So as some of you know my 360 is dead so I decided to bring Rockband and my hard drive to my girlfriends house so we could all play on her brother's 360. Worked great but my DLC songs were missing! where are they stored? Will I be able to get them back if I get a new Xbox?

They are probably tied to YOUR gamertag.

This happened to me too over the past week. My buddy downloaded all the songs for use at my RB party, but preferred me to use my 360, so we just plugged in his hard-drive and even made sure that he logged in under his gamertag, yet still no DLC was available. We ended up swapping back to his 360 so we could use the songs, but one thing I was thinking is that it might have to do w/ not have my 360 online at all at the time. I thought I saw someone mention that in order to play your DLC songs on a different 360, you hav to be connected to Xbox Live for some reason, maybe it has to verify that you legally purchased the songs or something...might give that a try.

I think you just have to choose 'download again' and they'll work on a new unit. I hope so at least, mine died the morning Rock Band came out and I bought a new one from Wal-Mart (thanks to their 90 day return policy) while the old one is getting repaired (got the RMA box today).

well its weird because i was signed in on my account, and since i downloaded them I havent been connected to live so i don't think it has to do with internet. it almost seems like some sort of temporary storage with a permission to use them type file

on a seperate note, how does that return deal work? do you just box it up nicely again?

On the XBox that you downloaded the songs on, they will always be available (note that the hard drive doesn't matter; the songs are linked to the serial # of the XBox.)

On any other XBox, you can log in with your gamer tag and download the songs onto the hard drive, but you will need to be connected to Live in order to play them.

Well that's a bummer - I was hoping that just redownloading them onto the harddrive hooked up to a new machine would rewrite the permissions or something. I probably would have held off downloading tracks while waiting for the Xbox to get repaired if I had to be connected to Live to use them. There must be some sort of work around for that...

And yeah, they send you a box through UPS and you pack it up nicely with your RMA # on a piece of paper and ship it back. The guy I talked to said 2-4 weeks for repair, as opposed to the 4-6 I'd heard earlier.

the workaround is you call MS support and they can reimburse you with MSPs and then you make a new gamertag on the new console and rebuy the DLC. Then they will work on the new 360.

well can't you just re-download the songs on the new xbox with your existing gamertag?

Interesting - I'll try some thing out and report back once my Xbox is fixed.
