View Full Version : A Policy of Silence is the wrong choice. (please read)

I purchased this game for several key reasons, and after playing this long and reading the boards, I have several complaints:

1. I was led to believe by Harmonix devs through interviews and videos about the product that it would allow for multiple people to experience the full game online (band world tour online).

2. I was led to believe that other controllers would work with it (I have a ps3.)

3. Total and complete lack of communication of clear and discernable answers to the people who have been vocal about their feelings on these issues.

4. Parts failures.

I honestly believe #4 is already being addressed, so I will refrain from discussing that topic.

You know, quite honestly, if they fixed #3; and just took some responsibility/accountability one way or the other, I'd probably be less upset about #1 and #2.

It's the PR campaign of not commenting on these things that is really beginning to annoy, and I would like to make the case that it is the wrong choice for dealing with their current and future customers/consumers.

Not only did I spend a significant amount of money on this game, I convinced many of my friends to do the same based on all the interviews and expositions about the game before its launch.

I am tired of Company X (In this case MTV, EA and Harmonix ) saying : Look what this does! and then not live up to the promises they made.

A lot of people on these boards say 'be patient.' And I say to you, that you have forgotten how the supply/demand model works. Change is affected due to consumer interest, and it is not affected when there is no interest. If there is no demand for action, none will be taken.

I LOVE the game; at least the parts that were delivered upon. I, like many others who purchased it, live far away from my core group of friends scattered throughout the country, and EXPECT to rock with them as was promised. Yes, I can get a few friends together occasionally for BWT locally; but that's not every other day with the friends that I was supposed to be able to play with online as promised.

I also think that PS3 users should have SOME kind of update as to other guitar controller support (or not, all most of us want is a clear answer, please).

If you don't agree with my viewpoints, you are free to have your own opinions, I would simply ask that you do not share them here. I do not want to turn this into a 'Harmonix is a great company you should feel ashamed for posting this' thread. My point in starting this thread is NOT to flame Harmonix. It is simply to say "I am here, I am unsatisfied, please address the three points I have listed." If you are unsatisfied, please feel free to let Harmonix know this in a response. Please keep your comments clean, non-threatening and uncombative.

If this derails, *I* will request a mod to lock it. What I want to do with this thread is simply allow Harmonix representatives see that a policy of silence is NOT the approach they should take with their customers/consumers.

If you agree, please state why.

Thank you for reading.

While it is still a very vague "We're looking into it" they have posted an announcement in the Announcements forum. Seems the silence is broken a bit.

I do understand your concerns, and as always am on here making note of what is being said and passing it along. I really am trying to represent the community here and get you answers and responses. That said, this isn't a policy of silence. As I have stated before we are not in the habit of saying things before we have solid info other than to say we are looking into all these issues. That's true. That's what we are doing. And stating anything beyond that would be somewhat irresponsible on our part and we don't want to jump the gun. I appreciate everyone's patience and believe me when I say we are working our butts off to get you good, reliable information as soon as we possibly can. Thanks again.

**Edit**

Sean, this wasn't directed solely at you, I hope you do understand that. And even what was announced today pretty much addressed the concerns I had. Thank you for taking the time to respond. That being said, I believe that you guys ARE working hard and taking steps in the right direction; but I don't think I was overstepping by saying some of us felt a little left in the dark ;)

Nonetheless, my post is moot, and I would therefore ask for it to be removed/locked.

Thanks for the update. Would a moderator please lock/delete this thread? Thank you.

It was announced over a month ago on IGN that BWT will eventually receive a patch so that it can be played online.

Excerpt:

IGN: Why isn't there any online play in BWT?

Teasdale: Rock Band features several local and online modes from its deep solo adventure to its expansive full band experience. We want to make sure that the online experience with Band World Tour is perfect and bug-free, and as in-depth and fun as the other modes. In order to do that we'll be bringing online Band World Tour to you at a later date.

I have a question for you. You mention passing things along. Do you know if Alex or the other top dogs at HMX try to read some of the forums themselves?

That's the sort of thing that's going to make some people feel better, and really, it wasn't all that difficult, was it?

Still, great post balth. So many of us felt that way.

They do. Not all day, mind you. But they do.

Still, great post balth. So many of us felt that way.

But they've been saying that, in various incarnations, since the game's release. I've been reading these boards since the beginning, and HMX doesn't speak until there's something to say, and when they do speak, you know it's going to be worthwhile.

You guys have got to remember that this game is their baby. Anybody who saw any employee talk about this game before release will know that the entire company is passionate about their work. There's no way they're just gonna let it go by the wayside and ignore it. They want everything to be fixed as much as you do, if not moreso.

That never says they will patch it into RB. Later date could easily be a sequel as would seem the case from this (http://gamerfront.net/2007/11/19/exclusive-interview-answers-your-burning-rock-band-questions/) interview from the 19th of this month.

Excerpt: GF: Is there any plan to take Band World Tour online in the future?
HMX: We are really pumped about Band World Tour and we would have liked to see online play at launch. However, BWT is such a huge feature that we wanted to make sure that we did it right, which did mean sacrificing online play at launch. We wanted to make sure we got Rock Band finished as a complete game and programming BTW Online is almost like programming an MMO. It’s something we’re definitely psyched about for a future game and we’re as pumped to play this as you are, so stay tuned.

Who knows, maybe they will patch it in, but I wouldn't count on it.
