So I noticed alot of people consider this one of the best games out, or at least the most played. This is a discussion thread for the game, although they have their own forums. Post gamertags if you play on 360 and just want some good people to team with. I think it's kinda messed up that MS is forcing valve to charge for there dlc, but at the same time I love the game enough to not complain about it, just the sooner the better. What do you consider glitching, me personally I don't mind smokers pull/killing, but blocking pathways is rediculous. Had a game earlier today where the enemy team blocked us on every oppurtunity, and they still lost. So far my favorite kill is pulling someone out of the elevator as a smoker, only done it once though. I think all the zombies are well balanced, but it depends on where your at in the stage.

i'm thinking about asking my neighbor to lend me this for 360 while my computer's away for repairs... i became pretty addicted to this right before my PC bit the dust.

we didn't really have to worry about the path-blocking on PC (only a few spots where a tank could knock cars in the way), but melee-exploiting was really obnoxious.

i became known for my excellent smoker skills in my group, so he was definitely my favorite though i was really getting the hang of kicking ass with the hunter too.

shame the ps3 port isn't gonna be released, sony probably wouldn't force valve to charge for additional content. I never understood the melee spamming glitch, if you have a good team there is no need to switch weapons to melee faster. Although I think they should add a melee stamina, even if it's only a 3 second full charge. A good group constantly melee'ing is like a smoker null, no chance of grabbing someone away from the group. Also a good group vs. a tank makes me hate being the tank, I can do some major damage against a decent team, but when people melee rocks and stuff it is a bummer. It also sucks when a team keeps the tank away on the finale, but it takes full cooperation so maybe it should be that way since it's so difficult to get a full team to cooperate. Anyone got the nothing special achievement yet?

I kind of suck at the game. Pretty bad. Then again, I've only been playing for a couple days, interchangeably with Rock Band, haha. Love it, though. I like playing Boomer and just falling on top of groups, getting shot and covering them with my remains.

I like the smoker best. On the 3rd No Mercy level as everyone is leaving the sewers i snagged Zoey off the ladder. Everyone else was up top. She didn't have a chance :D

That's what I expect. That and most of the "megadouches" (believe it or not, that's not filtered), as you call them, are still playing CoD4 and Halo 3.

Excellent anything with a little renrock is better.

Yeah it is crazy. I mean it is a shooter but it doesn't really play like one at all. I have many friends that suck at halo and cod but are actually really good at this.

I like how the game really punishes those that try to be all Rambo and head off alone. Most everyone I've had over to try the game tries to head off solo, like they're going to prove themselves, and immediately get barfed on or strangled.

I'm unbelievably good at Halo because of how unbelievably bad I am at it, haha. I kick ass in capture the flag because I use such stupid tactics that no one expects them, liking running back and forth through the middle of the maps to find the flag.

yes, you can punch the red cars around. you can't move police cars or the white car in BH1.

It really isn't all that bad on Xbox now. Many of the people that got it for christmas have found out that it isn't halo so they stopped playing. Not as many path blockers either though I have started my stance on it. If they try to block me they will get it in every stage.

i know on PC the police car in NM1 was unmovable.

A well placed oxygen tank takes that away and makes all their work done in vain.

no, they patched out the ability for normal special infected to move objects...
only the tank is able to move objects like the forklift, and he doesn't spawn at a point that would allow him to do that unless facing a particularly stupid team.

i started out playing only campaign, but finally got addicted to versus and never turned back. i probably haven't played campaign since the third week the game was out.

i've been reading about people doing 2 and even 1 man runs on the campaign mode, which i may be interested in trying some time.

I play mostly versus. Truth is I don't know a whole lot of people who play Left 4 Dead, so if I start an online campaign, I get mixed in with random people who decide to leave half-way through.

so i just played a really quick run-through with bots on no mercy and played about 10 minutes of versus before my router decided it needed a reset.

NO you just talk. Voice button on the game is to say stuff like ammo here and what not. You can always talk we will just seat up a party and then we can talk until we are parched.

Yeah, with only four people per team max, the bandwidth put aside for the chat channels is hardly noticeable, so there's no reason to make it toggle.

You kinda have to be fast in L4D...Zombies coming from ALL angles. And it really isn't that bad once you start playing.

