Bands that aren't known by billions of people already. I find it funny that people keep asking for well known bands...how about the following that aren't...
Agalloch - Falling Snow

I don't think we need to promote Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against The Machine, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, or any other band that is known by every person on the street. Maybe it's just me...I mean I know why people want to push their favorite band...but still. For every one well known band, you should promote one that isn't...

I agree there should be lesser-known bands.
But, it's a matter of economics. It costs HMX money for the rights to these songs, as well as the programming and polishing.
For each song released, they expect a reasonable profit.
Almost every song on the game (aside from the unlockables) is a pretty much a huge hit. If it's not a hit, then it's by a popular band.
I agree with you (well, with Kyuss and Electric Wizard), but I don't think it would happen.
Honestly, though, I'm really sick of hearing about AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, and Rush. Those bands are all so obvious. I guarantee that HMX has been trying to get those bands for years (and got Rush, unfortunately).

So, songs aren't epic because you haven't heard them? That's ridiculous.

Well, I don't know the specifics, but I would think lesser known bands would be cheaper? Again, I don't know, so it doesn't do me any good to speculate on the financial aspect. But, hopefully their business model allows them to chance a certain percentage of their work on songs that aren't well known. They have done this with the bonus songs, which are from bands that aren't superstar artists, so hopefully they can do it with the DLC. I see your point though, and completely agree with you. They do need to make a profit, but sometimes a business can do something not expecting much of a sale as an experiment. Sometimes it can take off, sometimes it won't.
I am sick of the obvious bands, and that is why I started this thread. I hope to add new bands periodically.

I don't know your definition of epic, but I believe it is different from mine. That aside, just because a band is unknown, it doesn't make them any less capable of delivering amazing music. Led Zeppelin was unknown at one point. Hard to believe, but yes...they were. So, are you saying that they were incapable of being...epic...since they were unknown? Your logic isn't really panning out.
We will just agree to disagree

That's cool...I don't expect people to like them all. I am glad you like Agalloch though, as I only recently discovered them. They are amazing, though, and really blow me away.

Always.

This is the one place where I thought GHIII did things better: the bulk of the bonus songs on RB are from bands with Harmonix members in them, and while I love my dose of Freezepop in every game, there should have been a bit more diversity.
The unlockable songs on GH3 had a lot of bands I've never heard of, mixed with some I have, and featured a whole lot of songs I wasn't as familiar with.
That's where bands like the ones the OP is suggesting belong: in those unlockable sections. That way, they get exposure by being in the game but don't get overlooked by everyone because people don't want to pay for DLC they've never heard of.
Another option would be to offer songs by the more obscure bands as bonus DLC: buy the QotSA pack and get your choice of another song by one of three artists for free...or even just roll a song or two from a more obscure artist in with a pack from a band in the same genre.

well from a marketing stand point, are people going to buy a game if you tell them they have Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, or Pyramaze and Electric Wizard?
for DLC - i think it would be GREAT to see some lesser known bands.. I mean it would be a good way to get new bands out there and stuff, but then again would you rather satisfy the smaller population of fans of underground bands, or the mass population of people who know the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Led Zeppelin caliber bands?
i'd like to see more of both to be honest! i wanna see lesser known bands because i love opening up my ears to new music, but i also wanna see known songs because i want to be able to play songs with my friends that we already know and love

that is a really really good idea actually!
buy a pack from artists you know, and get those hidden gems that (like you said) GHIII bonus songs had.. there were some international artists in there that i'd love to hear more from, just from the bonus songs they had in GH3

Yeeeah I'de so ignore any kind of pack from a group of nobodies that you have listed on the first page. I'm sure the music would be good and/or different. But I'f im spending my money to support things in game, it's going to be of the major bands songs' that I woudl love to play to recreate for me. Only when all of those needs would (if ever) be met would I then even think about giving a group that I never heard of before a real chance.
