Favorite Video Game Genre: Take 2

Anyways, what I wanted to post in my original thread went as follows:

What's your favorite video game genre? I tried my best to include the top 10 most common genres, so forgive me if I forgot something.

My personal favorite is RPG, ever since FFVII the genre has been the one I have the most fun with. I like my long 60 hour melodrama filled games :p

Rhythm, FPS and RPG

I don't really know what you would call it, but the Tom Clancy franchise always brings me back for more. I enjoy the Stealth Action Splinter Cell games, the squad tactical Ghost Recon, the counter terror FPS Rainbow Six, RTS epic EndWar, and I'm really looking forward to the air-combat HAWX (not just for the title).

We need a NetForce game next, though I have no idea what genre that would be done as.

I went with Action/Adventure for the poll, since I think that's what the Splinter Cell games would qualify as, which are easily my favorites.

I voted rhythm, but I play RPGs about as much, and genuinely enjoy racers. I'm playing Fallout 3 and RB2 about equally at the moment, but when GT5 and Forza 3 hit, they'll be my focus for a LONG time (with RB2 mixed in when the friends/family come over).

Third person "action/adventure" games... God Of War, Gears Of War...stuff like that.

A simulation category might be a good idea, to include Racing, Flying, and Sims.

Awesome to see that you referenced Indigo Prophecy. That game never got the credit it deserved, it was amazing.

Anyway, still Rhythm for me I play 4 (disc) 360 games regularly: Rock Band 2, GHWT, Scene-It, and Fallout 3. My favorite genre as far as the arcade games I play though is definitely puzzle games (I own Braid, Switchball, Marble Blast Ultra, Portal, and the odd one out Castle Crashers....I feel like I have one more that I'm forgetting)

The only games I ever find time to play besides Rock Band and Little Big Planet is Pick Up The Kids, Change The Diapers and Paint The Bedroom. All first-person.

Each of these titles I have bought since 1999 (sans the Show since that only started in 06, but bought a baseball game every year prior)

RPGs, unquestioningly. For me, every other game genre pales in comparison to the experience I get when I play a role-playing game with a well-developed story.

And regular 'adventure' seems to be missing from the list... Tim Schafer made that genre my favorite.

i like pretty much all game genres. Well maybe the puzzle genre isn't all that engaging, but everything else i play. Right now my big 4 games are Rock Band 2, Gears of War 1, Left 4 Dead and Lost Odyssey.

Yes I was going to add an "other" option but I've found there's a lot of people that pick other and then don't explain their choice. I'd rather get a better idea of what people like to play from 10 distinct genres and sacrifice a couple genres then have 50 votes for other and have no idea what other is exactly.

I was tempted to include a category called Will Wright's Craziness for stuff like the Sims and Spore but I decided against it. :p

Used to be a racer.

We had real racing cockpits with real car seats, steering columns, and wedges to mount the pedals.
Link racing was cool, but then came Rockband.

Now we have converted one of these into our drum riser, and have full size guitar controllers, and play Rock band exclusively.

Probably still partial to RPGs more than any, although I also have a lot of action/adventure and fighting games.

I voted RPG as it's the type of game that I spend the most amount of time with. 60+ hours on ff games, and god only knows how many hours I've spent in front of the PC for diablo.I also enjoy FPS, RB2 and am starting to get into the survival horror based games.

But even doing that you can't guarantee that they will. :p I'll deal with the complaints over no sports or sim games. Although if a mod wanted to they could modify my poll and throw sports up there with racing and replace puzzle with Sims.
