View Full Version : Guitar not holding notes? Help?

I picked up my Guitar today and was playing The Epic song. I started to hit the notes correctly and it did, but when I got to the ones where you hold down the Green,Red and yellow buttons after you strum it would hold for about a sec then it would kill the note. It would hit some of then and hold the note. It would only do it on certain notes, not all of them, and it was on all the Green, red and yellow notes. I don't think it is broken becuase it can hit the regular notes just fine, it is where you hold down the note it quits mid stream. Has anyone had this problem? Could it be the batteries? They have only been in the Guitar for a few day's, but if they were dead they it would not play at all. Help anyone suggestions? I don't want to have to send it back, I hope it is a simple fix.

I have the PS3 version

I'm sorry to inform you that that's one of the symptoms of the dreaded double-strum that eventually leads to the strum bar not working at all: your strum starts the sustained note, but the switch triggering twice internally reads as another strum and kills your sustain.

One way to check if it's double-strum is to go to the tutorial section and when it has you "tune up" in the basic tutorial, see if you get two notes when you strum once.

I had a similar problem shortly before the downstrum stopped working completely. However, it's interesting that it only happens on certain pads and not others for you. Are you sure your fingers are not accidentally reapplying pressure or releasing pressure? Both will abrupt the hold. I sometimes do that in difficult sections.

I would send it back if I were you, assuming the problem lies in the hardware. You can still play with it while waiting for the replacement if you do express.

You were right that is what is wrong. Do I have to send it back then or is there a patch to fix this?

Is the process of sending it back farily easy, and is the customer service fairly good? Do I need the orginal box?

The on-line system is pretty good: http://support.ea.com/rockband

If you have a credit card and can afford to leave a $100 hold on there, you can have them ship the replacement directly rather than do the "get an empty box, send your guitar back, then get the replacement" plan. They seem to be on the ball for shipping if you request now, however most of us who requested replacements on launch day are still waiting for ours to ship.

Thanks for your help. I hate sending stuff back for being broken. I can still use my guitar I just have to strum up.

I did that too, but eventually it just crapped out all together. Between a few friends we bought 2 PS3 versions to play dual guitar and drums locally, and one had a huge double strum problem that was remedied by using the very sides of the strum bar or strumming up. We dubbed it the "bass guitar" since it works fine that way.

Well now its crapped and is very hard to play on hard and not failing out. So I would just send for another one as I don't recommend you settle for "up strumming is good enough for now".

Yea, I am going to send in or a new one ASAP, but I can still use the old one until the new one comes in even though it is busted right? Also do you know if I will still need to keep the orginal box? The funny thing is it is cool to be the first ones to have the game but you also get to work out all the bugs and issues for the companies. We were the Gunie pigs.

I've had the exact same thing happen with the GH3 guitar playing both GH3 and RB so I don't know if it's as simple as blaming the RB guitar....
