have a jamming good time with a bunch of folks (still good music of course) I come over to RB.
As a somewhat okay guitar player in both games, RB just doesn't provide a real challenge in that area, and GH definitely shines there.

Basically sums it up for me aswell.
Granted I found both games to be easy on guitar, I at least had to pay attention on more then one song in GH.
I failed one song in rockband(GG&hT), and that is just becuase I didn't know what to expect for the solo. I beat it my second time through though. That is kind of lame imo, I want to be challenged at least a little bit.

I get it, I love Rock Band also but hyperbole aside, the question was in what way is the gameplay for singleplayer different? You play streaming notes on a screen, you win $ playing to buy guitars, you unlock new "places" to play and new songs. It seems like in RB you get to buy clothes too, but that's about it. Multiplayer = Different story and the MAIN point of RB I get that, but I'm talking single here.
I think there's room for both (if they could use the same controllers it would be better). I also don't mind that there are 2 games out there competing, it makes them try harder. Madden got much better this year, and a lot of people think it's because All-Pro was knockin on the door forcing EA to get innovating.
Plus GH3 has Dragonforce and that song is SO fun to play:D.
EDIT: I'm not trying to be hard headed here, maybe there's something I'm missing?

Unless this is like the stupid 80s edition I'll end up buying it because I'm addicted to guitar hero

Can someone copy and paste the article here for the less fortunate of us who are stuck somewhere they can't access the page?

RockBand may not be as challanging but it is stricter on timing, it has realistic note charting that "feels" like playing guitar and its more comfortable to play(as in you can play it for five minute with your fingers hurting). IMO those features are more important.
Guitar hero was great but after the last one I don't have much hope for the franchise anymore. Its only a matter of time before they work in the DDR dance pads and boss fights against Bam Mergera. GH3 did have a great setlist though.

LOL of course a moderator here would say that ;)
I kinda feel the same way, but it has nothing to do with the actual game, but the support via downloadable tracks is what has made me choose Rock Band.
More tracks on the first day than GH has put out since GH2 was released on the 360. Even though I don't like all the songs, nor did I buy them all, I still like the obvious support, as when I bought GH2, with their promises of lots of downloads, once they didn't deliver on that promise, GH2 sat in the closet.

I posted the below in a response to a similar thread in the Les Paul Controllers forum over on the GH site:
I have both RB and GH3. After playing a lot of both, and GHII before them, GH3 just feels kinda rushed to me. I like the Les Paul better than the Strat, but I don't like the direction in which Neversoft has taken the franchise. On top of the stuttering issues with starpower, the buggy, laggy online modes, and the over-the-top commercializing of the game with non-music-related ads, GH3 just feels cheap to me in comparison to Rock Band. The setlist isn't as much fun for me to play as a whole, and every time I fire up GH3 I become more aware of the little corners Neversoft cut in making the game: the static look of the notes, the intermittent sound issues, etc.
I liked playing GH3 alright before Rock Band came out. It's hard for me to find good reasons to take Rock Band out of my 360 these days, though, and few of those reasons involve GH3.
Lastly, and maybe most importantly, whatever the launch features of either game, I trust Harmonix to release DLC that I will want to purchase and play. I trust Harmonix to treat their IP with TLC. I don't trust Neversoft to do either for the Guitar Hero franchise.

I agree. "The grass is much greener on the Harmonix-side of the fence", to butcher an old adage.

The grass is greener and the tides are higher?
Oh, and for the record, I <3 Rock the 80s. Say what you want, I got it for like, $30 and played it often prior to RB.

I have been to the mountain...... and Guitar Hero fell off! RB will get my dough as long as they continue to release quality DLC and needed updates/patches. (Other threads for that.)
GH? Nah.... I'm done with that. Might have to grab another Les Paul standalone at some point....