I played Halo 3 with the default sensitivity (3 I think) and I can do L4D fine. It's not as bad as it looks on the preview vids.

One thing I've learned about playing expert campaign: Don't shoot, ever. Because then there's NO chance of me accidentally shooting my teammates and sending them to the ground. I'm far better off protecting my chance of winning if I just punch my way through the level

I wouldn't even bother shooting. I think its one hit from the tank and your incapacitated.

They usually don't, since they don't want to deal with a possible Smoker attack, to which sometimes I get kicked in the nuts.

also, the exploiting seems to be much worse... glitching open doors, blocking paths, blocking manhole cover...
it shows that these people have played before, yet they totally suck at the game aside from knowing exploits.

I konw of those first two shortcuts at the very first level you (should) ever play (down the apartment building), and beating down that big loading dock door on whatever level, those are the only ones I know

one the first level do you mean breaking the glass on the roof first thing or jumping down to the alley?

i'm pretty sure the alley jump was fixed on the PC version as i've never seen anyone successfully do it.
the other is so insignificant that i don't think anyone cares. :)

as for breaking down the dock door that's grounds for me to leave the game or kick someone. that's not cool at all.

That was really cool...I was going for my 'Stand Tall' achievement, on No Mercy, and a Smoker got me, and it pulled me over the edge up near the top of the building (on scene 4), and I got stuck on the edge (while still wrapped up), and my teammates had to help me up. So there went my achievement! Poo, so much hard work...

So people are still blocking the elevators, but most of the good players are cool enough to not do it. One of the main reasons I'm filling up my friends list as opposed to keeping it to people I know irl like I used to. BTW, did the patch fix the breaking the door and melee'ing the control panel glitches on the no mercy campaign?

the patch fixed the dock door, but i don't know what you're talking about in regards to the control panel.
that's probably something that was fixed in the first patch, along with blocking the elevator.

the PC received another update today fixing the melee exploit and a few minor things.

i'm gonna leave me game on the opening screen. invite CrabbiestTester if you want to do versus mode with a drunkard!

Yep, a few minutes ago my path got blocked just before the sewers. Frustrated me enough to turn off my console.

i played one round, crushed them until they blocked three paths on the roof, and then still crushed them... :)

hey kiggidykev,
i highly recommend playing a little single-player campaign mode before jumping into versus. there's a lot to learn that people kinda expect you to know when you're in versus mode.

it's your game and all, but i wanted to give you a heads up on what's generally considered the best way to prepare for versus. just play through the no mercy and blood harvest campaigns once or twice to get a feel for the maps and get used to the game and then you should be ready to delve into the magic that is versus mode. :)

Im picking up the PC version next week. Ive had the console version since release, but, I want the PC to play with my best friend.

The only time I will exploit (Blocking doors, busting through the metal door in NM.) is if the other team started doing it first. We usually win anyways, but, if they start with the crap, we will win a lot easier.

crowning the witch = perfect shotgun blast to the neck/head region. i've noticed the 360 has a glitch where you can jump on top of the witch while she's still crouched and she can do nothing.
it's pretty cheesy, but not the sort of exploit i personally get upset over.

Yeah it is...I was playing with some decent fellows last night and we were playing "Death Toll" I believe. We got to the 3rd Level/Chapter whatever, and just kept getting reamed by a Tank.

Expert is no joke. One shot from a shotgun to a partner and they're on the ground.

Goodness, that was the BEST kill I have EVER had. I was the tank near the top of the hospital roof, and I punched Louis clear off the building and he FLEW FLEW FLEW. I'm still laughing so hard, it looked just hilarious, by how expressionless his face looked, and how his whole body was just a ragdoll. That was incredible!

I've had a hunter-pounce like that before, only it was in the sewers, where you go up the ladder and try to run into the hospital. I was crouching just outside of it and as soon as the first guy came up I jumped on him and we both fell through the manhole. The guy below him just kept going up. Eventually I killed the guy and climbed back up, the second guy was kinda punching the zombies around him, so I jumped him as well and we fell down the manhole again! It was pretty awesome

yeah I had a blast playin with you guys earlier even if I did end up on the losing team pretty much every game, and did get instakilled off the roof in the finale of that last one I played. So, we decide to get in a closet and camp. After like... 20 minutes of us sitting in the closet, they start begging us to come out and they even moved the thing they blocked.

