Yeah I kind of like the new system. You can still miss a couple notes and get a 5 gold*. I got 98% and still got gold stars

But what is it going by......i thought no one knew......is it by points....note streak?

Probably points. I remember reading somewhere if you get like 120% or something with overdrive you get 5 gold stars. Im not sure though.

I'm thinking that if you get more points than you could with no overdrive but you hit every note, you get gold stars. That way, it doesn't have to be perfect, but you can still get the best rating in the game. That's just what I think, or they have a set amount you have to beat each song for them.

My guess would be it's at max points for the song w/ no overdrive.

There was a post about this a few days ago, someone quoting an HMX dev about the system...like how 5star isn't like GH is....the scale of stars goes to 5 but the pointscale goes to a virtual '6.5' stars or something....

I'm guessing once it gets put under the microscope, people are going to find out there's a pretty definitive mathematical formula to earn a gold star. (base score of a song times some multiplier X, for example)

Just based on my own personal experience I think that's the case. I've noticed that on chord heavy songs its much easier to gold star them than songs with more even note distributions. (which would confirm this theory)

According to rockband.scorehero.com it goes by points. They have a thread listing the gold star point threshold for most of the songs.

I have to disagree with one of the statements in that email.. I'm pretty darn sure I have a 5 gold star on hard without FCing it.. I'll need to go back and look, but I didn't start really playing expert in solo mode until today and I got the 5gold a few days ago..

Yea I gold starred two songs today, the first bonus song, I forget what it is called as well as Are You Gonna Be My Girl, both on guitar, its pretty sweet, I'm glad it doesn't have anything to do with 100% the song.

I got Bass gold on Should I Stay or Should I Go Now when I was trying for Groove technician achievement and I got gold stars on the mother hips song on guitar just screwing around.
