MTV's senior vice president of home entertainment, has told the Rocky Mountain News that MTV and Harmonix plan to debut new music exclusively on the Rock Band video game — and one of the first could be a doozy. "There are a couple of things we've committed to, one of them with METALLICA for example," DeGooyer said. "They've reserved the right to give us their first single from their new album for the game."
It sounds good, but what about the good Metallica albums? Like And Justice For All, Ride the Lightning, Kill 'em all and Puppets? Hoping the DLC's not all from the new album and stuff like load and re-load.
Btw, before you say they have dlc, I didn't like it. Would've much prefered, Puppets, Fade to black and orion.
Anyway, as long as it's not like st anger it could be good.

First off.. Nice name lol :)
Second.. there is gonna be a ton of DLC for metallica.
Third.. you said what about And Justice for All and Ride the Lightening.. 2 of those songs were DLC. I assume you meant the albums then.

Um, then you are not a good fan. Those of 3 of their best, yet unkown tunes. I am not terribly hopeful for the new album though. I mean, you've got St. Anger, Garage Inc., and Re-Load which all sucked as part of a steady downward decline.

Dude! it's been only a week since the launch!! be patient. I think the currently available Metallica song pack is a damn good start.

Sorry, I meant the songs from the dlc (the 3 pack) are good, but it wouldn't have been my choice.
Didn't like the choice is what I meant but still good songs.

Sheeeeeeeeit Re-Load? How freaking bad ass would it be to be able to sing/play Fuel!
Damn I love that song! Don't know about the rest of the CD though...

Dunno on the new Metallica. St. Anger was just HORRIDLY produced. Re-Load was a "b-sides" album, and Garage Inc was really half a re-release of a popular album with some extras (and had a couple of damn good songs on the first disc, too).
I'd love to see all of the "Metallica" album as a DLC. Honestly it has clean consistant grooves that would be awesome for a rhythm game. Enter Sandman is a great example. I'd love to see "Master of Puppets" come out as a complete DLC album, but the rifts are awefully rough on it, just from listening. I haven't bought the Metallica 3-pack yet, mostly because I don't want my fingers to bleed while trying to keep up with Blackened and ... And Justice. Even they admit the songs from that album are a marathon on rifts and a challenge to not miss notes.

Why all the hate for load and reload? Fuel, Unforgiven 2, Until it Sleeps, Memory Remains. Even st. anger has a couple jems. All Within My Hands, Unnamed Feeling.

"Fuel" is one of two "new" songs I'd actually enjoy playing 100%... The other being "No Leaf Clover". This one song would blow me away. :D

Next Metallica pack need Master of Puppest, Battery, and Search and Destroy.
Personally, I don't want albums, I want more of these packs. For me, they have never had an album on which every song is really good.

It's "Seek and Destroy" my friend.
"Search and Destroy" is a song by The Stooges. Just thought I clarify.:)

I always fudge that up. Ugh, I was so pissed when my buddy got GH2 and I thought Metallica was on it. I was like, "Oh, man, we have to play Search and Destroy" and he was like "Really? That song?" I played it and then went in a corner and cried as my dream had been crushed.

a quick search on youtube reveals the "new song" which may or may not actually be the true new song. its rick rubin though and quite frankly rubin has revitalized every career of every album he's touched.

I don't know what you guys have heard, but word is that the new Metallica album is a return to form for them. And I'm not using "form" as in The Black Album, I'm using "form" as in Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and ...And Justice for All. Some have said it's the missing link between ...AJfA and The Black Album. Some songs are likely to be 9-10 minutes in length, Lars goes nuts on the drums, and Kirk's got some solos again. Oh, and they're recording in the same key they used for their first five albums. I don't really know what that means per se, but just knowing that they're going for the same sound from their early years is good enough for me.

So, yeah, that's pretty *****in' that they're giving RB first crack at their new single. Like it or not, Metallica is still a force in the music industry, and this will do nothing other than increase interest in Rock Band. Oh, and if this leads to a Master of Puppets album DLC, then paint me thrilled. I don't care if it's an instrumental, all I want to do in this life is play Orion on Rock Band before I die. That and What's the Frequency Kenneth. But that's another thread altogether.

Here's to hoping we don't have any new Metallica for a while.
Seriously, they already have four songs you can play in the game, while there are a lot of great bands--metal and otherwise--that have nothing. Instead of clamoring for more of the same, hope for spreading the love. :)

Rick Rubin has my vote, even if only for one of the greatest albums released in this decade (if not ever), American IV: The Man Comes Around.

I wonder if the "whole new realm" is going to be RB album releases on the actual albums release date. This was talked about by Rigopoulos in that interview, it's obvious Metallica has jumped on board whole-heartedly here... that would be an insane way to release an album and would be HUGE.
I do agree that whole album releases are a bit of a mixed bag, though frankly, for the bands perspectice, I wouldn't want to do it any other way. Besides we're hoping/expecting the album downloads to be quite reasonably priced in relation to single and three-pack download prices. So you're probably getting a number of songs for "free" anyhow.

If I'm not mistaken, I thought St. Anger was supposed to be a "return to form", since Metallica produced it themselves. Hopefully though that Rubin guy will help them do better... But that "new song" ... Ugh, it's terrible. I don't know if it just sounds bad because it's live or what. But I remember not being that impressed with the tune at all.
As for the albums before St. Anger, many of the songs on Load rocked, Fuel was the only good song on Re-Load, and Garage Inc. was great. Nearly every song on there was awesome. I really hope for some reason they release that Merciful Fate medley for DLC, also Am I Evil? and Wiskey In The Jar. Master Of Puppets would be my pick for full album DLC.

For me the first album they released that actually had a "bad" song on it was St. Anger.
Kill em all - every song rocks
Ride the lightning - every song rocks
Master of puppets - every song.. (see the pattern here?)
and justice for all - same as above
Black album/ Metallica - still rocking
Load & Reload - still loving it
i even liked both garage albums. now