Funny... they wanted us to sit there and not move... but then they wanted us to go through the level.

lol, that happened to me yesterday but my team and I were impatient so we killed them for a few then took our own lives, so we went after them with a vengeance the next round, we tried to block them but it didn't work but we took them out before they got to the saferoom and still kicked their arses. They left before the finale cause they were getting owned so bad, even by blocking us every chance they got. It's always fun when someone cheats and it still doesn't help them.

Left 4 Dead has been updated with a host of fixes, tweaks and new features, including enhancements to Versus mode for improved competitive play. The full change list is below. For PC users the update will be applied automatically via Steam. Meanwhile, the update will be made available to Xbox 360 players in the coming weeks.

General
- Fixed Survivors being able to climb surfaces marked for versus infected only.
- Fixed a class of SurvivorBot bugs dealing with rescuing downed players.
- Players can no longer grab ladders while flying through the air after a Tank punch.
- Shooting near a car with an alarm that has already fired the alarm will no longer make chirping noises.
- Improved loading time.
- Fixed mini-gun physics exploit.
- Fixed propane tanks (and other physics objects) causing players to fall through elevators.
- Fixed rare achievement bug issues.
- Fixed several map exploits.
- Fixed various match making issues.
- Fixed NAT traversal issues.

Versus Changes
- Added HUD elements to show status of other infected players.
- Changed color of infected player name in chat to red.
- Fixed exploit where players could spawn infected bots
- Fixed instance where a Survivor changing to the infected team would be attacked by infected bots.
- Normalized special infected melee damage.
- Made the following client commands cheat protected: "Kill" and "explode".
- Fixed exploit where infected players could run away and teleport back to gain health.
- Players can only change teams once per map.
- Players can't change teams while other players are still loading.
- Tank spawns at the same % through the map for both teams in versus mode.
- Made the Tank and Witch spawn directly on the escape route.
- Increased chance of getting the Tank or Witch.
- Fixed team swap issue.

Hunter
- Easier to pounce a Survivor who is meleeing.
- Increased Minimum damage a Hunter pounce does.

Smoker
- Fixed Smoker tongue tolerance.
- Smoker now has to be killed or the tongue destroyed for the tongue to break.
- Survivor's cannot bash someone off the tongue until the Survivor being pulled is paralyzed or hanging
- Tongue attacks that fail to paralyze or hang a Survivor will use the shorter ability delay timer.
- Fixed cases where the ability timer was not using the correct time.
- Fixed case where you could point at a Survivor but not register a tongue hit
- Fixed Smoker tongue not targeting and landing properly through PZ ghosts.
- Smoker tongue does damage every second while dragging paralyzed Survivors.

Tank
- Bashable objects now appear with a red glow.
- Tanks hitting a car with an alarm disables the alarm permanently.
- Tank frustration timer is only reset by hitting Survivors with rocks or fists.
- Reduced autoshotgun damage against Tanks.

Witch
- Witch spawns at the same % through the map for both teams.
- Avoids spawning within a certain % of the tank.
- Fixed an exploit where the Witch could be woken up and tricked into attacking Survivors.

yeah, i stuck it out in that game 'til about the end of the 3rd round. we were crushing them and all, but no one in my team had any clue and after being killed from green health by a smoker while my 3 team members stand on a train and watch, i decided to inform them that they were one of the worst and least cooperative teams i've ever played with and left.

i heard one guy say "why are we winning then", but i had unfortunately just hit the "exit" button.
i guess having one member of your team do everything for them probably leads to weak players never getting better. i had to inform one guy that smokers aren't quite meant for close-range combat and then another dude swore up and down that regular shotgun was better than the auto-shotty. :(

yeah, cheaters are pretty bad, that's why I'm filling up my friendslist on this game, if you find a few good players it's not that hard to find a good game, main thing is making sure everyone has a mic, and boot little kids. I can understand a few people cheating when the exploits were first discovered, but now everyone thinks they know a secret, like that last game we played with me manzeer and watduflux on a team and the kid that blocked the sewers on you guys.
